Chapter 60 Above & Beyond

[Stella’s POV] When we returned home late that night, I stayed at Armaros’ place. In that way, we wouldn’t risk my parents hearing us and starting to ask all sorts of questions.. When I woke up, I was only wearing Armaros’ shirt, while he had already taken a bath and was fully dressed. “Good morning and Happy Birthday, babygirl!” He spoke as he leaned down and kissed me, which made me smile. “Morning, and thanks,” I replied as I deepened the kiss, pulling him closer, which I could feel was making him hard. “You’re torturing me babygirl,” he spoke in a husky voice, as he trailed a finger down between my legs as he pressed one finger inside of me, making me moan. “Then take off your clothes and come back to bed,” I whispered as I sucked down on his earlobe. “I wish I could, but I promised to help Dagon. But I’ll make it up to you when I get back later, I promise,” he replied, making me pout a little when he retreated his finger, while he proceeded to pull me out of bed. “But I’m almost done making your breakfast, so get up before it gets cold,” he stated with a smile as he grabbed my buttcheek, and gave it a firm squeeze before a rapid smack landed there, making a small scream leave my lips as he just chuckled and left the room. I quickly changed, and the moment I stepped into the kitchen, the smell of freshly baked waffles hit me. “Wow, this is amazing! Is there anything you can’t do?” I asked with a giggle, as he placed a plate in front of me. “Nope, I’m the perfect man!” He smirked as he kissed my cheek, before placing a plate in front of himself. As we were done, Armaros removed the plates, and washed them before placing them back in their place. If something had surprised me, it was how organized he was. Everything was clean and in place, but I loved that about him, ‘cause it was a positive change compared to my messy side. “Thank you so much for breakfast and for yesterday too, it was truly unforgettable,” I spoke, as I looked at the ring once again. “I enjoyed it too, and I’m truly sorry I can’t stay, but I promise to be back before your birthday dinner tonight, then we can tell your parents together, if you’re up for that?” He asked, as he pulled me close to him, while I gave him a smile and nodded. “That’s fine by me, I can keep it to myself a little longer,” I grinned, as I was about to kiss him when a knock landed on the door. “Hi, have you eaten yet?” Jaze asked the moment Armaros opened the door, while he walked over and sat down at the counter. “Well, guess I’ll see you later, it looks like you’re going to be busy too,” Armaros grinned as he kissed me. I gave a sure nod, before I turned to Jaze. “Nice to see you too. Do you want something since you’re asking?” I questioned and rolled my eyes. “Yes, finally! Do you wanna go take another run? It was so much fun yesterday, so today I just felt such an urge to do it again, you know what I mean?” Jaze asked, as I lifted one eyebrow and chuckled at his weird behavior, but I chose to ignore it, maybe he was just starting to feel like himself again. He had always been the ’funny guy’, but after everything that had happened in the past year, he had become a lot more serious and mature. “Sure, that sounds great, I just need to get my things, and then we can go,” I replied, but the moment I did, the front door opened. “You two are not going anywhere!” Vlad told, as he and my dad came through the door, making both me and Jaze frown. “Why not?” I asked, as they both stepped into the kitchen. “Yesterday, Vlad filled me in about some vampire that showed up two days ago asking about you,” my dad explained. “He didn’t cross your path yesterday, did he?” He asked, as both of us shook our heads. “No, we didn’t see or hear anything, right?” I spoke, as I looked at Jaze. “No, but if this is just one vampire, why don’t we just catch him and lock him away? Problem solved!” Jaze asked. “It’s not that easy, he works for someone named Cain, he is probably the oldest vampire to exist and if I know him right he will not let this go, but I've got a plan.” Vlad explained. “Vlad believes if we can catch Dmitrij, that maybe he’ll be able to talk some sense into him.” “Him and I used to be friends back in the day, and I hope it will be possible, or I’ll have to kill him. But solution one would be preferable, ‘cause I have no idea who he could be sending next, so our chances with Dmitrij are much better,” Vlad spoke. “Okay, but what do you need us to do?” I asked. [..] “The compulsion should have worked by now,” Persephone spoke as Dmitrij glanced at her. “How about you go and see if you can find some useful information, and I'll keep an eye to see if they show up. I’ll meet you here afterward, you just call if something goes wrong, okay?” Dmitrij stated. “I got it, don’t worry,” Persephone reassured, as she snuck around the area. She bumped into a few people, but it wasn’t anything a little compulsion couldn’t fix, and she got some valid information too. When she was about to call it a quit, she caught the side of Stella walking alone, so Persephone decided to follow her. But as she stepped into a secluded area, Persephone was suddenly met by a male werewolf, while Stella was nowhere to be seen. “I guess you didn’t see this coming.. You.. You’re a girl?” He spoke, as he stared at her stunned, when he realized it wasn’t the vampire they had been told to look out for. “Thank you for noticing,” Persephone stated with a smile, as she flicked her hair. “It doesn’t matter, you are trespassing, and I suggest you surrender yourself, immediately!” He snarled, as she giggled. “Oh, I’m sorry, should I be scared of you?” She asked, when she saw him glare at her. “No, you should be scared of all of us!” Another one spoke, as she realized there were