Mac - POV
I dressed and sat in my empty room, contemplating the upcoming ritual that would determine if I'd be appointed as the Beta of the Silver Canines Pack. As the weight of this responsibility settled on my shoulders, I couldn't help but miss Yuri. Although my attraction to her wolf was gone, the absence of her presence lingered. She had worked hard for the role of Beta, and I felt a sense of letting her down.
Prepared to leave my home, I noticed my parents' picture on the wall, triggering memories of the shocking letter revealing they were my adoptive parents. The desire to know my birth parents and uncover my roots lingered, but I pushed aside the dark thoughts and sadness.
Upon reaching the Manor of Alpha Silas, I witnessed a heated discussion among the Beta community of the Silver Canines Pack. They argued against my participation in the Beta ritual test, insisting that it should be someone from their community. Alpha Silas, however, remained calm and stated, "Former Beta Yuri wished for Mac to take the ritual. I will honor her request. It's final; you may leave the Manor."
As the leaders of the Beta community left, their frowns and hate-filled looks directed at me made me ponder the long-standing disdain I had faced in the pack. Now understanding that I was an orphan, brought from the streets and not born into the prestigious Silver Canines Pack, I realized that even Alpha Silas had faced similar hostility, quelled only by his unwavering power and authority.
"Mac," Alpha Silas called. "You heard everything," he inquired, not pleased with what transpired.
"Can't ignore the hate glare. I'm used to it," I replied.
"Don't let some traditional assholes bother you. I've been in the same shoes; you'll get over these things soon," Alpha Silas reassured me. I smiled at his words.
"Are you ready to take the test?" Alpha Silas asked. I nodded, following him into the Moon Goddess shrine. Alpha Silas chanted a spell, and I removed my coat, shirt, and loafers, placing them aside. Stepping into the vortex-like structure, I braced myself for the challenge. This vortex was where I would face various creatures, a test Alpha Silas used for his Beta and Omega also taken by Alpha and its heir. As I entered, the dark forest awaited, and I could sense eerie and dark creatures roaming around.
"Come on, fight me, assholes!" I provoked, holding a snapped branch as a makeshift weapon. I turned to dodge the attack of a feral-looking beast, an ugly creature running on four legs. Using my half-claws, I ripped it apart. The other beastly creatures approached me, attacking like a team of savage soldiers. Shifting, I felt different, not entirely myself, and wondered about the changes occurring within me.
Alec, my wolf, communicated, "Our powers are channeling from the Moon Goddess. It's unleashing our true power."
"What do you mean?" I asked, grappling with the strength coursing through me as I fought the beasts.
"I'm sorry for hiding our power. It was the Moon Goddess's instruction for us," Alec confessed. "We are Alpha wolves of the Night Pack, originating from the Dark world. Alpha Silas is the Light wolf, and we come from the Dark side. Moon goddess said to reveal the truth today as our pack is suffering and needs us." I was shocked to learn this revelation from my wolf in the midst of the intense battle.
I stood in the bloody aftermath, surrounded by disfigured beasts that I had shredded with my newfound wolf power. Transforming back, I panted, feeling my muscles and body grow more powerful, beyond that of a Beta or Omega.
"Alpha Silas will be shocked and think of me as a threat," I whispered, contemplating the potential repercussions. As the vortex closed, Alpha Silas handed me a towel to cover my naked frame. He stood calm, not appearing surprised at all.
"You know what I am," I asked.
"Hard not to tell who you are now. I can see you are an Alpha," Alpha Silas replied. "I sensed something in you is off, so I let you take the test."
"Alpha Silas," He stopped me from speaking.
"Call me Sila; you are Alpha Mac," Silas suggested.
"I am a dark Alpha, and you don't see me as an enemy," I questioned.
"No," Silas affirmed. "If you hurt my pack, I will kill you, and I know you won't hurt Silver Canines Pack as you care about this pack too."
"I do," I acknowledged.
"You will have to leave the pack and go to the Night Pack," Silas declared. "You need to figure out the Night pack's current Alpha plans and tell me. I will lend you the help to reclaim the Alpha power of Night Pack."
"I need to know about my birth parents, what happened to them. If I am the Alpha of the Night Pack, there must be a story I am not aware of," I stated.
"I understand," Silas responded. "I hope you figure out the truth."
"Thank you, Silas," I expressed gratitude. He smiled. "Elena will be happy to hear this news. Also, my mom predicted this outcome." I blinked in surprise.
"Now get going, Mac. I am waiting to hear from you," Silas said. I walked to my home one last time, packing my bag for the journey to the Night Pack. Elena and Ellie were waiting for me midway to exit the pack territory.
"Safe journey, Mac. Take care. And remember, you have to give updates to me; after all, I am your sister," Elena said. I nodded and hugged her; our bond had strengthened over the past three years.
"You also have a mother here," Ellie added, Silas's mother, who had cared for me and Yuri like her own children, cooking us delicious meals. Saying my farewell, I walked on the journey towards my newfound home.
