Chapter 61 Credence

[Stella’s POV] As Persephone was looking around the room I had fixed for her, I suddenly got a mind link from my dad. “Stella, I need you to come to my office as soon as possible,” he spoke. “Sure, I’ll be there in five,” I replied, before I turned back to Persephone. “So, I’ll leave you to it. You can always call me if you need anything. I’ll leave these clothes here on the bed, and then I see you later!” I spoke, as I placed a couple of dresses and some pants and shirts I had picked out from my own drawer, to make sure she had something to wear. “Thank you again, this means a lot.” Persephone thanked me, and I could see she really meant it, which made me even more sure that I was doing the right thing. “You’re very welcome, Good night!” I replied, before I walked out. Then I headed straight for my father’s office, but on the way I was mind linked by Jaze as well. “Where the hell is she, Stella?!” He growled, making me give a small sigh, ‘cause I knew this would come. “Oh relax Jaze, she needed to feel welcomed, not to be treated like some kind of prisoner. Cut her some slack, will you!” I answered calmly. “I am completely relaxed, but you’re forgetting I’m the one responsible for her, and we have no idea if we should trust her yet. If anything happens, I will be to blame!” He scolded. “Nothing will happen, I promise, I got it covered,” I chipped, as I reached the door to the office and opened it. When I walked into the office, I saw my dad and uncle Vlad were discussing something in a low voice, but the moment I closed the door, they stopped and turned their attention to me. “Do you know where that girl is?” My dad asked me, as I nodded. “Yes, I’m the one who removed the cuffs, and gave her a room to stay in,” I replied. “Have you completely lost your mind? She is an enemy who at any given moment can stab us in the back!” Vlad snapped, as I crossed my arms. “No, I talked to her, and she is not as bad as you think!” “You can’t make that decision before it’s been proven!” He shot once again. “I’m serious, Vlad, she didn’t deserve to be cuffed to some bed. How about showing me a little trust? I think I’ve proven more than once that I’m capable of making these kinds of decisions!” I hissed back. “You might be able to read most people, but not vampires, Stella, you have no idea what they are capable of doing or how great manipulators they are!” He scolded. “And you clearly know them all? I talked to her, Vlad, and she’s just a girl, she just needs someone to see her and understand her!” I defended. “Bullshít!” Vlad growled, as he banged his hand down on the table. “Dad, do you think I was wrong or do you agree with me?” I asked, as I looked at him. “You both heard my answer earlier. Maybe Vlad believes you made a hasty decision, but Vlad, I have to trust Stella on this.” “But you promised she wouldn’t be allowed to wander around before we had the chance to have a proper interrogation, you’re only doing this because you’re scared to take a stand after your last mistake!” Vlad snapped. “You’re right, ‘cause I don’t trust either of us can stay objective in this case, so I believe Stella is more than suitable to do it. This is about her, and I’m sure you’ll still be able to talk to the girl, no matter if she is cuffed or not. Jaze is still keeping an eye on her every move, so it should be fine,” Chase spoke, making Vlad growl in frustration, and turned away, but then we all realized Armaros had arrived as he came through the door. “Finally! Armaros, can you please talk some sense into them! Tell them it’s madness to let someone walk around the tribe only a few hours after the person tried to get Stella kidnapped!” Vlad shot as all of us looked at him. “You’re right, it is madness..” Armaros spoke, as Vlad turned back to me and my dad, as I sighed. “Do you see? I’m right,” Vlad told us, before Armaros cut in again. “But! I also know Stella, and if there is something she is good at, it’s recognizing a person’s true self. I’ve seen it more than once. So I trust she knows what she’s doing,” Armaros proclaimed, as I couldn’t help but smile, but Vlad was clearly píssed by it and glared at him. “This is bullshít, all of you will see that soon, and when you do, let’s hope the damage won’t be irreparable!” He shot as he left the room. I gave a sigh as I steadied myself on my dad’s desk. I didn’t want to fight with my uncle Vlad. He had always been there for me and supported my every decision, but this was apparently too much for him to handle, but I just hoped I would be able to prove him wrong. “What is that?” My dad suddenly asked me as he pointed at the ring on my finger. I had completely forgotten all about it, but I realized, even if the time was off, that there was no way around it. “It was supposed to be a surprise, as we wanted to tell