three others. “Four against one, that doesn’t really seem fair, does it?” She pouted lightly. “You have one last chance to submit yourself, or else,” he warned her. “Or else what?” She challenged, as a wolf suddenly jumped her from behind, and immediately felt a pain shoot through her shoulder. She got the wolf off as she turned around in shock to see the wolf turn back to human form, and she knew she had seen him before. It was that guy, Kyan, who came for Jaze. “Did you just bite me?” She asked in disbelief, when she saw her shirt was covered in blood, but he didn’t answer her question. “Give it up, vampire! You are outnumbered, so don’t do anything stupid! You, resisting the inevitable, will only leave to your own demise,” He growled at her. “Like I would stay here to get slaughtered by a bunch of werewolves, no, thank you!” she shot back, as she, with a flash, grabbed his leg and tripped him before she started to run again. “Find her!” She could hear Kyan yell, but she just needed to find Dmitrij, then everything would be fine. He would know what to do. Her phone was already lost, so the easiest way was just to meet him where he told her to, but she soon realized that the bite-mark on her shoulder wasn’t healing at all. “What the fück did he do to me?” She hissed to herself, as the pain became more intense. She had heard that werewolf bites could be fatal to vampires, but she didn’t know it was because it was toxic to them. She began feeling dizzy, so she leaned against a tree, while she tried to stay hidden. At least the Ucculta Nix made sure they couldn’t sniff her out that easily, but she knew her wound and all the blood made it impossible for her to avoid them forever. She had a hard time getting her breathing back to normal, which worried her ‘cause she feared they would hear her instead. “I see you’ve been bitten!” Dmitrij stated, making her jump slightly, as she turned her head to see him standing beside her. “Dmitrij? Why isn’t it healing?” Persephone asked, as she tried to handle the pain the best she could. “Because werewolf bites are poisonous to vampires,“ he explained calmly. “And it looks like you got yourself a pretty nasty one,” he added, as he took a closer look. “Why the hell didn’t you tell me? She hissed. “Because Cain asked me not to, it could have compromised the whole mission,” he explained. “The important part is, did you get any useful information?” “Just that her weakness is some kind of stone, called the divine stone, and compelling probably doesn’t work on her.” She gasped. “Great job, Cain will be pleased about that,” he replied before turning his back to her. “Please, Dmitrij, you gotta help me!” She begged. “I’m sorry, Percy, but you’re already as good as dead,” he replied before he disappeared, and Persephone was left in complete shock and despair. For the first time in a hundred years, Persephone was actually scared of dying, left alone in the woods by someone she thought she could trust. She tried to walk, but she immediately fell to the ground, as she started to cry. The pain was only getting worse, and spreading to the rest of her body, and she felt like she was on fire and freezing to death at the same time. She had no idea how long she had been lying there, but she slowly felt like she started to slip in and out of cautiousness. Then she heard footsteps coming towards her, as the last thing she saw before she closed her eyes, was a silhouette standing before her. [..] When she opened her eyes again, she was lying on the bed, but she was cuffed to it. She tried to get free a couple of times, but nothing seemed to work. Still, she wasn’t ready to give up that easily. These people might have saved her life, but she had no idea what they were planning to do to her, so she needed to get away. “You can stop doing that, it’s futile to think you will get them off – they’re vampire proof!” A voice stated, as she saw Jaze walk in. He walked over and took a chair before he sat down on it. “Did you people save my life just to extend my misery? ‘Cause if you did, then just go ahead and end it. I’ve already realized that no one actually cares if I live or die, so please get it over with,” she mumbled, as she fought hard not to cry. He would probably enjoy seeing nothing more. “We didn’t save your life to torture you. You might believe us to be monsters, but you’re the one who came here, not the other way around.” He defended. “Right! Just because you’re cute, doesn’t make you a saint, your friend tried to kill me!” She hissed. “First of all, he is my brother, and second, you and your friend came after our cousin. He was just trying to protect her and the tribe! And we saved your life, didn’t we? So how about a little gratitude,” Jaze snapped. “Fine, you might have a point, but if you don’t plan to torture me or kill me, then what do you want from me?” “The truth!” Vlad growled as he, with a flash, was standing by the bed, as he leaned closer. “What is it Cain wants with Stella?” Persephone started to shake like a leaf, as she was genuinely scared of him. “I-I don’t know what he wants, Cain just ordered us to find information about the hybrid, and attempt to kidnap it, but we were told even if we managed to do so, that we were to let it go again, and then report back to him, I know it sounds stupid, but it’s the truth!” She blurred out. He observed her for a moment before he took a step back. “So he was testing us,” Vlad stated, as everyone frowned. “Why? What would he even gain from that?” Chase asked, as Vlad looked at him. “It’s pretty simple, he just wanted to know who the hybrid is, and what we will do to protect her, so he actually knows how to do it, when he finally decides to come for her. It’s not the first time I’ve seen that kind of strategy,” Vlad explained.
