Chapter Four In which the game starts. - “You must be made to test me.” Kye had been sitting in the shed for what seemed like hours, waiting for a specific woman to waltz out of the Engineering building, and to finally jump into the role in being his girlfriend. Kya had everything laid out—even before she had agreed to the whole thing. While it was a fool proof plan, it did put him in an uncomfortable space. This was the first time that Kye Cohen was allowing another person to take control over him. Of course, this wouldn’t happen in real life—only in the eyes of people he wanted to deceive. “Five minutes,” he muttered, checking his phone. Page still wasn’t responding to his messages. If he still doesn’t hold the key to the corvette, he would gave guessed that Page bailed on him. The car is sitting in the loft’s parking garage, terrorizing the woman as much as he wanted. His feet was now creating a pattern, tapping every few seconds when anxiety would hit him. As much as he was grateful that his initial plan had worked, it irritated him to get as little contact as he could to his supposed partner. As my minutes grew, so does his patience. Kye was seconds away from sending another message, when the bubble icon appeared. She’s finally replying back. It took a second, but soon enough, her reply reads: I’m running away from you. A soft grin escaped his lips, unaware just how much he was liking the chase. Kye could imagine her so vividly. He could see how her lips were pulled into that tight smile, annoyed with the whole thing thrusted into her life. With that in mind, his annoyance quickly washed away from his mind. Having her irritated is one of the things he genuinely enjoyed the most. He prompted himself to sit comfortably on the beach, typing the words slowly. And the corvette? Will I finally have the honor of changing it back? Her reply came immediately; not even one second had passed before she had basically cursed me. Page is easily triggered by things that revolve around the car, so Kye had to make sure that it was taken care of. As much as he had put everything he can to get the woman involved, he wanted to give her what she wanted as soon as everything was done and over. The car was quite old. Everyone who had offered to buy the thing were all car enthusiast, so it did made him wonder why the woman seemed desperate to have it. Wanting to lighten up the mood, Kye replied. Hit a nerve there, sweetheart? You’re an ass, she replied back. Kye was fighting back the chuckle that wanted to escape from him. It was the little things, like how curse words seem a bit off from her lips themselves—that makes me hold onto the account that she's forcing this strong persona on the people around her. By the way, I have some practice grounds for you, Kye slowly set the grounds, carefully letting her aware where this conversation was going. A few seconds after that, he sent another message. We need to meet some friends and have you practice the role of being my girlfriend. When Page insisted that Kye is the one that needed practice, he was confused. He quickly asked what he needed to fix, slightly worried that he was doing wrong. The message only settled into delivered, meaning that she was preoccupied with something. It took her a couple of minutes to finally have the bubble symbol appear on his phone. His worried expression grew light with the consecutive messages that she had sent him. Not to be an asshole. Every. Single. Second. It reads. Kye did not bother to cover his amusement. Intsead of keeping it in, he indulge himself to be more open. He wanted people to catch him, to see him starstucked and head over heels with a woman that he was being vulnerable with his expressions. Page Asvette will be the reason why Kye Cohen would always be caught smiling. She will be a positive figure in his image. She will have the profile of someone who changed him into a better man, the one who always has the power to bend him into her own will. Having that persona will have everyone fooled. And that is what he needed. “K!” Kye did not hide the frown that etched on his face upon seeing a familiar woman running to where he was. She was holding a familiar lunch box, a smile seemed constant in her face. He had always saw her inability to fold to pressure as a good thing—but really was a pity that she was showering the wrong tree. “Why are you outside our building? Are you waiting for me?” Now, why the f**k would he do that? He wasn’t even aware that Xbie is also taking an Engineering course. A frown settled on his lips, “No, I—” “Thank you for waiting for me! I was about to visit you too.” Xbie moved her bag to the side. “Since I know that you could not cook for yourself, I made you one!” Page informed him that she would be having her class soon, so it puts him in a terrible situation. His eyes moved to his phone, constantly checking if she had pressed any updates. Upon seeing nothing, he grew even more frantic. “K?” He simply hummed, eyes still glued to the phone. Just when he was losing hope, his phone beeped. What if you talk to her? The message reads, followed by another jab. Show just how much of an ass you could be. Maybe then, she’ll f**k right off. Not taking offense to her words, Kye simply replied with a grin expressed on his lips. I am getting quite suspicious at the frequent usage of the word “ass”, sweetheart. Kye had long forgotten that Xbie was with him. He quickly fixed his expression, as if he was burned. Even if he did plan on having people see how lost he would be when Page was with him, it always fails to remind him just how involved he was even if he wasn’t putting up any effort. That is what made it real for Xbie, for she could see the genuine reactions that she had never seen before. “K?” His eyes shifted back to the one who called him, finally realizing what is happening. Xbie still has the same smile, but he could read through her eyes. It was always easy to read people, as he was used to seeing the pain in them. It honestly did not take long for Xbie to realize who he was talking to. “Xbie, I am here for my girlfriend. It did not even cross my mind that you’re attending the same course as her.” Kye informed him, softly locking his phone. Wanting to stop her as easy as he could, he added. “I don’t like you in that way, and never would I see you as a woman. You’re just my friend. My girlfriend—” A scoff escaped her lips from the mention of Page. “You mean that self-centered b***h?” Her words had Kye standing up, not liking how the tone and name she poured into Page. Despite the threats that he had made on the corvette, Page was doing him a favor. Not one of his plans would work if she didn’t agree on becoming his girlfriend. He might be an asshole, but Kye would never let people he was indebted to be harshly spoken to. He would not let anyone trample all over her name because of him. To have her receive calls that aren’t hers would not sit tight with him. “Try to repeat that again, Xbie. I will—” “Kye?” With her soft voice alone, Kye already pivoted my heels to where her voice was headed. Page had sprinted outside the building the second they were made aware that the professor wouldn’t make it today. He looks royally pissed, expression dim and clearly bothered. Her eyes followed the woman who was sitting on the beach. She knew who she was looking at. Kye had already informed her in the messages that the woman that they needed to fool the most would be the person he was with now. “Actually, it’s K.” Xbie retorted back, crossing her arms. “Actually.” Kye snapped, looking back at her with a fierce expression. “she could call me anything she wants.” “Even an asshole.” A soft chuckle escaped his lips upon Page’s words, making her grin in his direction. Kye easily spots the shred of worry from Page. She always does her best to strike a joke when she wanted to lighten the mood. It was to be expected that she seemed confused with what Kye was displaying. All through their interactions, he had always been patient with her. He had never lost his temper, let alone showed her his true colors. He does try his best when he is with her, as she does not need to be involved in that version of him. Page Asvette should only be exposed to Kye Cohen—and not K Cohen.
