Maze

With the type of life I lived, time moved fast and slow at the same time. Depending on which would hurt me more, time treated me like the rest of my pack. A worthless Omega. Before I knew what was happening, it was twenty-four hours until my eighteenth birthday. I was excited for the first time in a long time, but I should have known better. It was just the calm before the storm. Who told me that I'd ever have anything to be excited about? In my mind, I was thinking, “My days in Razor Pack are numbered. I’m about to find my mate and flee to his pack.” Little did I know that I would be fleeing the Razor Pack for good and for fear of my life. My birthday morning was a sunny one. I was anxious the entire time at school. I looked forward to meeting my wolf, and from the start of the day until midday, nothing had happened. I was so anxious that I nearly lost my mind. I didn’t concentrate in class. The more the delay in meeting my wolf, the more I thought I’d never meet her, and was fated to be one of those wolves that either never found their wolf/mate or found them later in life. I was demoralized when I got back to the pack house, and nothing had happened. I made lunch and everyone ate their fill and naturally either fell asleep or were by themselves. Then something happened. “Ayra.” I heard my name. I paused. “Who’s there?” I thought Constance had come to punish me as usual. “It’s me, Maze. Your wolf.” I heard my wolf's voice. Oh, the moon goddess had answered me. My wolf is here finally. My eyes bulged with excitement at the thought. I was one step closer to gaining freedom. “Maze?” I replied. “Wait, don’t get ahead of yourself. Let’s take a run.” Maze was so forward. “A run?” I was not sure of that. A run to where? I had not run too far into the Pack’s woods before because, in case I experienced danger, I couldn’t protect myself as I had no wolf. “Yes, now. I bet your Alpha’s girlfriend will be here soon to punish you... Us.” Maze already knew what I suffered daily. “How did you...” I was about to ask my wolf how she knew about Constance, but she interrupted me, very rudely. My bones started shifting. Right there in my little storage room, I was shifting to my wolf. Because of how small my room was, my transformation caused me to knock things over. My dressing mirror tumbled down, but I was too busy transforming to try and keep the noise down. I could only wish in my thoughts that no one would show up trying to find out what the matter was. “Run!” Maze didn’t even let me feel her presence, as I had transformed completely before she ordered me. Before I knew what was going on, I was running full speed towards the woods. I felt on top of the world for the first time in my life. I eventually had time to take in my wolf. I was a white wolf. I was a pure white wolf with not a drop of black or brown. I was white as snow. And my size. Now, let me reveal something to you. Remember I said the wolves from the Razor Pack were extremely large. In that case, my being an Omega from the Razor Pack meant that I was smaller in stature, but compared to other regular packs, I was big enough. I didn’t have a regular Omega size. My being an Omega was just for the Razor Pack. Get it? In another pack, I could even pass for a Beta or at least Gamma. I had never felt so much joy in my life. It was glorious to see my white fur brushing against the wind as I took flight into the woods with my wolf, Maze, giggling joyfully. We were having the best time until I figured out that Maze was becoming a little bit too excited. “Maze?” I called her when I could no longer control my worry. “Isn’t this so beautiful?” Maze replied. I was confused. “Yes, yes, it is. Keep going in the woods, we are almost there.” Maze sounded as if we were actually headed somewhere. We just wanted to run into the woods, and from the look of things, we were already there. So what did she mean by saying, “We are almost there?” “Almost where, Maze? We are in the woods already,” I replied. At that point, I came to a complete halt as I couldn’t understand Maze anymore. We were already deep in the woods. Where was she taking me to? “Why did you stop, Ayra? Our mate is calling, let’s keep going.” Maze sounded upset. “But...” I winced. Why would my mate be so deep in the woods? What sort of mate would an Omega like me have in the woods? With Mazes’ constant insistence, I could only fearfully take gallops into the woods. I was scared to wits. But something started happening to me too. I started to feel as excited as Maze at a point. The deeper we got into the woods, the more excited I became. For the second time during my first flight as a wolf, I abruptly stopped running, and this time, Maze didn’t bother me as we were staring in the same direction. My heart stopped, and I transformed back to my human form when I saw who was ahead of me standing in the river and taking in the sun. My mate.