you and mom at dinner tonight, but..” I started as I turned to Armaros, as he stepped over to me. “I asked your daughter to marry me, and she said yes,” Armaros revealed as he put an arm around my waist. He sent me a smile before both of us looked at my dad, who looked at us with suspicion in his eyes. “Are you pregnant? ‘Cause if he is proposing because he got you pregnant, I wil..” my dad started, before I cut in. “Dad! He didn’t ask me because I’m pregnant, which I’m NOT by the way..” I blurred out, as I looked at Armaros once again, as he sent me another smile, which made me calm back down. “.. He did it because he wanted to, and I want to marry him too,” I added, before turning back to my dad, who looked at us clearly baffled, but as he was able to get over it, he nodded. “Then I hope he’ll make you happy, congratulations then,” he spoke with a smile, as I thanked him. “What are we congratulating?” My mom asked as she suddenly stepped in too, and my dad walked up to her and pulled her closer before he looked at us. “Our little girl is apparently getting married soon,” he spoke, as my mom’s eyes widened. “Are you serious? I’m so happy for you, honey,” my mom beamed as she hugged me and Armaros. “Thanks, mom!” I replied and hugged her back. “But you better be a good husband, ‘cause you’re officially going to be a part of the family as well as she will be a part of yours too,” my dad warned him. But there was kindness behind it, and Armaros seemed to understand. “I will, I love her more than anything else, and I will always put her happiness above everything!” Armaros declared, as he placed a kiss on my cheek. “I’m glad to hear that, but Stella, I guess your birthday dinner has to be moved to another day, ‘cause I’m not sure anyone is ready after this evening’s events,” my dad spoke, as I nodded. “I understand, I feel a little tired anyway, so I guess we’ll head back home, see you mom and dad!” I spoke before Armaros and I left his office and walked outside. All my worries started to fill my head, as I thought about whom this vampire Cain was. I was finally starting to feel like my life had become normal again, and then he had to show up. What does he even want from me? I thought to myself. But then Armaros took me by surprise, as he, at the same moment we had walked around the house, grabbed my arms and pushed me against the wall. He checked the surroundings to see if anyone was watching, before he turned back to me. “I missed you, babygirl,” he whispered in my ear as he leaned himself closer to me, while he placed a kiss on my neck. “I have missed you too,” I replied, as I proceeded to put my arms around his neck. Somehow, I forgot all my worries in a split second, while I felt sparks everywhere. “How about you sleeping at my place tonight? Though the dinner isn’t running after schedule, it doesn’t mean I can’t give you my gift,” Armaros spoke as he continued to leave kisses on my neck. He moved his hands down to my hips and pulled them against him, making my whole body go on fire. “What kind of gift are we talking about?” I asked in a low voice, as his one hand moved further down to my thigh, before he pulled my right leg around his waist. Then he moved one hand under my dress, as he let one finger trail the line of my panties, as I felt fireworks at his every touch. “I’ll show you,” he spoke, as I was only able to hum in response. Afterward, we were both lying naked in his bed, only half covered by a sheet. I was on my stomach while he was on his side resting his head on his right hand, while he caressed my bare back with the other. I explained to him everything that happened while he was gone, and he didn’t interrupt me, he just listened to my every word, until I was finally done. “But why do you think he just left like that? They lost one of their own and not even with what they came for to begin with, doesn’t it seem a little weird?” He asked me, as I nodded. “It does, but I have stopped trying to understand why because, I probably won’t understand his motivation anyway. Right now, I just wanna enjoy the last bit of my birthday with my handsome fiancé , not worrying about some thousand-year-old vampire wanting to kidnap me,” I stated. I proceeded to close my eyes as I enjoyed the movements on my back, but as he paused, I opened my eyes once again to see Armaros looking directly at me. “Babygirl, you can’t just ignore this,” Armaros stated, as I sighed. “I’m not, I just don’t wanna think about it tonight, okay?” I explained, before I placed a hand on his cheek, and I could feel he was worried, knowing someone else was after me, that we didn’t know anything about, which was probably tripping him off, and I understood that. “Dealing with my father and Damien was one thing, Stella, but this.. We know nothing about him,” he replied, as he took