Chapter 3 He felt the furry nudge to his elbow and without thinking, without opening his eyes, he took his left hand and rubbed the back of Casper’s neck. Xavier threw his right arm over and felt the empty space next to him. He opened his eyes slowly. Sunlight lit up the outline of the curtains. Jake must have drawn them shut. He smelled coffee brewing and noise out in the kitchen. He could hear Jake’s voice now, muffled because of the door but loud enough for him to hear his voice getting higher.
