Investigating the incident III

Max isn’t in a rush to know what happened that day. He knows sooner or later Kalina will tell him about everything. For now, he closes his eye again because he still feels his body is exhausted. That is because he spends every single ounce of energy in his body with his last attack against Richard.

On the next day, Max can already sit up on the bed. Since the wound on his neck is already closing up, as long as he didn’t make a significant movement that is causing stinging pain from his right hand, he could be considered to be normal.

Since he spent a lot of time in the healing ward, he is already familiar with it, so he decided to go around and take a walk. After all, the nurse also permitted it. Going out of his room, his attention was immediately directed into the room beside his. He can see people wearing suits and scary expressions. It makes him wondered if he is really inside the hospital and not in a gangster hideout.

However, he soon knows what happened as a man wearing a butler uniform comes out of it. He has seen this man before. He is Giovanni’s butler that accompanied him to the hero’s examination site. He realized who is the person inside the room as the butler also realized that Max is looking at him and giving him a nod.

“Hello.”

“Ah, hello. Is he alright?”

“Yes. Young master is recovering well. You are welcomed to come inside and talk to him.”

Hearing the offer, it might be a good idea to make friends with Giovanni. After all, aside from Giovanni’s potential as an S-rank hero with S-rank speed stats, the connection of the Goldlock family isn’t something to scoff at. However, Max shakes his head after giving it a second thought. He doesn’t want to make friends with someone with ulterior motives, and it would be strange for him to talk to Giovanni since they aren’t even acquaintances.

“Ah, no thanks. I have somewhere to go. Just give my regards to him. I wish him to recuperate well.”

“Thanks for your concern.”

The butler gives a polite 45-degree bow, and then Max also went on his way to stroll around the place. He also realized the incident yesterday is more significant than he initially thought. It can be seen from how the healing rooms on the facilities are almost full. Right now, he decides to wait for his big sister to come and explain things to him.

He didn't need to wait long since Kalina also visited the facility that day. After all, she is also on the way to take the Enforcer of Justice badge. The first thing Kalina did when she saw Max is ruffled his head as she patted him afterward.

Hearing Kalina’s praise, Max can feel his eyes start to blur. After all, getting praised like this as if his parents are praising him makes him tear up somehow.

“No, I’m not little anymore.”

“Okay. So, what do you want to know?”

“I want to hear the full report about yesterday’s incident.”

“Are you sure?”

Max nodded, and Kalina recounts what she learned about the incident.

“So, you’re saying that the people that you caught don’t remember anything about what they have done?”

“Yes, as if they have been hypnotized.”

To be honest, Max doesn’t have any idea of what is happening since he has less experience and knowledge compared to Kalina.

“By the way, big sis. Did he appear?”

Of course, after knowing Max for years, she knows who he is referring to.

“No. There’s no sign of Lindt on yesterday's attack. In fact, only three important members of Evil mastermind show up. The rest, we have identified them, and they are just local villains with C-rank at best. That is why we’re confused as to how they managed to defeat the heroes that participated in the Olympics.”

“Could it be that once they are hypnotized, their power gets increased? Just like I heard how humans could unleash strength exceeding their limit unconsciously. I heard that a weak mother could lift a cupboard in a fire accident to save her child. What if the hypnosis also works the same way?”

Kalina, who heard Max’s hypothesis feels that it is possible. It is a fresh idea and doesn’t seem to be wrong at all.

“Since you have examined their mind and don’t find out something different, how about checking their body? You said that they have C-rank strength at most and the strength they showed earlier exceeded that of A-rank. There should be some kind of trace, whether the body is breaking after performing strength above their limit or something like that.”

Kalina’s eyes then shined after she heard that. After all, the interrogation that she did yesterday didn’t include the physical check. She is only infiltrated their mind, and even when she healed them when they are spazzing, she didn’t check the condition of their body.

“Thank you, little brother, I will try it out later, and we might get to learn something.”

“So, big sis. How about Marie?”

“Ah, I totally forgot about her. Why don’t you give her a call and ask about her condition? After all, I’m not too close with her.”

“I will do that then. I’m also curious as to what happened to her competition. Now again, where’s my phone?”

After searching around and couldn’t find his phone, Max realized that they might be in his room. After all, his costume and all his belonging are there as right now he is wearing the typical patient’s uniform.

“Okay then, little brother. Recuperate well. I’ll revisit you later.”

Kalina then went on her way to take her new badge while Max returned to his room to take his phone.