hold of my hand, before placing a kiss on it. “I know, but Persephone does..” I stated. “That vampire girl? You’re sure she wanna talk about it, you said it yourself, she saw them as her family and friends, why would she wanna betray them for us?” He asked. “I’m not asking her to betray anyone, just a little help to provide us with enough information, so we know what we are dealing with,” I added. “Isn’t that the same thing?” He asked, as he raised an eyebrow at me. “No, it’s not, and even so, they betrayed her first, when they left her to die. Who does that?” I huffed, as I felt angry on her behalf. Armaros gently stroked my cheek, making me focus on him once again, as he gave me a smile. “It was nice of you to help her, sometimes I really envy your ability to forgive,” he revealed. “It’s not just about forgiveness, Armaros, it’s like when I talk to a person or watch how they interact with others, I feel some kind of connection, like I’m able to see their true intentions. Does it make sense?” I asked him, as he smiled awkwardly. “Not really, but I guess that’s just one of the things I have to trust your word for, which I do,” Armaros replied, as he moved closer to me. “And I appreciate that,” I grinned, when he laid down beside me. “Talking about trust.. Can we just take time to acknowledge that your dad actually thought I was proposing to you because I had impregnated you? He really has some trust issues,” Armaros chuckled. “Hey! He’s trying, and he actually seems genuinely happy for us,” I defended, as I smiled. “I know, I know, but he does know that, eventually, that is what’s going to happen, right?” He spoke, making me look at him a bit surprised. “You mean.. Kids?” I asked, as he nodded. “Not right now, of course, but some day, I would love to. Even though I’m not sure what kind of father I’m going to be. I can’t possibly be worse than my own, right?” he explained, as I felt him starting to get nervous, though it wasn’t evident on his face. I smiled as I reached in for a kiss, before looking directly into his eyes. “I’m sure you will become a wonderful dad one day,” I replied, as his concern immediately disappeared. [..] Dmitrij returned to Cain’s house, right after he had left Persephone at the tribe. He did his best to hide how he was feeling about the whole situation, as he immediately walked in, where Cain was waiting for him. “You're back, I see, what do you have for me?” Cain asked, as Dmitrij cleared his throat. “Yes, the hybrid is apparently weakened by some kind of stone and compulsion is out of the question, or that’s what they believe, as magic apparently doesn’t work on her either. But the stone can somehow remove that resistance,” Dmitrij spoke as Cain nodded. “Great, thanks for that, you can leave now,” Cain spoke as he rose from his seat and was about to turn away from Dmitrij when Dmitrij called out for him. “Wait! I just have one question,” he spoke, as Cain tilted his head and looked at him with curiosity. “Yes, what is it?” “Why did you have to ask me to betray Percy like that?” “Because right after me, you are the person Percy trusts the most, and she sees you like a brother, so it had to be you,” Cain spoke, making Dmitrij knot his eyebrows at his answer. “I don’t understand! She is one of the people who have been here for you the longest, and you have, since I arrived 24 years ago, told me, I should make sure Percy always stayed safe, and I have, until today! Do you have any idea how devastated she was when I left her there? She trusted me and I broke that trust!” Dmitrij shot angrily. “And that is exactly why it had to be her,” Cain stated as Dmitrij frowned. “What, why? Don’t you even care that she will die alone and scared?” “Persephone is a good person, Dmitrij, and I know the hybrid will see that. I promise you, she won’t die from this. Will she be a little heartbroken by the betrayal? Yes, absolutely, but that’s it, she will survive,” he reassured. “But she will hate the both of us. Why is this hybrid so important that you would risk Percy’s life and her faith in you, like that?” Dmitrij asked in disbelief. “I have my reasons, and I’ll tell you one day, but it will not be today. For now, you just have to rely on my word,” Cain spoke as he turned his back to him. He then headed to the other side of the room and unlocked a door, and closed it behind him before Dmitrij could hear it being locked from the inside. “Dorian! Does anyone even know what he’s hiding in there?” Dmitrij asked, as he turned to the man by the door, who shook his head. “No, he always keeps it locked up.” “Really? Not even Percy?” He asked, making Dorian shake it once again. “In all my years here he has never allowed anyone to sit foot in that room, the last one who tried was killed on the spot, so I suggest you leave it be,” Dorian warned him.
