Chapter 1
Chloe's Pov "Is something wrong?" A maid asked, noticing the tears on my cheeks. I quickly wiped the tears off and tried to muster a smile but it failed to reach my eyes. "Yes, everything is great," I lied. I went back to staring at my phone in despair, my brain unable to process what I was looking at. It was a picture of my husband, Alpha Derek, and Genevieve, my ex-best friend cuddling in bed. From the looks of it, they were naked too. Genevieve and I cut ties when I found out my mate was Alpha Derek because Genevieve had always been in love with him. She couldn't accept that he was my mate and tried to get me to reject him. More tears rolled down my cheeks. I had always suspected that Derek was cheating on me but would assure myself that I was just being paranoid. Not only was he cheating on me with my arch-nemesis, but his mistress also had the guts to send a picture of their affair. Another message popped up, it was also from Genevieve, "He might be married to you, but his heart is with me. NEVER FORGET THAT". More tears threatened to fall, but I held them back, I wasn't going to let Genevieve get to me, that was what she wanted. I wanted to reply to her message, to tell she would never win, that Derek would always be mine, but I decided against it. Genevieve was probably looking to get me riled up with those pictures and do something stupid, stoop to her level, I wasn't going to do that. I deleted her messages and blocked her number to prevent her from sending any more. She wasn't worth my time. "Daphne, when is my husband getting back?" I inquired from the maid, "I can't tell but hopefully soon" She replied. Daphne was the closest thing I had to a friend right now. She kept me company when Derek was away and even when he was home, since he barely ever spoke with me. "Tell the chef to prepare something nice" I instructed and got up heading for the restroom. I had barely taken two steps from where I sat when my legs suddenly gave out, and I collapsed on the ground. "Luna, are you ok?" Daphne asked and rushed to my side. The sudden fall took me by surprise, I hadn't slipped or tripped, I just fell. Daphne helped me up and ran to the kitchen to get me a cup of water. "Here, have a sip" she handed it to me, and I took a sip. "I'm beginning to worry about you, Luna. This is the fourth time today" Daphne started with a worried look. "I don't know why this is happening either, must be stress" I said, though I doubted myself. "You should visit the pack doctor tomorrow for a checkup, who knows, you could be pregnant" Daphne advised, I almost laughed at her last statement, pregnant? I wish. In all my seven years of being married to Derek, I had never gotten pregnant once and this was as a result of the fact that Derek rarely touched me. "It can't be that, but I will take your advice and see the doctor." I got up, making sure to maintain my stamina this time before moving. I needed to use the restroom immediately. *** Derek returned home late as usual, and he smelled of female perfume. I could have sworn I spotted some lipstick stains on his shirt too, but I didn't care to confront him about it. "You're late, again" I stated as politely as possible. "Thanks for that observation," Derek replied sarcastically. I bit down on my tongue to stop myself from replying. "Have you eaten dinner?" I asked, ignoring his sarcastic remark. "Yes. Is that all? I'm really tired and need to sleep, "he said, staring at me with a bored expression. I contemplated asking him about Genevieve, I was his wife after all and I had every right to be mad that he was cheating, but then I thought about how angry he would be. Plus, I had stupidly deleted all the evidence which meant he could deny it. "I've been feeling light-headed all day, I'm thinking of going to see the doctor tomorrow" I informed. He didn't seem to care at all, he just gave me a light nod and walked past me heading for his room. "Derek!" I called, I heard his footsteps go quiet which meant he was waiting. I turned to see him now standing at the top of the stairs staring down at me with the same bored expression he always had when he was with me. "Goodnight," I muttered sadly. He raised a brow but quickly returned to normal as he continued to his room. He didn't even say goodnight back. I let out a sad sigh and fell to the ground in tears. Why did nothing ever go my way? First my family, then my friendship, and now... now even my marriage wasn't working out. "I won't give up," I said determinedly, I couldn't give up. I had given up a lot of things in my life but my marriage wasn't going to be one of them. I got up and cleaned my tears, I was on a mission to save my marriage. The next day, I asked Derek to drop me off at the hospital on his way to work, but as expected, he declined, saying he was late. I went to the hospital on my own and met with the doctor who ran some tests on me. "So we ran some tests on you, and we've discovered the reason you've been feeling so lightheaded." the doctor said, a big smile on her face as she handed me the test results. I opened it up to see a bunch of words that I couldn't understand, so I asked her for clarification "what does this mean?" "Congratulations, Luna! You're three weeks pregnant!”
