[Stella's POV]
After having stayed the night together with Vicca and Bella, we all three, decided to go down to eat at the pack house, where there were shared breakfast. I haven’t been coming there much lately.
Eating together was something, especially werewolves loved to do as a pack and I had used to love it too, but after everything, it was just not the same to me anymore. But I did it for Bella and Vicca, who had pestered me all morning about it.
“What do you want?” Bella beamed, as we found a table.
“Whatever you want is fine.” I smiled.
“Okay, but no sour face, if I’m not picking the right thing.” She teased as I chuckled.
“Promise.” I replied as her and Vicca then ran up to the brunch table and picked out different things.
“So? How did it go? I heard you got yourself a little hunting-game on your hands last night!” someone spoke, which caught my attention.
“Yeah, that’s right, Hunter died, but that motherfücker Carl got away, we almost got him, and then he slipped away!” He spoke as he banged his hand on the table. I almost froze to my spot as I heard what they said.
“Relax, at least we don’t have to see his face here anymore.” One of them stated.
“You’re right, maybe he’ll die of natural causes out there somewhere.” One spoke.
Was that the reason my dad wanted me out of the house yesterday? I thought to myself, as it all felt surreal.
“Stella, hallo?” I suddenly heard Bella’s voice as she touched my shoulder.
“Sorry, I was just listening to something.. Else?” I spoke, as I looked at her, but as I turned around to the table, it was empty, so I had no idea, who was just talking about this hunting game.
I tried to act as normal as possible, while we were eating, but I needed to figure out what it was about.
*********
“I can’t believe my father would do something like that, and then hide it from me.” I hissed, while Armaros listened.
“He probably had his reasons. Maybe he didn’t want to worry you?” He suggested.
“Or perhaps he just didn’t want me to know because he knew how angry I would be.. Now Carl is out there somewhere, instead of in a cell where we actually know what he can do.. He can be anywhere, plotting who knows what!” I spoke frustrated.
“Well, he probably isn’t gonna plot anything six feet under.” Armaros spoke as he lied down on my bed.
“What are you saying?” I asked him.
“I’m saying he is dead, so you don’t have to worry about him anymore.” He continued, as he rested his foot on his knee, as he didn’t seem the least bothered about what he was telling me.
“I don’t understand, how is that possible? Did you know about this?” I asked, confused.
“Yes, your dad told me about it, and I know he’s dead because I’m the one who shot him.” Armaros admitted. As I looked at him, utterly shocked by the realization.
“Why would you do that?” I blurred out.
“To punish him for what he did to you.” He replied, as if it would make sense.
“I don’t need you to kill people for me, it’s not right, Armaros!” I hissed at him.
“He intended to take revenge, so I did what was necessary to protect you.” He replied calmly.
“It doesn’t make it any less wrong! You could have told my dad, and we could have figured something out.” I tried again to make him realize how wrong it was, but nothing seemed to get under his skin.
“We already have enough on our hands, Stella. We don’t need any more people to worry about, and your dad already knows, so what done is done.” He dismissed.
“You really want everyone to hate you, is that what you’re trying to accomplish?” I shot.
“I really don’t care what other people think of me.” Armaros shrugged carelessly, only making me more frustrated. How could the caring side he was showing me, and this side that would kill without a second thought to it, exist in the same man?
“But I do! I care what people think. I want us to be able to be together, but it doesn’t feel like you want that.” I snapped, while tears appeared in my eyes, which finally seemed to stir something in him, as he sat up, and turned more serious.
“Of course, I want to be with you.” He spoke, as he walked up to me as he tried taking my hands in his, but I pushed them away.
“Then why do you keep on trying to ruin everything?!” I cried, before I walked to the door and left him there. As I proceeded to run down the stairs, where I passed Jaze on the way out, but I didn’t stop. For once, I just needed some time for myself.
[..]
As Stella walked out the door, Armaros followed.
“Please wait, Stella, I didn’t mean it like that!” Armaros yelled, as he continued after her. He knew she would be upset about it, but he didn’t intend to make her cry. On the stairs, he met Jaze, who was looking rather confused, as he turned to Armaros.