[..] Persephone sighed as an hour passed by, but then the door opened and Stella walked in. “Hey,” Stella spoke in a calm voice as she sat down next to the bed. “What are you doing here? Did you and your friends finally decide what you’re going to do with me?” She asked, even though she wasn’t sure if she wanted to know the answer. “That’s not why I came, we do not wish you any harm, but would it be alright for me to ask for your name?” Stella asked, as Persephone glanced at her. “It’s Persephone, but most people call me Percy,” she replied with a shrug. “Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Percy, I’m not sure how much you remember, but it was someone close to me who brought you in. I was told your friend left you for death in the woods. I’m genuinely sorry about that,” Stella spoke, as Persephone turned the other way. “It doesn’t matter anyway, I’ve been used to taking care of myself most of my life anyway, so it shouldn’t surprise me,” she mumbled in a low tone. “I know how it feels to be betrayed by people you care about, and believed you could trust – it hurts, but you shouldn’t blame yourself, it’s not your fault.” Stella replied, as Persephone stared at her with suspicion. “Why are you being so nice to me? What’s the catch here?” Persephone asked. “No catch, you just seem like a person with a good heart. I don’t think you like being one of the bad guys, am I right?” Stella asked as Persephone looked at the floor. “I never wanted anyone to get hurt.. For most of my life, I’ve felt alone and unwanted, so when Cain found me, I believed I finally had found a family that actually cared about me, but I guess I was wrong,” she mumbled. “I’m sorry if it’s too personal, but were you born or turned?” Stella asked. “Turned, Cain was the one who took me in and turned me after he had saved my life. My ‘real’ family sold me off when I was ten. For seven years, I was being violated and abused daily to a point where I almost died from it. Cain saved me and took care of me, and for his kindness I did whatever he asked of me.” She explained, as she turned to look at Stella, who almost looked sad. “I know what you’re thinking, it sounds pathetic. I don’t even know why I’m telling you this!” She hissed, but Stella grabbed hold of her hand. “No, not at all, actually, many people here come from similar backgrounds to yours. Of course, it will take some time before people start to trust you, but you can get a fresh start here, if you like?” “That’s really nice of you, but may I ask you something?” Persephone spoke as Stella nodded. “Sure!” “How can I still be alive right now? I felt myself dying out there, and now there’s nothing, not even a single tooth mark.” “I used my blood to heal you,” Stella revealed. “Wow, so you really saved my life then.” Persephone spoke surprised, as Stella just smiled. “How about a bath?” Stella asked, as she pulled a key out of her pocket. [..] Persephone looked around in the room for a moment, as she smiled. “So, I’ll leave you to it. You can always call me if you need anything. I’ll leave these clothes here on the bed, and then I will see you later,” Stella spoke. “Thank you again, this means a lot.” Persephone thanked her. “You’re very welcome, Good night!” Stella replied before she walked out. Then Persephone walked in to the shower and started to wash herself. It felt nice to take a bath after everything that had happened. But as she was washing her hair, she heard the door open, making her pause for a moment. She was about to ask who it was when the door to the bathroom opened, revealing a strong scent of cologne. The same one Jaze was wearing, so she just shook her head as she saw his shadow pause on the other side of the shower curtain. She pulled it slightly to the side, as she realized he had turned back around like he regretted entering the room in the first place. So she called out to him, making him tense on the spot. “Are you sneaking up on me while I’m in the shower? That’s rather naughty, don’t you think?” She asked, as she stepped out completely naked, before she grabbed a towel. “If you wanted to watch, you could just have asked, or joined me,” she added teasingly, as she walked past him. But as she leaned down to take the clothes on the bed, he suddenly grabbed her wrist and turned her around. “What game are you playing with me?” He growled angrily, as she pushed him away. “You’re the one in my room, remember, so why don’t you scram, if that is what you think!” She snapped as she glared back at him. “Then tell me why you smell like that?” He hissed, as she frowned at him. “What the hell are you babbling about? I just took a shower, after being covered in Ucculta Nix for days. What did you expect? That I would smell like nothing forever?” She asked in disbelief as she shook her head and took the clothes before heading back to the bathroom, when she recalled he didn’t remember her telling him about the Ucculta Nix. But she couldn’t really tell him that she had compelled him at their first encounter, so instead she rephrased it. “If you just came to harass me because you think I smell weird, then please leave.” And it didn’t take long before the door was slammed closed behind her.
