CHAPTER 14: THE REWARD

1569 Words
Zane's father suddenly became a hero; reporters kept coming to the front of his hospital room and bothering them. He has been on the news for the whole day. Different TV stations and news outlets have been reaching out to him and his wife just for a few minutes of the interview. He declined all the requests because he did not want to make everything a big deal. "I just saved the boy because I thought of Zane. What if he was the one in danger and no one would help him? I want to be a good example for other people. I didn't want it to be sensationalized. Besides, I don't remember anything aside from following them and beating the driver. The huge guy was so strong, I couldn't beat him up." Bren massaged the sides of his head. "Why did you risk yourself following bad people, you even brought Zane there?!" His mother is angry and frustrated at the same time. "I'm sorry, honey. It was so quick. The poor kid is in danger. Imagine if Zane is in his situation and no one is there to save him?" "I know, and I know that you have a soft heart for people who need help, but next time, please, I am begging you... think twice before following hoodlums and kidnappers." Bren nodded. "It won't happen again." He held his wife's hand. "I promise." Zane is just sitting on the sofa while looking at his parents. Wane is beside him while Anne is in her wheelchair. His parents argue but they don't fight. He smiled while watching them both. His parents' relationship is ideal for him. HE suddenly misses Aera. He shook his head. He is too young to fall for a girl. "It is just an admiration," he said to himself. "Now, what are we going to do with those reporters outside your room?" his mother asked. "Just let them stay outside. They will leave once they are fed up and don't get any interview from me." His father grinned. "The kid's family gave a reward to you for saving his son's life. I do not want to accept it but they insisted." She handed an envelope to his husband. "Here." Bren opened it and checked what was inside the envelope This is a huge amount, honey. We cannot accept it." "I also told them that, but Mrs Stewart said that is nothing compared to his son's life. She said we can use it for Zane's education and Anne's medical needs... I think she has a point there." Bren thought of the things for a few seconds. He glanced at Anne. He still blames himself from being careless during the accident. He nodded. "We will accept this." "Thank you." She hugged her husband. "We need to make the right decision as of this moment. We need all the financial support to get by." "Why am I still here in the hospital anyway? I think I am okay. I don't even have bruises nor wounds." "The doctors just did a thorough check up and tests on you just to make sure you do not have internal injuries. Besides, you were sleeping for twenty four hours." She fixed her husband's blanket. "You can go home tomorrow." "Hopefully there are no reporters around our house." He looked up, praying for the best. "Reporters went to our house earlier. I saw them coming one by one after driving out the car." She sighed, "We won't have a peaceful days until the give up." They heard a knock on the door, and the commotion outside the room stopped. "This is police officer Thomas, may I come in?" "Hold on," Althea said. She walked towards the door and opened it. The reporters tried to push the police officer while going in. He immediately closed the door after coming in. "That was insane!" "I'm sorry about the commotion outside,' Althea apologized, worried about how the police officer looked like. His hair is a mess, his uniform was ripped on the sleeve and two buttons were gone. He is in mid-thirties but still fit and looking young. "I-I think I am still okay." He smiled awkwardly. "Anyway, I came here to ask a few questions on what happened yesterday." "Sure, Sir," Bren agreed. "I will be happy to answer your questions to help you solve the case." "What exactly happened from the start? How did you find those kidnappers?" The police officer prepared his pen and notebook. "My son and the kidnap victim were classmates. I picked up my son because of that k********g incident. I was worried of my son's safety. We were on our way to the Archery Club in that area because my son would want to learn any sport, then he saw the kidnapper walking towards the van, with a sack on his shoulder. Then without thinking, I followed the van and called the police." "You made the right decision there, Mr. Cole." He glanced at Zane. "May I ask your son?" Bren nodded. "Sure. He is a smart kid." The police officer sat down on the couch near Zane. "Hello, kid. How are you?" "I am good," Zane replied. "Is Winsor your friend?" he asked. He shook his head. "No. We are classmates." "What did you see yesterday?" He prepared his notebook again and started writing. "I was on the roof top when I heard a loud shout, it echoed in the entire school. I looked down and saw a huge man carrying a kid on his shoulder. I-I could not recognize the kid until I asked my teacher what happened, then she said Winsor was kidnapped." He could not say he recognized Winsor because his eye vision was clearer than crystal water. The police officer scratched his head using the tip of his pen. "You were at the rooftop when it happened? How did you recognize the man near the park when you saw him?" He glanced at his Dad, thinking of what to say. "I-it's my first time seeing a huge man. I recalled him because of his build." "You are pretty smart at your age, kid. I hope my son is just like you." He looked at Bren. "According to one kid we spoke with yesterday, the man was carrying a phone with the photo of Winsor from a CCTV footage in the zoo. Were you also there during the school trip?" "Yes, I accompanied my son. Maybe you should check with the zoo if they know that man," Bren suggested. "If that man has access to the CCTV, he is probably working there, right?" Police Officer Thomas paused for a few seconds. "You have a point there. You should also join the police force or become a lawyer. You act and think like a police officer." "I took pre-law in college. I did not pursue it to law because of financial matters." "You should try though." Police Officer Thomas stood up. "Anyway, I have to go. I will go to the zoo to check their employee's files. Here's my calling card. Call me if you need anything" He handed the card to Bren. "Thank you for visiting. You can come anytime if you need my cooperation." He waved his hand to the officer who was about to leave the room. *** "What was that Robert thinking about?!" Leito threw the crystal lampshade and it broke into pieces. Desiree covered her ears. "M-My Lord, please, calm down...' "How can I calm down?!" Leito walked back and forth. "That stinky octopus made a mistake in taking the wrong kid. He made the mistake of k********g in the open. Now the chubby kid is saved and alive!" "M-My Lord, our identity is still safe. Glad he parked his van near the parking area, not in front of your mansion." Desiree attempted to touch him but she was scared. "Even though. Just make sure that the octopus won't show his octopus face in front of me!" "My Lord, I will call more people from our secret community in the city to find the king's child." She hugged him from behind. "Also, do you want me to order them to kill the wrong child?" "No! I don't want to worry about that kid. He did not remember anything anyway according to the news." He took a deep breath to calm down. "Just find the king's child." "Yes, My Lord." She kissed him on his nape. "I will take care of it for you." She brushed her hands on his stomach, down to his navel, and his manhood. "Do you like it?" "More, Desiree. You are a temptation." She bit his left ear and blew in it. "Let me cool you down for a bit." "I am not cooling down. I am starting to burn, baby." He turned around and faced her. "You are going to pay for it." He grabbed her hair and pushed her down on her knees. "Suck it." "Yes, My Lord." She unzipped his slacks and pulled out his shaft. She held it and gave him a massage. She looked up with teasing eyes. "You like it?" "Yes, baby." He moaned while Desiree started sucking it. She knows how to make him calm down. Her touch and her body can make anyone lose their sanity, even the son of Apollimi, Leito, the god of death and the necromancer.