“What’s going on?” He asked, as Armaros sighed.
“Stella is upset that I killed Nathan’s father.” Armaros replied, as Jaze frowned.
“You.. You did what?” He asked.
“I couldn’t just let him get away with the things he had done, and he was plotting to take revenge, he deserved it!” Armaros continued to defend.
“That’s not the point here. Can’t you see she is worried? You do not play by the rules, Armaros, and you know how she feels about taking another’s life.” He spoke. But Armaros didn’t really want to hear it.
“Just shut up Jaze, I’m not in the mood for your lecturing me right now, I need to find her.” He snapped, as he continued to walk in the direction he saw her head off. But Jaze followed him.
[Stella’s POV]
I walked around by myself, as I removed the tears from my cheeks. I felt utterly confused and lost. Some part of me was angry with Armaros for killing Carl because I knew how people would react if they found out what had happened.
However, some part of me was also relieved because some part of me also felt like he deserved it, and now I didn’t have to worry about him ever hurting me again.
Maybe I should give him a chance to explain it to me? I thought to myself, as I suddenly heard someone call for me.
“Stella! Thank the Moon Goddess I found you, Nathan and Armaros are fighting. Maybe you can talk to them, before anyone gets hurt.” Dilan called, as I wondered what had happened.
“Where are they?” I asked, as he pointed to his right.
“Not that far from here, just follow me.” He replied, as he ran, and I followed behind him.
When he stopped in his tracks, I walked up beside him, where I saw Nathan to one side, and Armaros, and Jaze on the other, as they were surrounded by a group of men.
[..]
Armaros continued to look for Stella.
“Where the hell are you, Stella?” He muttered under his breath. She couldn’t possibly have gotten that far, but then someone suddenly called out to him.
“Armaros!” Nathan yelled, as Armaros turned to the direction he stood, and sighed.
“I have no time for you right now.” Armaros growled, as he turned to leave.
“Don’t you dare walk away from me, you piece of shít!” Nathan yelled at him, making Armaros pause.
“What did you call me?” Armaros asked.
“I called you a piece of shít, cause that’s what you are!” He snapped.
Armaros clearly saw how pure anger was sipping from him, and he immediately knew why.
“So you figured it out,” Armaros stated. When he looked around, he realized Nathan wasn’t alone, as four others were stepping forward too, as they were surrounding him and Jaze.
“You have done nothing but ruin my entire life, and take everything I ever cared about! You even turned Stella against me! Why do you deserve happiness after everything you have done!?” Nathan yelled angrily.
----
“Now, don’t do anything rash, Nathan!” Jaze tried to calm him.
“No Jaze, I won’t, you all turned your backs at me too, and at the same time you all just took his side like that!” He snapped, as his eyes teared up.
“That’s not true, you’re the one who pushed everyone away, Nathan. You wouldn’t listen to anything we said. Furthermore, he’s Stella’s mate, you should focus on finding yours instead of obsessing over another’s!” Jaze shot, but Nathan wasn’t listening anymore, he had completely lost it.
“No! You’ve heard first hand what he did! Because of him, I have nothing left, and it’s all his fault!” He continued.
[Stella’s POV]
“Then what are you planning to do? Tell me. Do you wanna kill me? Then go ahead.” Armaros spoke, as I stared at him in shock.
Why would he say something like that?
“No, I don’t wanna kill you, I want you to suffer like I have – death is simply too good for you.” Nathan replied, as he dried the tears from his eyes, before they found mine.
I finally had enough of their childish fights, but when I was on my way to interfere, Dilan suddenly grabbed hold of me and pushed me forward and down on my knees.
“What are you doing?” I blurred out, as Jaze and Armaros looked at me confused, when they heard my voice, which they used as a distraction to overpower Jaze and Armaros.
“I want you to suffer like I have.” He continued, as he walked closer to me, making Armaros’ eyes widen.
