Alpha Grey, Luna Eleanor is awake, she has regained consciousness”, the omega maid excitedly informed Grey, who had dozed off beside Eleanor while waiting for her to wake up.
He quickly opened his eyes and turned towards Eleanor, who was struggling to catch her breath. He held her hand, rubbing it to make it warm while he ordered the omega to call in the doctor, so they could check on her.
“My love, you will be okay, I promise you”, Alpha Grey assured her as he placed kisses on her hand.
“Get your hands off me”, Eleanor scorned her husband, pulling her hands out of his hand and turning her back to him.
Grey was taken aback by this act of hers; it broke his heart into pieces. He had never imagined that a day would come when his wife would ask him to stay away from her. Even when she found out about his relationship with Zephyr, she didn't push him away.
If she could forgive him for his infidelity, why couldn't she forgive him for trying to save her life, the pack, and their family business? He asked himself as he watched her crying quietly.
“Eleanor, you know I did what I had to do for us to survive, the prophecy Zephyr had…”, Eleanor cut him off in anguish.
She couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth.
The great Alpha Grey was backed into a corner because of a mere prophecy?
The nerve of this man to make excuses for his actions had her burning with anger.
“The prophecy? You are 'The' Alpha Grey, you are supposed to protect your child and not push him to his death. As for Zephyr, we both know she was the happiest person on earth with that prophecy of hers, and how are you sure the moon goddess really revealed that to her? Besides, who listens to sorceresses at this age, we are not in the ancient days, Alpha”, Eleanor scoffed at Grey for his gullible explanation. She just couldn't understand how he could let a mere woman dictate how he ruled his empire.
“Eleanor, you know just how important Zephyr's lineage is to my family and I can't just overlook or try to use my power as the Alpha over her, we can't annoy the mouthpiece of the goddess, please try to understand”, Grey begged.
Eleanor rolled her eyes as she watched him, she wiped the tears off her face and kept a straight face.
“Well, I'm sure you can at least live without the love and support of your Luna. Please leave my bedroom”, Eleanor spoke sternly, pointing her finger at the door.
“Eleanor, my love”, Grey called her name, his eyes filled with unshed tears and his voice was laced with pain, he was hoping his one true love would try to understand why he did what he did, but instead he was yelled at by her.
“Get out of here, you coward! Yes, that's what you are, a coward”, Eleanor screamed at him as she gasped for breath.
The doctors rushed over to her and pleaded with Grey to leave and come back when she was calm, as it wasn't good for her health if she continued to get angry.
Grey left, devastated at himself. He knew Eleanor was right. After all, he was the Alpha and his words were law, so why couldn't he challenge this so-called prophecy or, better still, summon another sorceress to find out if the prophecy was truly genuine.
But then again, he knew none of them would have dared to show their faces at his castle, as they would all be scared of Zephyr's wrath.
He quietly walked down to his wing, his thoughts wrapped around him, until his Beta called out his attention.
“I have done as you ordered Alpha Grey”, he said, bowing his head to show his respect before he lifted it.
“Thank you, Oliver, I will never forget this favor you have done for me”, Grey patted his shoulders and walked into his room.
Oliver watched him and shook his head. He knew things wouldn't be as easy as they used to be, everything had changed just because of a mere prophecy. He sighed and left.
As Oliver thought, he had been right.
Things did become worse at Alpha Grey and Luna Eleanor's mansion. Eleanor, who was known to be a loving and caring person, turned into a cold-hearted person. She no longer had her smile, the warmth people felt when they were around her was no longer there.
Her heart became dark and filled with vengeance, which made Grey and everyone wary of her.
Eleanor, who was a blessing in his life, had become a curse to him.
This went on for so long that Grey was forced to find solace in the arms and bed of Zephyr again.
That one act of his was what destroyed whatever love Eleanor had left for him. She thought about breaking their mating bond and leaving him, but she couldn't because she needed to be there for her son when the time came.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Twenty years later~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Airen Zev, who was also called Airen Smith, grew into an enthralling human.
Some men were average. Some men were above average. And then, a select few men were considered ethereal.
Airen was one of those men.
