“Archer!” Edith called his name in a full cry; she tried to reach out to him, trying to escape Darren’s choke hold.
Everyone who came to the auction house looked back, checked the source of the loud banging sound, and found Archer standing alone.
“Who is he?” A woman with a peacock face mask stared familiarly at him.
Then, the man beside her joined in trying to recognize him; he frowned. “I think I’ve seen him and know who he is.”
“Isn’t he Archer Moore?” Another guest who was there called out the name.
“That’s right, it’s Archer Moore!” Another voice at the end of the line that saw his face most clearly agreed. “He’s the man who was involved in a scandal with the Woods family’s son five years ago.”
The rumors became increasingly boisterous there, overlapping voices welcoming the eccentric Archer’s arrival. “How did he get here?”
That question was on Darren’s mind. He and the other members had ensured the security of the auction house by not letting anyone in without permission.
Although his arrival was uninvited and unplanned, Darren did not consider it a big deal. He smiled and would gladly welcome him. “Look at your brother,” he whispered next to Edith’s ear, who winced in disgust in his arms. He came to see what the destruction of his family looks like.” Darren balanced his head beside Edith, glancing at her and Archer in turn.
Edith clenched her jaw, her hateful gaze glancing at Darren. “Archer will kill you, Dareen.” She took a brave stand for a tense moment because Archer had arrived.
Hearing Edith’s arrogance, which was always a problem, he pulled Edith’s front hair until she screamed and made her head back.
“Hands off, you bastards!” Archer shouted as he continued to walk closer to them.
Darren smiled smugly at Archer, who immediately reacted after seeing his sister. “I doubt it. It’s probably your brother who won’t survive.” He was full of confidence in Edith’s ears.
While Edith looked tense and panicked, she then remembered her father and mother who died in front of her; this time, she panicked that it would also happen to Archer. Edith then screamed hysterically.
Archer looked up from where he stood, staring straight in front of Edith, who Darren was holding back with the appearance of her body wearing clothes that really humiliated her. That piece of cloth didn’t look any better than the clothes of a tramp begging on the street. His heart burned with anger seeing his sister humiliated in such a humiliating way.
Archer then looked at Darren with his fiery eyes. “You will die by my hands today.” He suppressed the sentence furiously while clenching his hands into fists.
Archer calculates his actions to release Edith from his crouch, and the people behind them begin to smile at his arrogant-sounding remark.
“What did he say? He thinks he has a higher status now?”
“Perhaps five years of living in exile kept him in the dark about what happened to his family.” A chuckle followed after that.
Then, some even started taking out their money or car keys to bet. “I’m sure he won’t be able to save her.”
“I bet he’ll die in this fight that he can’t possibly win.” The foreign man sitting on the guest bench in the front corner also took out the keys to the Ford Mustang he had brought there.
Then, their gamble began. Edith quietly took Archer’s lead, and he was released. Archer kicked Darren in the shoulder as Edith ran towards him, making him slide backward. The kick was painful, making Darren’s body seem immobilized for some time.
Archer turned his body around. He walked over to Edith, taking off the army jacket he was wearing and putting it on Edith, who was sobbing, trying to hold back her tears.
Seeing his sister still trying to be strong after what she had been through and not immediately breaking down in tears into his arms hurt his heart even more. Archer hardened his jaw. He zipped up the jacket without saying much.
“Archer, watch your back!” Edith suddenly shouted when she saw Darren approaching from behind Archer’s back.
The man was holding a golf club that had been one of the auction items and was now swinging it towards Archer’s head.
Archer turned around, dodging the stick swiftly after he had first pushed the hysterical Edith backward.
Failing to hit him, Darren swung his stick again with full force and targeted him. “You will die today; I will make you die, Archer!” He shouted at the top of his lungs, and the stick almost hit Archer. He made a hole in the podium floor where Archer’s feet stood.
Darren smiled madly at him. He found the situation very amusing. Edith’s hysterical screams and the other voices commenting tensely made him feel energized. “I’ll give you a chance.” He engaged Darren in conversation. I might forgive you if you kneel and kiss my feet, then give me your sister.”
Archer turned his head; he looked again at Edith. This time, more clearly, he noticed his sister’s face full of bruises, with puffy eyes looking so sad as well as humiliated. The appearance made him angry, and he clenched his hands tightly till the veins in his hands tightened and popped. He vowed to finish her off, the guilt of having shown up too late to protect her becoming the fuel that pumped his rage.
“You have to think rationally, Archer.” He chuckled as he spoke. “Don’t let you end up like your mum and dad, dying in vain without knowing what happened. It’s better if you....”
In Archer’s ears, Darren’s voice became faint after that, and so did the sound of people laughing and mocking his family. The only thing that was heard and tormented him was the sound of Edith’s hysterical cries when her parents were talked about again; those cries became a burden on Archer's heart, which then pushed his body to move forward and hit Darren.
“You will die paying for everything you’ve done to my family!” He lifted Darren’s body with one hand, then hit him again.
Darren was knocked down far away, and the sound of the auction house visitors screaming was loud and chaotic. He ignored it, he continued to move forward. Even when Darren hit him with the stick, his body did not falter at all; his anger made him immune, and he did not feel the pain.
The stick Darren was holding was pointing at him like a sword, but not in a bold position because Darren was even shaking holding the stick. “f**k you!” His shout was no longer in tune with his efforts and no longer sounded arrogant. “You won’t be able to fight me Archer!”
Archer shook his head with a face that was flatter and colder than ice. “You shouldn’t be playing with my family when I’m away from them to protect you and the other bastards from the war!” He exclaimed and then kicked Darren in the head.
Darren’s head, which was hit by the kick, seemed heavier than the ball as his body swayed with the weight of the push. Blood sprayed out of his mouth. He fell sideways and no longer moved. Darren died on the spot from the hard blow he received to his vitals.
As soon as the body fell, the scream of the woman who saw the bloodied apparition could be heard breaking out in a high tone, making the whole room panic and want to scatter away from there.
Archer turned around. He looked at the other three remaining big family members and looked at him from there sharply. “I will make the same end for you.” And they seem to stand as a stone from their place.
A group of people in military dress entered at that time. They exchanged glances with Archer.
“Clear this place except for the three people there. Make sure they stay there.” He gave directions to Demelza, who came to him and approached Edith. “And make sure Edith is safe. Get her out of here.”
Demelza nodded his head. “Yes, commander.” She held Edith’s shoulder.
But Edith held her back. She went to Archer. “Then what about you? What are you going to do here?”
"I will make them pay for what they have done to you, Mum and Dad, and me.” He was unflinching, determined to finish them off. “Take her.” Archer gave another order, and Demelza immediately obeyed.
He led Edith out of the room, along with the other guests, who exited in a panic at Archer’s subordinates. The three people looked at Archer emotionally but still tried to remain calm and unaffected.
The youngest of them exchanged glances with the manager of the place, who temporarily avoided and tried to contact the additional security out there because surely the reason why the security in the house did not come had something to do with Archer’s people coming, Archer must have paralyzed the security in the place.
“What are you waiting for?! Quickly call the men to kill him!” One of them shouted orders to the pursuer.
Then, shortly after, approximately one hundred people dressed in black entered and surrounded Archer, and the three people standing still in that place grinned at the sight of Archer about to perish.
