"Princess," my father's voice broke through the haze. I had been sitting on a foggy beach for what seemed like ages.
"Poppa?" I called out, my voice echoing back to me. I stood and spun around, looking for a shape in the fog.
"Princess!" My father's voice sounded urgent now.
"Princess!"
I sat up in the bed with sweat running down my face. It took me a moment to figure out where I was. I was in the room. In Drake.
I rubbed my face. The room was dark and I could see the stars out of the window. I didn't remember the trip to the bedroom. The only thing I remembered was the first bite of the steak.
I took a deep breath and rolled out of the bed. I stumbled as my head spun.
What happened?
I was still on that ridiculous dress that the woman had given me. I made it to the door and leaned against the cool wood for a moment before pulling it open.
I needed to talk to Felix. I didn't know why exactly. But it was urgent. A bad urgent.
I started down the hallway. They didn't show me where his room was but they had walked this way. I passed door after door with my face forward. There were candles that led the way until I reached a turn.
That's when I started hearing voices.
"What should we do with him?" I heard a gruff voice say. I peered around the corner and had to hold in a gasp.
Felix was on his knees and two large guards were holding his arms. Half of his dark hair was matted with blood and there was red on the side of his face. His glare was at the man that stood ahead of him. Felix's sword was in the man's hand and he was holding it to Felix's neck.
"After all, he did say he just needed the girl," the man said. I took a step forward before a hand wrapped around my mouth. I felt the sharp point of a knife on my side.
"You can't save him," a harsh voice whispered in my ear.
I watched in horror as the man raised the sword. Felix's eyes widened in terror as the man struck down.
"Enough!" The sword was hit out of the man's hands before it could connect with Felix's neck.
A hooded man stepped forward and kneeled beside Felix. He cupped his chin in his hand and threw his head back with a laugh.
"I knew you'd come to me," horror hit me like a carriage as I realized who that was. It was the warlock. The warlock...
I struggled forward but whoever was pressed the blade harder into my side.
"She's here too," the warlock laughed, "I can smell her."
"Don't you touch her!" Felix yelled.
"Sporting a little crush, are we?" The warlock laughed, "don't worry, I won't tell."
The warlock stood and took a couple steps back from him.
"What do you want us to do with him?" The guards asked.
"I'll deal with him," he said as he pulled something out of his cloak. It was a large amulet. It was a gold circle with five pointed star encircling a red stone, "you arrange a meeting with DeNeigh. We have much to discuss."
"I'll deal with you," he said as he touched his forehead. Felix's eyes widened as he let out a gasp.
"Amasta Carte Volni," the warlock whispered over and over again. Felix's cheeks sucked in and his breath left his throat. A blackness spread across his body until his body looked like a shadow.
"Amasta Carte Volni," the warlock whispered one last time until Felix's body lifted up like a pillar of smoke and swirled into the amulet.
Felix was gone. Just like that. Just from some magic words...
"Shh..." The voice said from behind me. I was dragged away as tears slid down my cheeks.
