Chapter 3

"She's awake" I heard someone say, the sound of people walking and something beeping made my head hurt. I opened my eyes to see a white ceiling above my head. "What is this? Where am I?" I muttered, I tried to turn my head to the side to get a look of my surroundings but the headache stopped me. A man in a white coat appeared over me with a stethoscope around his neck, he checked my eyes and pulse then disappeared again. It took me a while before I realized that I was in a hospital and the man in the coat was a doctor. "How are you feeling Luna?" He asked, I couldn't see him but his voice sounded very close. "I feel strange, like something's left me," I replied. I heard him mutter something but it came out so low that I couldn't make out what he said. "We need to monitor you for a few more days" he said and appeared over me again. "Has my husband come to visit?" I asked, noticing Derek's absence. He gave me a strange look before shaking his head negatively. I was heartbroken that Derek didn't bother to check up on me at all even though he was the reason I was there. He didn't help me when I was bleeding either... wait! My baby. My eyes widened as I remembered blood streaming down my legs. "Doc, how's my baby?" I cried, holding on to the last string of hope that I had. The doctor was reluctant to give me a reply and his silence confirmed my suspicions. My chest tightened and I felt the room spinning around me "No! No! TELL ME MY BABY IS FINE!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Only then did I gather all the strength in my body and sit up in bed. I was immediately pinned down by two nurses that I didn't even know were in the room and they injected me with something. I tried struggling with them but the effect of the injection soon started to take hold, and my body slowly became numb. My eyelids grew heavy and then everything went blank. . . . I regained consciousness two hours later and saw Daphne standing next to me. "You're finally awake." she muttered with a sad smile, I looked around hoping to see Derek standing at a corner but was left disappointed. "You must be hungry, I made your favorite food..." "Where's my baby?" I chimed in, she went mute and avoided my gaze. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks as I realized that I hadn't dreamt it, my baby was really gone. Worst of all, Derek didn't even bother to come check on me. "Does he know?" I asked, Daphne didn't reply nor did she look at me. I was beginning to get annoyed by everyone ignoring me, so out of anger and frustration from everything that had happened, I snapped. "ANSWER ME!" I snapped causing her to flinch in fear, it was the first time I was yelling at her. "Y.y.yes" she stuttered. More tears flowed freely. "You can go now" I ordered, Daphne tried to say something but I shot her a glare that shut her up. She got up and bowed before walking out of the room leaving me by myself. I wasn't mad at her, I just needed some time to myself. I didn't know which was better, before I became Luna or after. I began to recall how my life at my parents house, my parents had always loved my brother more than me and treated me like a slave. It all started from when I turned 12 and I still couldn't shift into my wolf form. My mum would call me names while my dad just ignored my whole existence. School wasn't any better, everyday I was constantly bullied by my classmates as the only one who couldn't shift yet. The bullying started with them calling me names behind my back, them to my face, it then eventually escalated to straight-up hitting me. And my older brother, Mason, he wasn't any help. He would treat me like a slave and hit me whenever I made a single mistake. Between my brother and my bullies at school, I couldn't tell which was worse. There was only one person who made my childhood lively, someone who made me feel like life was worth living, and that was Genevieve. I met Genevieve when I was sixteen. I was hiding in the bathroom stall from some mean girls who were banging on the stall and calling me names as usual and she happened to walk in. Unlike other students, she didn't ignore the girls. Instead, she dumped a bucket of dirty water on them and we became best friends ever since, that was, until I turned twenty-two. Neither Genevieve nor I had found our mate, I had totally given up on mine while Genny hoped her mate was the future Alpha who was schooling in another pack. We both attended his welcome back banquet and Genny was faced with disappointment when she didn't feel the mate connection. I, on the other hand, felt a tingling sensation that led me right in front of Derek and right there, he claimed me as his mate. I was happy to have finally found my mate and expected Genny to share my joy but was dumbfounded when she begged me to reject him. I refused and that led to the end of our friendship. At that time, I thought I had made the right decision, that I had won. But now, looking back at those moments, I realized how big of a fool I was. I burst into tears. If only I could turn back the hands of time. . . . I was discharged a few days later, and as expected, Derek didn't come to pick me up. I took a taxi home, almost crying on the way. As I walked in, I was greeted by guards and maids bowing. I made my way to my room exhausted, but as I reached the stairs, someone jumped in front of me, it was Genevieve.
