Chapter 5

853 Words
Felix POV - We arrived at the outskirts of the Lotus Moon Pack by the afternoon. We were greeted nearly immediately with a man just a few inches shorter than me. That didn’t say much about his height though, since I am 6’9”. “Your Majesty.” He greeted, politely, but I could tell he was wary. “My name is Griffin, I am the Beta of this pack. I apologize my Alpha isn’t here to greet you but she is still in our medical bay.” He said and I nodded. “That is fine Griffin, I was informed of your Alpha’s condition. Is she still stable?” I asked, nervous for what the answer may be. My mother was very worried about this Alpha’s condition. “She is at this time, though she still remains unconscious. As I stated in my letter, there was a werewolf who poisoned himself and attacked our Alpha, sacrificing himself to try and ensure our Alpha’s death. Thankfully, our healer recognized the signs in time.” Griffin stated, then turned and gestured towards the center of the small village. “Come, I can show you to our main house. It isn’t much, but I believe we should have space for all of you.” As we started walking, I motioned Agnes forward to my side. “Griffin,” I started, and he turned, still walking forward. “I brought one of our healers, Agnes, with me. I wanted to offer her services to your healer, she is very good with wolfsbane poisonings.” I said, and Griffin did look a little bit surprised at my offer, but schooled his expression quickly. He ran a hand through his long dark hair, and nodded. “Yes, I would like her to consult with our healer Sophia. In all honesty, she is stable, but our healer did expect her to be conscious by now.” Griffin said and I grimaced. “Let’s get all the soldiers into the main house, and start on watches. I would like to assess the Alpha myself as well.” It hardly took any time to weave my own warriors into the existing ones here at Lotus Moon. The Lotus Moon warriors were well-trained, and mine were adaptable. It was easy and painless, nearly shockingly so. Griffin then began leading Agnes and I to the far end of the main pack house, where the medical bay was located. I had left Kenzo behind to monitor the warriors and to keep someone in charge while we tended to the Alpha here. As we walked down the hall, the unmistakable scent of vanilla and lavender hit me. It was warm, inviting, and intoxicating. I began following the scent on instinct, overtaking Griffin who was leading us. I could feel more than hear Griffin’s shocked protests behind me, but I didn’t care. I entered a room that held an unconscious, but beautiful woman. She was in her mid-twenties at most, and had hair so blonde it was nearly white against her fair skin. She was radiant, although she looked ill. Another thing I knew the second I laid my eyes on her was that she was my mate. I ran to her and picked up her limp hand in both of mine. The mating bond sparked along my skin, leaving goose flesh in its wake. I thought in all my 29 years of not finding her, that maybe I just hadn’t been gifted a mate. I see I was mistaken. I pressed my brow to hers, and willed her to wake up. I heard footsteps enter the room, and I looked to see a shocked Griffin and Agnes. Although Agnes gave me a knowing look, which was contrary to Griffin’s confused one. “Your majesty, this is our Alpha, Athena.” Griffin said, nearly breathless, obviously uncomfortable having me this close to her. I had to fight my very instincts to challenge him right now for even daring to be in the same room with her. I had to remember that he was my mate’s chosen Beta. “Athena.” I tested the name on my lips, and it felt right. “Your majesty, I know congratulations are in order, but I think you may want me to check her, I think the poison is working its way through.” Agnes said, her soft brown eyes giving me a knowing look. I nodded, and stepped away from my mate, although every instinct was telling me otherwise. “I see our Alpha has found her mate.” A small blonde said breathlessly from the entrance to the room. “Sophia, do you mean….?” Griffin asked, trailing off. Sophia, whose name I recognized to be the healer, nodded. “Your majesty, is this true?” Griffin asked, and I nodded. “Yes, Alpha Athena is my mate.” I said, feeling how right the words felt. “Griffin?” A small voice croaked from the bed, and I turned instantly to see the most beautiful piercing blue eyes of my mate staring up from the bed.
