My feet paced up and down the pebbled shielded pathway. Towers of rose bushes stood alongside the path, sheltering me from nosy eyes. The pack warriors did make their rounds every now and then, but the dark night helped keep me hidden. As I stood there in complete edginess, my last words to Ilona replayed in my head.
“If you trust me, meet me in the garden at midnight.”
Deep down, my reasoning convinced me that she wouldn’t turn up. Especially after hearing of my true identity and feeling betrayed. It was never my intention to keep her in the dark, but it was easier that way. Still, I couldn’t leave her without explaining myself. So, in the heat of the moment, I offered her an opportunity to hear me out.
“She will come,” Kai assured me, but even he looked unconvinced.
