Ayra
I ran far away from the Razor Pack while my wolf howled in pain. I felt for Maze. The world was cold and wicked to me and if I could, I would rather she didn’t emerge to witness half of the pain I had been through. There was no pain greater than the pain of being rejected by a mate with such harsh circumstances surrounding it.
I ran for miles. I was a rogue now, and I was prone to danger. Luckily, my unusual size was able to ward off other rogues that might come after me, as well as other natural dangers that I might meet on my way. I knew I had to find a way to blend into another community, as a human this time.
I thought of going to foster care, but I was quickly reminded that I was eighteen. No one would take an adult into foster care. It so happened that I saw a diner with a sign for a vacancy. This was the third day after I left Razor Pack. I was so happy to find this job because I had starved for three days, not bathed properly, and I also had not had any decent sleep.
Long story short, I got a job at a diner. The job provided me with accommodation, and I got to eat the food from the diner, so my housing and feeding were taken care of. What an intense stroke of luck if you ask me.
Three months later, I had blossomed into a completely new and different person. I must say that since I lost my parents, this was the best I have ever been, and I have Constance to thank for it. She forced me out of the Razor Pack, which was something I should have done a long time ago. I was thinking about that when I remembered my wolf, Maze. She had disappeared. No matter what happened, and no matter how I spoke to her, she never replied. I even begged her, to no avail. I eventually forgot about Maze until something strange happened in the diner where I worked.
Three devilishly handsome young men entered the diner, and they all looked the same. They had to be triplets. There was no other explanation as to why they looked the same. When they sat down to make an order, I heard Maze whimper. I paused what I was doing and just stood at a spot, frozen to the depths of my mind. I watched the men closely as my colleagues took their orders. In my three months of working in the diner, I had never seen those men before. While one of them was making his order which I was sure would cover for the rest of them, I saw one of them dart his attention towards where I was standing. He appeared to be sniffing something desperately.
“What’s that scent?” I heard him ask my colleague.
My colleague, of course, was confused.
Scent? Did I just hear them ask after a scent? Something sounded familiar.
“Oh, it must be maple syrup. Do you want some along with your order?” My colleague was innocent of what they might mean.
The leader of the three identical men looked around the diner. I made sure to stay out of sight as I watched them closely. My wolf was fighting to be let lose, but I did everything in my power to hold Maze back. It was obvious those men were werewolves, and since I moved into this new town, I had not met any werewolves and I loved it that way. I had peace. The only problem was that
Maze was lonely and dejected.
“You perceive something?” The leader of the three men asked his brothers.
“It smells of elixir, vanilla and a rare berry,” The other man replied.
“We don’t have an elixir-spiced meal on our menu. I’m sorry, but we don’t serve continental dishes.” My colleague courtesies and smiles as she looks at the men, completely oblivious to what is happening.
I felt pity for her. She had just been employed and was trying to impress the owner of the diner, Mark, so she stood there, clueless, and waiting for the men to get comfortable.
The spoiler happened when Mark called my name from the door of the diner. It was so loud, there was no way everyone in the diner would not know my name was Ayra.
I froze behind the counter as I tried to ignore him, pretending not to have heard him even though he was loud and clear.
“Ayra!” My overzealous colleague called.
I rolled my eyes and went out of hiding. As I already imagined, the three men turned sharply in my direction, and then they stared at themselves, looking shocked as if something extraordinary had happened.
Everything seemed to stop at this point. Time literally stopped as everyone followed the eyes of the men who were staring at me. It was as if the entire diner was in a trance. I had never had it so intense before, not even when I was in the Razor Pack.
I could see the look on my colleague's face, and it was full of dread. She thought she had done something wrong at first, then I bet she thought I had done something wrong from the way the men and the entire diner were looking at me.
It took me a while to realize what was going on. The three of them got up and started to walk towards me. I stood behind the counter with my eyes wide, and my wolf howling.
“Mates. Mates!” For the first time since Constance chased me away from the Razor Pack, my wolf, Maze, came back alive. Her excitement caused goosebumps to appear all over my skin.
I was flabbergasted. Three mates? What was the moon goddess up to this time?
