The lights flipped on. “Wade! Wake up!” His eyes opened to see Casey in the doorway—already dressed. “What time is it?” he asked, his voice still rough with sleep. “Three in the morning. Get up! There’s a problem. We’ve got several hurt cattle.” Wade’s gut flipped. “What do you mean ‘hurt’?” he asked, finally seeing his brother’s distress. He started to pull himself up and realized Lance’s arm was thrown across his chest, his body snug against Wade’s side. His eyes were fluttering open. “I’ll explain in the barn. Hurry,” Casey ordered. “Bring Lance, too.” Lance propped his head on his hand, bracing his elbow on the bed.
