Yuri - POV
When I reached the site where the building was left with debris, I saw the guards of the Night Pack come to the site and ask us to step away, not allowing us to go further. I hated stepping away, but my eyes snapped at the guy who walked in with authority. He wasn't the Alpha but gave off the air of a Beta or Gamma.
"Beta Ted," the guard informed him, adding that there were no casualties or injuries. He nodded, looking at us with curiosity and a slight suspicion as we stood on the other side, watching the guards in action, helping their civilians evacuate the place.
"You three, get out of here; there's nothing for you to see," Ted said sternly. I walked up to him. Mac held my hand and shook his head, discouraging me from speaking about the meeting.
I turned over my shoulder to see Ted staring at me as I walked away from the site. "I wish to finish this mission and return home soon," I said impatiently. I needed to go home to the Silver Canines pack and find out the mystery of my biological family and the curse on me.
"Relax, Yuri; impatience can turn the mission south," Mac said coolly. I hated his logical answer, but he couldn't understand my desperation. I looked at Drake, who seemed lost in thought and zoning out.
As we returned to the suite, I went to my room to clear my head as I felt my emotions catching up. Based on the spy-collected data, I looked up the file given by Alpha Silas on Ted. It mentioned where Ted goes, whom he meets, and how the spy helped us set up a meeting with him tomorrow under the pretext of telling Ted we were rogue wolves looking for work.
I read the file. Ted always goes to Morningstar pub at night. I checked the time. It was already past ten, and Ted was going to the pub at 11:00 pm. I cracked open the door of my room to see if the hallway was clear; Drake and Mac were in their rooms. I stepped out quietly, not making any sound, and slowly opened the door to get away from the room to spy on Ted.
"Going somewhere?" A whisper next to my ear made me jump, and I turned to see Drake standing so close to me that I could feel his breath on me. My body reacted to it with subtle heat. His eyes and purple irises captivated me. A door shut, breaking the spell, and I looked at Mac, who came out of his room shirtless, giving a good view of his toned muscles.
"Trying to sneak out of the room to spy on Ted?" Mac asked, staring at me. Drake distanced himself from me, and the warmth radiating from his body disappeared as I stood confused by the emotions pulling me to Drake and Mac simultaneously.
"None of your business where I go," I replied, trying to get myself together and not think too much about this pull anymore. Mac sighed.
"We can't spy on him, Yuri. Even if we mask our energies, we're already hiding our powers of Omega and Beta," Mac said, drinking a beer from the fridge and drinking. "Not to forget, Drake is not a wolf but a dragon, and we try to conceal energies when we spy. It might not go well."
"I remember Emily telling me not to use my dragon powers if I had to conceal my dragon identity, and if I did, the fake wolf bubble around me would disappear," Drake added.
"We need to take risks here," I said.
"Risk has to be taken with an understanding of the situation rather than just walking in without thinking," Drake retorted. I glared at his response, and seeing my reaction, Drake smirked.
"Though I hate this jerk of a Dragon here, he does have a point." I glared at Mac's remark. I thought he would support me in spying on the guy, but I was wrong.
"The feeling is mutual, Mac," Drake added.
"No option but to wait until we meet this Ted guy tomorrow." Drake and Mac nodded in response.

I tossed and turned on the bed. Memories of my mother and I making it through difficult times after my father died filled my thoughts. I learned recently he was not my biological father, and I don't know who my biological father who inherited the dragon bloodline is. I sat on the bed, and my eyes traveled to the window to see it was dawn. I felt irritated by the lack of answers to my questions. On top of it, this mission was a priority, and I couldn't say no to it, as Alpha Silas also needed some family time.
I meditated in my room to clear my head before the meeting and keep my emotions at bay. Quickly showering and changing into a casual outfit, the three of us grabbed a quick bite for breakfast and headed to the meeting place. We saw Ted sitting there, his eyes shut, his back resting on the chair, and dark circles under his eyes. A soldier murmured softly into his ears as he noticed us from the cafe's entrance.
Ted's eyes snapped open as Mac, Drake, and I stood before him. "You three were at the festival last night." Ted gestured for us to take a seat, and we did.
"Yes, we were," Drake answered.
"So, Solomon told me you three were rogues who pulled off significant robberies," Ted asked. Solomon was our spy close to Ted's circle and had gained his trust.
"Yes, we three are a team. This is Yuri, Drake, and I am Mac."
"No last names, eh?" Ted asked.
"You know rogues ditch their surnames when they leave their pack or are exiled," I answered Ted's question.
"Interesting, this tradition comes from the North side of the Pack." He muttered. I knew Ted's words meant we left the Silver Canines Pack as this was only our pack's tradition.
"I don't take rogues into my circle without giving a test. Solomon must have told you that," Ted asked, and we three nodded. "Good. I will send Solomon to the suite you three share. I heard it was an Extravagance one. Enjoying the spoils of your robbery," Ted said with a small smile playing on his lips as his brown eyes studied us.
"I will take my leave. See you after you finish your assignment." Ted checked himself in a small mirror reflection, combing his brown hair with his fingers and running his hand over his chin and brown beard before he exited the door with a soldier.
We left silently because the way Ted said it meant he was watching us, and we had to be watchful. We three waited in the room patiently for Solomon to show up with the task.
A knock came. Mac attended the door, and I saw Solomon walking in, looking sharp in his casuals. He smiled at me. "Why are you looking so quiet and tense?" Solomon asked. I wrote on a piece of paper.
"Ted subtly warned us we are being watched, or maybe this room is compromised." I showed the paper to him. Scared to even talk out loud, I wasn't sure if they put a magical mic or camera in our room. Solomon sighed.
"Chill out, Yuri. You are free to speak. This room is not compromised," Solomon said.
"How can you be so sure?" Drake asked.
"I sense no magic in the room. If you three calm down and aren't on edge, you can sense it too," Solomon said. After a few breaths, I could feel the room was clean and had no magic.
"So he was instilling fear in us so we don't go feral and attack any civilians in the pack," Mac asked. Solomon nodded.
"Mac, you have a different mission to do. Drake and Yuri have a mission together." He gave Mac his letter and handed me mine. Mac was unhappy with the arrangement, and I knew why—he was jealous of me because I would be with Drake on this test.
I opened the letter to find a map. Drake looked shocked upon seeing the map. Below it was written, "Place, where you can find a handful of humans with a dragon bloodline, inherited as these, were men and women born from dragon shifters and human love." I looked at Drake. Mac appeared puzzled until I showed him the context. Drake and Mac knew my biological father was a human who had inherited a dragon bloodline. This could help me find the truth.
Moon Goddess, I pray for your guidance in helping me find my father. I hope he is alive. Please assist me in finding the answers I seek and overcoming this curse. I desperately yearn to meet my fated mate and marry my fated mate.
