The next day, I woke up jolting from my sleep as I remembered what happened yesterday. I really hoped it had been a dream however, I knew it wasn't because the yellow rope was still tied around my hand. Luckily, Dominic and his friends had not exposed anything yesterday so people still believed that Dominic had not yet found his mate.
Getting ready for school, I arrived back at the place where I considered to be my hell. A lot of people passed through the gates smiling as they talked to their friends and talked about their vacation. However, I didn't have anyone to talk to. Ever since the sons of the four Alphas targeted me for bullying, I had become an outcast. As I made my way into the hallway, I couldn't bring myself to meet anyone's gaze. School had become a place where I felt constantly on edge, surrounded by people who seemed more powerful and dominant than me.
“ Can you please excuse me?” I asked staring at a group of girls that stood in the hallway.
Seeing all of them turn to look at me, I instantly lowered my eyes not wanting to look for any trouble. This was the way I had survived all these years. I was the beta's daughter yet I felt less than trash.
“ Don't talk to me!” Leah shouted as she pushed me to the ground making me groan in pain.
Signaling by her entourage, Leah positioned herself and her friends strategically around me, creating an impenetrable barrier. As the daughter of the Alpha, residing in the South, Leah exuded an air of entitlement and arrogance that rivaled her twin brother, Leo. Her reputation as one of the most influential and popular girls in school was bolstered by her brother's status. Crossing Leah meant risking the retaliation of the notorious group of bullies she was associated with.
“ Look at you. How dare you touch my skin with those dirty hands of yours? Do you want to get beaten up?” Leah asked arrogantly lifting her hand when suddenly, the most insane thing happened.
“ What are you doing, Leah?” A voice asked gaining my attention.
As I turned around, I was shocked to see Leo clutching his sister's hand, preventing her from slapping me. The onlookers mirrored my astonishment at the scene that had just unfolded. Did Leo notice the rope? Was he aware that he was also one of my mates? It's mind-blowing to realize that I have four mates instead of just one and to make matters worse, they are all people who bullied me. Disregarding Leo's extended hand, I stood up independently, brushing off my trousers.
“ What's going on? Are you helping her? Did you hit your head or something?” Leah asked stunned as she looked at her brother.
“ Do I have to explain myself to you? Are you my parents?” Leo asked glaring at his sister.
Not wanting any part in Leo and Leah's argument, I passed by them rushing to class so I could get to my seat. Just as I was about to sit down, I was stunned again as I stared at my seat. Someone had cleaned and arranged my desk and chair properly. Looking around the room, I checked to see who could have done such a thing. In the past, they would play awful pranks such as hiding my seat or putting glue on it. Seeing Dominic resting with his head on his desk, I shook my head, unable to believe that it could be him.
“ Valerie. Valerie, come over here.” One of my classmates said calling me over just as I was about to take my seat at the cafeteria a few minutes later.
Approaching me with a hushed urgency, the girl murmured in my ear, causing my eyes to widen in surprise as she slipped a folded piece of paper into my hand. As I unfolded it, I couldn't help but notice how the handwriting bore a striking resemblance to Leo's. Why would Leo be reaching out to me? Despite the urge to disregard the note, a sense of unease prevented me from ignoring it.
Heading upstairs, I made my way to the school's rooftop, where Leo had asked to meet. Despite my fear of heights, I pushed open the door and entered, scanning the area for Leo. Suddenly, the door slammed shut and locked behind me, sending a shiver of fear down my spine.
“ What? What's going on? Help me! Help me, please.” I screamed struggling with the door knob.
No matter how much I pulled on it for it to open, the door didn't open no matter what. Sighing in defeat, I reached into my pocket, wanting to call someone to help me, but my phone wasn't in my pocket.
“ Valerie, you came.” A voice said, catching my attention, so I turned, thinking it was Leo.
Startled by the sight of a different boy standing before me, I furrowed my brow and gazed at him intently, wondering what he was doing on the rooftop. Just as I was about to speak, the mysterious boy approached me and suddenly enveloped me in a tight embrace. His unexpected gesture sent a wave of panic through me, and I instinctively pushed him away, trembling with fear and confusion. As I turned to look at the locked door, I came to the chilling realization that the girl who had slipped me the piece of paper had set me up.
“ What are you doing here? Who sent you to do this?” I asked, trembling as I moved back, trying to put some distance between me and the boy.
“ Sent me? And I thought you were the one who asked us to meet here. Didn't you write in your letter that you were in love me?” The boy asked walking forward towards me.
“ Stop. I didn't ask you for come here. Your eyes. What's wrong with them?” I asked feeling unbearably uncomfortable as I saw his eyes change into wolf.
