"You're wearing that to your dinner with the king?" The woman said after noticing what I was wearing. I shrugged and glanced down at my worn breeches as white shirt. They were all I had...that and the other pair that matched them perfectly.
"You dragon riders are hopeless," she muttered as she grabbed my arm and led me down a hallway I've never been down. We entered a room that was large and spacious. There were, however, shelves of fabric and dress hanging up along the walls. I stopped in my tracks. Carmen would love this.
"Over here," the lady led me toward a simple rack that held simple dresses to my relief. She looked at them all before pulling out an olive green dress.
"No," I stated.
"Yes," she insisted and she gave it to me, "you better come out with it on."
I sighed as she shut the door behind her. I frowned down at the dress in my hands. I have never liked dresses. Carmen said it was because I didn't live with a woman until I was ten. It used to be just me and poppa...
I opened the door holding my old clothes. The woman seemed pleased as she took them from me before leading me to the dining area. It was a large room with walls of stories. Scenes of the great wars of the past were carved into the stone walls. There was large fireplace in the corner and a long table in the center. DeNeigh and Felix were already sitting. Felix glanced up at me and did a double take. DeNeigh simply smiled and waved me forward. DeNeigh sat at the foot of the table and I sat across from Felix.
"So nice of you to join us," DeNeigh gave a clap and servants I hadn't noticed came forward. Covered plates were placed in front of us as were cups full of red wine. I grabbed the cup and looked down at the red liquid. Red wine was a drink of luxury. I've never had it before. We never even sold it at the inn.
"After you," DeNeigh said and we lifted the cover off the plate. The smell of the steak and potatoes were intoxicating. I took a deep breath and I glanced up at Felix who was just about liking his lips.
"Eat!" DeNeigh said with a laugh and we dug in. We didn't pay no mind that he didn't open his own. We paid no mind to his eyes on us as we ate. Nor did we see the hooded figure lurking just beyond our sight.
“You’re wearing a dress,” Felix said, leaning over toward me.
“Yes,” I groaned, “it was not my idea.”
“You look good in it,” he said with a small smile before it slowly faded, “not that you don’t look good in your other clothes.”
“Thank you,” I chuckled, hiding my blush behind a tankard.