“Nathan, no! Look at me, this is not what you want, it’s me you’re after. I’m the one who killed your father, remember? It has nothing to do with her!” Armaros yelled, as he tried to get free, but Nathan just glared at him.
“It has everything to do with her! You stole her away from me – she can’t even look at me anymore, can you?” He asked me, as he lifted my chin, so my eyes met with his, but I shortly after looked away without saying anything.
“Do you see what I mean? I have loved her for so long, do you have any idea how much it hurts to lose her to someone like you!” He hissed as he fisted his hands in anger.
“But if I can’t have her, then I’ll just have to make sure you can’t have her either!” he stated.
“You’re wrong!” I spoke, making them all look at me.
“I might not be able to look at you, but it’s not for the reasons you think. You didn’t give me any time. After everything your dad and Hunter did, I needed space, and you were unable to give me that, and then you continued to create trouble for us inside the tribe. You even told lies about me behind my back. You’re the one who pushed me away, not Armaros, but you.” I defended.
“But he killed him!” Nathan argued, pointing at Armaros.
“I know, and I do apologize for that, I’m not condoning that kind of behavior. Even after what your dad did to me, I can understand how you feel. But please don’t sink to his level. You don’t have to do this, you’re better than that. I know you!” Stella begged, as Nathan looked to the ground.
“I’m so sorry, Stella, I never wanted it to come to this,” he apologized, before he dug a hand into his pocket, and pulled out one of the same stones I remembered Ezra had used. How he got one and why, I didn’t know, but it made me feel like I couldn’t breathe.
“No, please, Nathan, don’t do this, you have no idea what those stones do to me.” I begged, as my eyes moved between him and the stone.
“I know what they do, but I promise it’ll be over soon.” He spoke, as he moved even closer to me, before he placed the stone in my hand and closed it. I immediately felt the pain shooting through my body, as it started to drain me of energy.
“Please, make it quick.” Nathan spoke. I was surprised to see Rowan, who was a nature-witch, nod before he walked up to me and placed a hand on my head. I had no idea what he planned to do, but I knew it couldn’t possibly be good.
[Earlier]
Nathan walked into Chase’s office. He needed to talk to him, but he wasn’t there, so he decided to wait for him. But as the door slightly opened, he heard a familiar voice.
“Chase, can I talk to you alone for a moment?” Armaros asked, making Nathan’s head jerk to the door, as he started searching for a way out, while Chase had paused outside the room.
“Sure, come in.” Chase then spoke, which made Nathan decide to jump out of the window. He leaned against the outside brick wall, and closed the window, but decided to leave it open just a tad, so he could hear everything there was said between Chase and Armaros.
“You did what?!” Chase suddenly blurred out.
He killed him!
Nathan’s eyes widened as he repeated the words in his head that he had just heard leave Armaros’ mouth seconds ago.
Chase couldn’t possibly let him get away with that, would he? Nathan thought to himself, as he kept listening to the conversation.
“Didn’t you listen to a single word I said!” Chase hissed.
“I did, but I’ve already told you from the beginning that; if I ever got the chance to kill them, I would. That’s why I’m telling you now, and I clearly remember you said I couldn’t participate in the race, so I respected that, and waited until he had passed the border.” Armaros clarified.
“So now you use my own words against me? I know you believe that you are doing the right thing, but taking revenge on Stella’s behalf is not gonna change anything.” Chase stated.
“If it means that there is one less maniac out there, who would try and harm her, then I think I’m doing a pretty decent job,” Armaros defended with no remorse whatsoever.
“I will have to deal with this, please leave this instant!” Chase growled, as Nathan heard footsteps walking out the door, as it was closed.
At that moment, Nathan was completely speechless. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
How could he just let him walk away like that?
After some processing, Nathan headed directly to Dilan’s house. There seemed to be some party going on, but he didn’t care, he needed to talk to Dilan as soon as possible.
On the porch he saw Dilan together, with some of the guys he was with the day he had his fight with Armaros, and some others he hadn’t really spoken to before.
“Dilan!” Nathan called, as he turned in his direction.