When he was seated and all you could see was his shoulder-length, black mixed with silver wavy mane, his stormy blue and light gray eyes that pulled you in, his strong straight nose with a light dusting of freckles and those lips, those red, red lips, you would have thought Airen a girl because you would assume that no man had any business looking like that.
But then he would stand, affording you a view of his ripped abdomen that was evident even in the loosest of clothes and his tattoos that extended from his neck due to his chest, and you knew undoubtedly that he was all man.
But you can't let his looks fool you. Airen was a straight-A student, but that wasn't all, he was as troublesome and as stubborn as a mule.
One thing Arien didn't joke about was his family, especially his sister Lola. Both of them were inseparable.
There was no Airen without Lola, their bond was one to be jealous of.
“Airen, please be careful when you drive and don't get into any fights”, Airen's mother, Mildred, pleaded as she watched him run off to his car.
“I hear your mother”, Airen yelled out, while Mildred chuckled.
“Bye mum, see you later”, Lola hugged and kissed Mildred on her cheeks.
As she was about to leave, Mildred held her hand, stopping her from going.
“What mum? Airen is waiting for me, you know how he gets when he is kept waiting”. Lola was more concerned about her brother's nagging than her mother, who was looking at her with so much concern in her eyes.
“Lola, please promise me you will look after him. Only we know who he truly is, and it's our duty to protect him”, Mildred became emotional all of a sudden, which got Lola confused about her mother's attitude.
“Mama, I know. You have told us this right from the first day you brought him home”. Lola assured her mother that she needed not to worry about anything, giving her another kiss on her cheek, before leaving she took a piece of toast and dashed off to Arien's car.
“Hmm”, Mildred exhaled deeply. She had this uneasy feeling that something was wrong, or something bad was about to happen.
She sat on the stool in the kitchen and soon blacked out, deep in her thoughts.
“Mum, is everything alright?”, Matthew, her eldest son, questioned as he poured some milk into a glass.
“Huh? Yeah, everything is fine, I just hope Airen will keep his anger in check and not do anything stupid”. Mildred shared her worries with him.
“Mum, don't worry. Airen will be fine. Besides, he has Lola with him”, Matthew tried not to make his mother worry so much.
“Well, if you say so… ".
A sudden knock at the door interrupted Mildred.
“I'm sure it's Airen, he must have forgotten his wallet”, Mildred said as she stood to get to the door.
“Airen, how many times have I told you to always check if you are with your wallet before you go out… holy s**t”, Mildred screamed out, the glass in Matthew's hand fell out of his hand as he was startled by her scream.
“Mum, could you try to be less dramatic because you just startled me”, Matthew nagged as he made his way down to her to see what was going on. Getting there, he met his mother whimpering on the floor.
“Who the f**k are you?”, he questioned, and rushed to his mother's side.
“A mere omega dares question us? Pfft, disgraceful!” One of the men sneered at Mathew.
“Is he Airen Zev?”, one of the strange, hefty-looking men asked.
Mildred and Matthew denied it swiftly that there was no Airen Zev in their household.
“Zephyr never lies, woman”, the man, spat at both of them.
On hearing Zephyr's name, Mildred was taken aback. She knew there was no way out of it. She looked at her son, tears trailing down her cheek, she held his hands tightly and let out a teary smile.
“The time has come”, she said calmly to him. Matthew held her hand tighter as he nodded his head to his mother and stood up from the ground.
“There is no need to deny it anymore, why are you doing this to....”, he gasped softly.
The sound of a knife swooshing was what Mildred heard.
She raised her head and saw her son gasping for air, a knife sticking out of his chest as he took a deep breath and fell into her arms.
“No, no, no”, Mildred screamed out. She tried to use her hand to put pressure on the bleeding, but she couldn't, the blood would not stop gushing out.
Matthew was already coughing out dark blood, staining his lips with his own blood, his skin had grown ashy, it was obvious that the knife which was used to pierce him was poisoned.
She began to wail uncontrollably, begging the men to kill her too. She had nothing to live for, she claimed.
“Oh, Luna Eleanor, I have failed you, I have failed to keep your son alive”, Mildred wailed, hugging her son tightly. This was her attempt to make them believe that, yes, they had gotten the real Airen.
The men spat at her face before one of them used the same silver blade which had been enchanted by Zephyr to stab Mildred, shutting her up forever.
