Yuri–POV
I rushed to the scene alongside Alpha Silas, Drake, Mac, and Elena, all of whom were fighting. I was just dodging attacks. Before the feral wolf canines could tear me to pieces, Drake used his fire magic to kill the wild wolf. I looked at him.
"You are okay," I nodded.
"Thank you," I muttered, feeling bad for not having a wolf anymore and defenseless and hopeless. But there was no time to cry in front of Drake, my least favorite guy. Drake and another were busy fighting, and I couldn't join them. It hit me hard.
"You need to go back to safety, please, Yuri," Mac said. It hurt me but I nodded and left, feeling more pathetic with tears flowing down my eyes. I missed my wolf. I looked at the surrounding Pack, feeling no connection to it and its surroundings, like a heightened sense. I couldn't sense it. I just looked over my shoulder to find that Alpha Silas and Elena had controlled the feral wolves and knocked them down. But my eyes landed on Drake, who stared at me with an emotion that he had been casting my way during the mission and even now. I averted my gaze, feeling the tingle in the pit of my stomach. Still, I pushed that feeling away, overwhelmed by my sad emotions.
I returned to my old home which I shared with my mom before she passed away. I packed my clothes and left a note for Alpha Silas and Elena. I also left another message for my dad, stepsister, and stepbrother, advising them to follow Drake as he would care for the Dragon shifter from the Labs, who became a Dragon shifter. I drove the car and left the Pack, intending to stay in the human world where I felt I belonged.
As soon as I reached the end of the Pack's territory, I saw Drake standing, blocking my path. I tried to change direction, but Drake stopped me. I had no option but to run over him, but Drake stopped the car with one hand. I killed the engine and stepped out of the vehicle.
"What is your problem?" I asked. Drake got closer to me.
"I came to ask you where you think you are going," Drake asked.
"I don't report to you. You are not my Alpha," I retorted, putting my hands on my hips and giving him a defiant look.
"I am your king now, Yuri. You have Dragon Blood, so you are a hybrid. You are not human at all. Running to the human realm is not a solution," Drake explained. I hated he had logic in his words.
"So what are you suggesting? That I follow you to a place where you have no land for dragons to stay? Also, I am still not a shifter, so I can decide for myself," I added.
"You are stubborn to deal with," Drake said with a tired sigh. I glared at him, but he was unaffected. "I have land arranged for the Dragon shifters from the Lab, and also for those with Dragon blood, but no dragon form. I believe the Night Pack will not sit quietly. They will hunt down the mixed bloodlines of dragons and humans. Also, they take their Lab subject Dragon shifters Back."
"Why are you speaking so logically these days?" I remarked, and Drake just smiled.
"I am not surprised that you think of me as a fool," Drake responded sarcastically.
"Where is this land you're taking us to?" I asked.
"Alaska," Drake said. "The cold is a good place for dragons to live since they are all fire-natured. Being in a cold surroundings will help them keep their dragon side level-headed."
"Damn, I hate the cold," I mumbled.
"Let's go back to the Pack. I need to take the others through teleportation," Drake said, and I got in the car and drove back with him.
"How did you know I was planning to leave? You were busy fighting," I asked.
"I didn't," Drake responded, and I looked at him. It seemed he was hiding something from me, as I was sure something was off about him. As soon as I got back to the Pack…
"You dared to run away," Elena scolded me, then hugged me.
"Did you guys read the letter so soon?" I asked.
"Drake informed Silas about your plans and used teleportation to stop you," Elena explained.
"Yuri, never think of leaving us behind. We met after so many years, and you plan to leave me alone?" Dad said, hugging me. And maybe I reminded him of how my mom fled to the Pack and left my dad alone. Drake spoke with Silas to take me and others to Dragon Land, and I saw Mac holding a sad gaze, staring at me. And I agreed to go to Dragon Land. Elena and Alpha Silas looked at me with downcast eyes. Still, they knew my decision was final: to go to Dragon Land. If not, then the human world, as I felt sad being around in the Pack with no wolf spirit in me. I said goodbye to Elena Alpha Silas and Emily, who assured me she would find the cure to my curse. Though my wolf is gone, my mate bond curse exists, and Emily told me the curse also affects my health if not cured, as I found out when I was in the hospital.
"You are serious about going to Dragon Land?" Mac finally asked before I stepped into the teleportation.
"I am, Mac. You need to be a good Beta of the Pack. I believe you will be stronger and be a great help to Alpha Silas and the Silver Canines Pack," I muttered as I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"What about us, Yuri? Don't you feel the pull towards me anymore?" Mac asked, being upfront.
"No, Mac, not anymore. The pull of attraction has disappeared," I muttered. Mac looked hurt by the news. "I hope you find a mate soon." Mac pulled me into a tight hug, and I hugged him back. We have gone through many ups and downs, and when we went on missions, Mac was my best friend.
"Time to leave," Drake said with a hint of jealousy, and I stepped into the portal. But Mac held me back to give me a parting gift–a bracelet that said 'miss you.' Mac put it on my wrist before I finally went through to the other side of the teleportation. It was snowy, but I saw the place had many empty homes.
"Welcome to Dragon Land, everyone," Drake said. "You will all stay here and are free to go around the world, but given the state of danger we all are in, I can't let others move around the human world as you follow my instructions as I am the Last Dragon King, so I will be the one training you all on how to manage your dragons and how to unleash dragon power, even if you are non-shifters with Dragon Bloodline," Drake explained. Everyone and no one dared to argue with Drake as I felt his dominating aura for the first time. All of the Lab subject Dragon shifters wanted to go to the human world, their home. Still, when they learned they had dragons in them and could hurt others without control, they followed Drake to learn and agree to stay in Dragon Land to be in control and not go feral and die. Walk to empty homes one after the other. I followed Dad, my stepsister Nedra, and my stepbrother Nex. Drake held my hand.
"You will stay with me," he said. I blinked at him in confusion.
"Why?" I asked.
"I need to check if you are my mate," Drake said, and I stood still at his words.