“Oh, What’s going on, Nathan?” Dilan asked, as he gave him a smile, but Nathan was far from happy.
Actually, he was burning with anger, as the feeling of betrayal filled his entire body.
“I want in,” he stated, as Dilan’s face became serious.
“What did you say?”
[flashback]
“I don’t need your advice, Wilder!” Nathan snapped, as Wilder shook his head in disbelief.
“Fine! If you won’t listen to sense, then don’t expect me to try to save your áss when you screw up!” Wilder hissed, before walking out of the big hallroom, leaving Nathan with Dilan.
As he was out of the picture, Dilan skimmed the room, before he turned back to Nathan.
“You know what? If you’re serious about getting those demons kicked out, then I know someone who, undoubtedly, will be able to help you for sure!” Dilan stated, as Nathan frowned.
“Really? And who is that?” He asked.
“I wasn’t certain if you were ready to hear this, but after today, I think you are. You see, there is this secret group. They want to get rid of the demons just as much as you do, and they’ll help you if you’re willing to swear an oath to their cause,” Dilan explained in a low voice.
“A cause? What kind of cause are we talking about?”
“They wanna overthrow the Council.” He explained, as Nathan’s eyes widened.
“What! I can’t do that, that’s treason.” Nathan blurred out, as Dilan covered his mouth.
“Not so loud you i***t, just.. Think about it.” He stated, as he removed his hand from his mouth, while Nathan looked cautiously at him.
“I don’t know, Dilan, doesn’t it sound a little over the top?” Nathan asked.
“Okay, how about this? We will help you with those demons, and you can decide for yourself later what you wanna do, okay? Just remember, you can’t tell anyone about what I just told you.” Dilan warned him as he nodded.
[End of flashback]
“I said, I want in!” Nathan repeated angrily, as he fisted both his hands. Dilan observed him for a moment, but then he nodded.
“Okay, come with me.” Dilan stated as he went to the door and let him in to the house. There were numerous people inside the house and loud music. Nathan followed him to a table, where they both proceeded to sit down.
“Tell me what happened.” Dilan spoke, as he grabbed a beer for Nathan and one for himself.
“That bastard Armaros killed my father, and no one is going to do a damn thing about it. I heard him admit everything to Chase, and he was just letting him go.” Nathan hissed in anger.
“I thought the Council was here to withhold the order and rules, but they are letting him do whatever he wants, it’s not fair!” He growled, as Dilan nodded.
“I get it, they pretend to be looking out for the tribe, but it’s all one big lie because the laws don’t seem to apply to any of them or those close to them!” Dilan stated, as he took a sip of his beer.
“That’s why your dad was one of the main founders of this group, he saw the injustice and believed it should be changed.” Dilan stated, as Nathan looked at him surprised.
“Really, my father was a founder of this group?” He asked, as Dilan nodded.
“Sure, he wasn’t the only one who was displeased about Chase’s way of handling everything since it all started.
These people sought him out after he was placed in prison, and that’s how it all started. He did everything in his power to help the cause from behind the prison walls. He knew the risk and that he couldn’t tell anyone about it, but we still tried to help him to reach as far as possible in his escape. But of course, we didn’t expect that son of bítch to show up and shoot him.” Dilan explained.
“So you knew?” He asked.
“Of course we know, we have people all around the tribe, this might seem like a party from an outside perspective, but it’s just a cover-up for our meeting. But I’m glad that you decided to show up because I think you should be accompanying us.” Dilan replied.
“We have a plan, and I’m sure you are just the right person for it.” Dilan replied, as he reached his beer towards Nathan.
“As long as I get to make that bastard, Armaros, suffer too, I’ll help.” He replied, before he clinged his own bottle against his.
[..]
Armaros was unable to move, but when he saw the man, he guessed was a nature witch, placing his hand on Stella, he finally got free as he ran towards them, but once again he was tackled to the ground, this time by four people instead of two.
“I swear if you hurt her, I will kill you, and all your friends, Nathan!” Armaros yelled, but before he knew it, someone hit him in the back of his head, so he passed out.
