Idalia
“He is my mate,” I said, looking at my brother with fear in my eyes.
“What do you mean, little one?” he asked and I ran to him while he took me in an embrace, trying to console my sobbing self. I couldn’t believe that baby was my mate. We are so many years apart.
“It’s okay, Idalia. I am sure everything will be fine,” Egan said and I nodded, but it was really killing me. One thing I didn’t understand was, if I was a seer, how come I couldn’t see my future with him? It was all dark and uncertain, and there was no way I was able to see what would happen.
“We should go,” Lucian said and I couldn’t agree more. I really wanted to get out of there. As soon as we arrived at the castle, I ran to my room and locked myself as I cried.
I knew having a mate was an honor and when we grew up, it would all be magical, but without being able to know what will happen in the future when it comes to him, made me feel uneasy. Something was telling me it would be a challenge.
Eight years have gone by and I have made a decision. As I turned eighteen, I had decided to leave the castle and try to be far away from everyone, and what better place than the human world.
But I needed someone to help me and I would find him in the cliffs, far away from the kingdom, where I could find the infamous Leon. He helped me escape this place, by opening a portal to the human world. I wasn’t sure if he still had it after all these years, but he did it.
The new world scared me and excited me at the same time, and I was ready for it.
~~~~~~
I woke up, breathing hard and sweating. Every night I would have the same dream. Almost fifteen years ago I had escaped Gargolian and started my new life in the human world.
I was about to turn thirty three, and I lived mostly a solitary life, just a few friends and all I could focus on was working as a barista at a coffee shop. I was lucky to have met a guy who has been my boyfriend for five years now. Thora was dormant inside of me, and I was sure she was dying to come out, but I couldn’t risk it.
I felt guilty, but it was just the way it was supposed to be. Looking at the clock on my nightstand, I noticed it was only two in the morning and I groaned. Same dream at the same time, just great.
Maybe some warm milk would help me rest better, so I decided to head to the kitchen and get myself a glass. As I looked with the corner of my eye, I could see a shadowy figure, but I ignored it and kept doing my thing.
Maybe these dreams are just making me hallucinate. Memories of my life at Gargolian were coming to me and it made me miss my family, especially Lucian. He was the one I missed the most.
“Lucian, I wonder how you’ve been,” I whispered.
I drank my milk and went back to bed, shaking off any feeling I was having and trying to go back to sleep. But, my mind was once again playing tricks on me, thinking about everyone and everything. Suddenly, Blaze comes to mind and I start to tremble.
I stood by the window and looked out the city night lights. A smile escaped my lips as I thought about him. How is he? What does he look like? By this time he would be almost twenty one and ready to find a mate. My heart was going crazy and I hugged myself as I closed my eyes, imagining him.
“No, Idalia. You escaped that world to forget about everything and everyone, especially Blaze. He is way too young for you and deserves a mate his age. Why are you even thinking about him?” I muttered to myself.
“Because you are my mate, Idalia,” I heard a deep voice, but when I looked back, there was no one there. My breathing was labored and I didn’t dare move, but as soon as I let my eyes focus in the dark without having to use my powers, I could see two red eyes looking straight at me from the shadows.
I closed my eyes tightly and tried to pretend this was just my imagination.
“Blaze,” I whispered as the air had left my lungs, while he came out of the shadows.
“Hello, Beautiful,” he said, his voice deep and I could hear a growl coming from the back of his throat. As he approached me, my first instinct was to raise my hand on his chest and stop him.
It was hard and firm, making me pull away quickly. He was tall, very tall. His dark, spiked hair with red and white tips and his red eyes with a streak of white were out of this world. I couldn’t stop looking at his thin and kissable lips and his body was like it was carved by the Gods.
“How did you find me? I told Leon to close the portal and make sure there was no trace of me left behind.”
He chuckled and my heart started pounding inside my chest once again. No, Idalia, you have to keep yourself together. You can’t let him come to your life and ruin everything you have worked so hard for.
“Do you forget I am a dragon?”
“Half dragon,” I corrected, but he growled and his eyes once again glowed brighter.
“I could find you anywhere, Idalia. Don’t you forget that. Your scent was overpowering my senses, and it was not hard to find out where you were.”
I walked out of my bedroom, trying to get away from him and as I was heading to the kitchen, I could hear his heavy footsteps behind me.
“You have to come home.”
“I am not going anywhere. There is a reason why I left in the first place. I saw you in your mother’s arms and when I touched you, I couldn’t believe you were supposed to be in my life as my mate!”
I held onto my granite kitchen counter and tried to take long, deep breaths while trying to stay away from him.
“I am turning twenty one soon, and I have to take over my father with my mate by my side,” he said in a soft voice, making my legs turn jelly at how adorable he sounded.
“Blaze, I am over thirty years old, way older than you. Are you going to understand that?”
“You look a lot younger than that. You are beautiful and I can tell you have what it takes to rule alongside me.”
I was getting frustrated and I turned around to face him, not realizing he was already towering over me and my heart couldn’t take it anymore.
Suddenly I felt Thora purr inside, and it was exactly what I didn’t want to happen. He was here, and he had woken her up.
