Trey almost barged inside the inn’s owner’s room naked if Ryan had not stopped him.
“What has gotten into you?” asked Ryan. Trey must have looked so agitated. It was unusual for Trey. He was a werewolf, yes. But he was always a cold and calculating werewolf. Not the kind of werewolf that would chase after a girl naked. “Who is that girl?”
Trey put on his tunic fast and he zipped his pants while he strode down the hallway. He used his sense of smell to locate the inn’s owner’s room. It was the only room on the bottom floor. Trey banged on the door multiple times.
No answer.
He banged it again. Harder this time.
“Piss off!!” the owner shouted in annoyance.
That was not the answer Trey was looking for. Still, in his agitated mind, he did something that made his Beta and Omega dropped their jaws. He kicked the door until it was detached from the door hinges. The wood practically flew to the other side of the room.
“Who in the fuc.king right–“ the owner stopped his words as he looked at Trey. The bald man was naked, with a girl laying on top of him. As soon as the girl saw Trey, she went rigid. Ryan coc.ked his head as a sign that she should leave. She obliged. The innkeeper, however, was not happy with the turn of the event.
In the dark-lit room, Trey’s usual grey eyes had shone like silver. Just like the ray of moonlight on a dark night.
“Answer me,” he commanded, “Who is the girl living in the first room on the first floor?”
As if hypnotized, the man’s mouth moved on its own. “There is no lass in my inn.”
“What do you mean by that?” Trey asked again.
“The room’s empty. I rent it to no lass.”
“No no no,” Trey insisted. “There was a girl. A red hair with emerald eyes. Ve– very beautiful. A beauty like that must have been the talk of the town.”
When the man only looked at Trey with confusion, Trey demanded with his power again, “Give me a name! Anyone!”
“Uhh … The Rouge Assassin!” the man shouted. “W– who ye’ describin’ fits with The Rouge Assassin.”
So, she really is an assassin, Trey mused to himself. Was she really sent by my father?
“Oh God!” the man just realized something, “Did someone die again in my inn?”
“Again?” Trey asked, “You said this inn is the most secure in the city.”
“Yes, yes, of course,” the man answered, “In the City of Corpses, having only four deaths this year is a feat on its own!”
Trey widened his eyes. He was shocked to hear that. How vile this city truly is for the inn owner to feel that it is a success having only four deaths in a year? He had heard tales of this treacherous city, but seeing and experiencing it for real was a different thing. It baffled him to see how, instead of mortified, the inn’s owner made an annoyed face.
The man did not care whether someone was dead or not. He only cared about his inn’s reputation as the safest inn in the city.
“No,” Trey said, “No deads.”
The bald man let out a relieved sigh. Then he c****d his head to the side as if he was thinking.
“Strange…,” the inn’s owner trailed his sentence. He was unsure whether to continue his words or not.
Again, Trey decided that for him. “Continue your words.”
“The Rouge Assassin ne– never failed a mission on her before. She always kills her targets. But you say there have been no deaths?”
Trey thought for a moment. Then he finally said, “Tell me about this Rouge Assassin. All the rumors and stories you know.”
His eyes glinted yet again in the room as the inn’s owner found himself unable to reject Trey’s demand. The man’s lips seemed to move on his own. No matter how the man tried to stop his mouth.
It was not The Rouge Assassin that the inn’s owner was terrified of. It was the Red Crows Guild. The guild was very sensitive to anyone who blabbered their mouths against them.
“She the Red Crows’ newest b***h. Came here a few moons ago and immediately became their top assassin. She’s even better than The Gigolo. The b***h can even kill Krux, the drug lord, when he was sleepin’ in his heavily guarded fortress. Some b***h she–“
“Stop calling her a b***h,” Trey growled. To which the innkeeper held both of his hands as if he was admitting he wanted no trouble with Trey.
“Aight. Aight,” the man continues. “No one has ever seen her face though. Only glimpses. And all said she got a beauty in her even from a distance. With her red hair and all shit.”
That. Trey could admit that. She was rather pretty. No. Even more than pretty. She was gorgeous. She was …
Honestly, for the love of the Moon Goddess, her beauty was out of this world.
“But they say her beauty is a curse. Cuz’ she only reveals her face to her targets.”
Then the innkeeper scrutinized his eyes to Trey. “Wait. Don’t tell me….”
“You saw her?” the old man asked. “Good lawd! You should tell Merci, the Information Guild. They pay loads for this kind of information. Especially cuz’ the red hair b***h–“
Trey instinctively growled at the bald man. The man flinched when he heard the sound. He raised his palms higher, a sign of submission. “Sorry. Jeez, why so protective of that assassin?”
The question struck Trey deep. Why did he care so much? Why he suddenly felt protective of this one girl who speared out of nowhere? Why was he so desperate to find her?
Stupid. You already know the answer to why.
“How can I find her? Trey asked again.
“Find her?” The innkeeper scoffed. “No one finds her. Unless you’re her target. Then, she will find you.”
“What about the Red Crows guild? Where do I find them?”
“Why do you think the Red Crows is so powerful?” asked the innkeeper. “Is cuz’ no one knows where it actually is. It hosts the most prominent assassins and thieves somewhere deep in this city of the dead.”
“That’s why only the best of the best can become a Red Crows. Cuz’ they need to find the guild first and survive their brutal defenses,” the innkeeper continued, “at least that’s what people say.”
“Trey,” Ryan called suddenly, “That was the assassin in your room, wasn’t she?”
The innkeeper widened his eyes at that remark.
“My good lawd!! Even better!!” he shrieked, “Then you must be the only person to survive The Rouge Assassin–“
“Shut up,” Trey commanded with his power. Instantly, the innkeeper’s mouth closed shut. The man panicked as he realized he could not open his mouth according to his will. His mouth was no longer following him. It was following Trey’s orders. The man started clawing his mouth in order to open it.
“You will not speak of The Rouge Assassin or of me ever again,” Trey said.
When he had finalized his order, his pupils dimmed, and the man was able to open his mouth again. “W– w– what did you do to mee???” the man asked in fear.
But by then, Trey had already walked out of the room. Ryan and Mor followed him from behind.
As soon as they reached Trey’s room, Ryan opened his mouth to speak, but Trey cut him off. “Leave me alone for now,” Trey said. “The mission tomorrow will go as planned.”
“Are you oka–“
Trey knew Mor only had Trey’s interest in asking how he was doing. Yet he cut Mor off with a growl, “Leave me alone!” He looked at Ryan and Mor. No hint of using his power. Just pure dominance from his status as their Alpha.
Ryan and Mor averted their gaze downwards. A telltale of submission. Then they quietly left Trey’s room. Leaving Trey alone in the darkened room where, just an hour ago, he finally met his mate.
Mate.
