“Yes, commander.” Rian, the large man with the long rifle who had been kneeling in front of Archer, stood up.
Rian glanced at the soldiers spread out to cover the exits and entrances. After confirming their position, he gave directions: “Kill all those who resist in this place.” He ensured they received the order, then turned his gaze to Demelza, who was looking at him.
“In the corner of this room, at two o'clock, two people are in charge of this auction house. kill them first.” Demelza had been holding back her resentment towards those people, but she couldn't just point the barrel and shoot because she was guarding Edith. She recognized that Edith might feel safer with her if she didn't join the violence in that place.
Rian listened to the order well and then aimed in that direction just as Demelza stretched her arms to embrace Edith in her arms because once Rian's shot was released, the chaos would follow immediately.
He stared with his sharp eyes. “Are those the ones hiding like rats over there? That guy in the shiny, tacky-looking black suit and that guy with the bow tie who looks like a pervert?” Rian confirmed his second warm-up target.
“Yes, they are.” Dmelza held Edith tightly with one hand.
After the confirmation, Rian pulled the trigger, one... two... The two shots hit their targets and made them die on the spot with a shot right in their skulls.
The gunshots that sounded strong in Edith's ears made the woman flinch, her body reacting in horrified. Demelza tried to calm her down by patting her shoulder lightly.
The sounds of gunfire grew louder in the room one after another; the people who were trying to secure the three families tried to fight back in vain because those who were armed with baseball bats and other battering rams were no match for the rifles carried by the trained soldiers who targeted them precisely.
The trained soldiers knew the proper protective distance for Archer and their camp; therefore, when the opponent's distance was close, they did not bother to waste their ammunition; they kicked or slammed their barrels into the opponent's vitals. But others who measured in terms of efficiency and did not want to let anyone escape from there were ready to shoot straight at them and make the bodies fall lifeless.
Panic took over the feelings of the three of them. They looked around the place with fear. Every time a gunshot rang out, they felt the joints in their bodies weaken, their chests ached with fear, and they couldn't breathe. Their anxiety grew until finally, Aston, who could not bear the stress, dropped his body to his knees. “Stop it, Archer... Please stop.” He bowed his head in front of Archer and begged.
Death flashed before his eyes, and he kept imagining if the gun pierced his body and made him lie down full of blood and then no longer able to continue his life. “I plead guilty; forgive me, Archer. I... I didn't intend to get into this game. It was all Darren's insistence, and Jack told me to go along with it.”
“What do you mean?” Jack was dumbfounded at being suddenly blamed.
Not only did Aston want to be free from the death that was approaching them inch by inch, but his whole body also reacted with cold sweat, hoping to get away from that place immediately and no longer be involved.
“Damn you, Aston, after what I did, you sold my name just to save you!” He was really unhappy. He then pulled his collar and pushed Aston down there.
William stared at them with his nervousness and fear of the situation. His responses no longer seemed to work normally, as so many urges of emotions mixed within him, making him end up just standing there in fear.
Jack, who knew a split had occurred between them, then pointed at Aston. “Just so you know, Archer, this son of a b***h is the one who wants your sister the most after Darren, but he's just hiding his attitude because he knows Darren will finish him off if he reveals his interest in Edith.” He gave Aston a baleful glance, smiling sarcastically. “But he's worse than Darren; if Darren is the Beast, then Aston is the true devil because not a day goes by without him thinking about your sister with his crap imagination that he keeps sharing.”
Hearing that, Archer took over Demelza's rifle with a lightning-fast movement and shot Aston dead on the spot. He burned with emotion when he found out that his sister became the wild fantasy of a crazy man in front of his eyes; along with that confession, he also heard Edith's cries, which were so sad that his sister felt abused again, and Archer became very angry.
Jack gasped. He looked at the completely lifeless Aston in front of him. "Archer... Arc..." He mumbled the name with a ragged breath like he was losing oxygen; his mouth felt sluggish, and his stomach became nauseous.
Meanwhile, Archer drew his rifle again. “Then what other sins do you want to confess in front of me? You may as well say it now because maybe after what happened, God will still forgive you for your regrets.”
Jack closed his mouth tightly. He quickly realized the situation and immediately looked at Archer with a pleading face. “I... I didn't do anything wrong. My only mistake was joining them. Just ask Edith over there. I even avoided my eyes from seeing her because I thought this was a crazy idea they had.” He spoke hurriedly.
Archer snorted. He averted his eyes from Jack. Jack was his friend in the past, and he knew what that bastard's ambition for power was like, so maybe Edith wasn't the target, but the death of his parents must have involved him and his ambitious family. “Finish the others. Finish them all with no one left.” He said that to Rian.
“Archer! Archer!” Jack called out frantically but was ignored.
After that, he immediately faced a shot from Rian's long barrel, which, without stalling, instantly finished him off and then continued on William, who was his last target.
Archer approached Edith and held her shoulders, trying to stop her low, soft cries. “You're okay now; I'm here to protect you, " he assured her.
Edith then straightened her head and looked at Archer with her reddened eyes. “Archer, we better get out of here. This place is no longer safe for us because their families will target us for their deaths.” She held Archer's arm firmly and fearfully.
But Archer looked at him with a cold look. “I won't leave an inch of this city until I've managed to eliminate their entire family, Edith. Until they are all dead and our parents' deaths are avenged, I will not stop.”
Edith looked at him with a troubled gaze. Their parents' death was a grudge for her, but she was also afraid of the danger that would threaten them. It wasn't death that she wanted to avoid, but the things that tormented her worse than death, like the one she was currently facing, were what made her unable to face it.
Recalling what they had faced, Edith then thought of what they might be targeted for afterward. Her eyeballs widened at the realization. Then, her hand pulled hard on Archer's arm. “Archer, you remember Callie Wood, the woman you had a scandal with? She gave birth to a pair of twins, and they are your children.” After saying that, Edith's body slumped. She lost consciousness and was caught quickly by Archer, who was surprised to hear the news.
