Game of tag

The food that Master Tenshi cooks for them is surprisingly delicious. Even Elica, who doesn’t seem to want to take a bite at first, digs in joyfully after looking at the expression shown by the other.

“How’s the food?”

“It’s delicious!”

“It’s even better than the one cooked by three Michelin stars chefs.”

After dinner, everyone cleaned up their plate except for Elica, who just put hers on top of Max’s. They then sat down again around the fire pit and chatted with each other. Not long after, Master Tenshi returned outside from the cabin.

“How about a bit of exercise after dinner? It will help with digestion, so I think you won’t have any objection.”

What can the people say when Master Tenshi already decided to do it the moment he asked them?

They also realized that Master Tenshi brought back some things with him when he comes out from the cabin. It is undoubtedly something that he has prepared for their training. It was the balloon from earlier and some bracelets.

“How about playing some basic game of tag? Of course, it will be different from your usual tag. First of all, you guys should wear this bracelet.”

Master Tenshi then gives out a bracelet for everyone. The bracelet is made from metal, and there is a unique glass on it, making it trendy with intricate design.

“Since everyone has taken the bracelet, take this balloon with you too.”

The balloon this time isn’t inflated but floating in the air behind them, just like the one they have at the newcomer competition and tied to them.

“The goal of this game is to destroy the opponent’s balloon. You can also use your ability. However, there is a limit to the amount of energy that you could use. If you use your energy past the limit allowed by the bracelet, it will ring an alarm, and you will be out immediately. If your attack managed to blew up the opposition’s balloon while the bracelet rings, your attack will be nullified.”

The rules are pretty simple, blew up the enemy’s balloon while your energy couldn’t get past a specific limit.

“You are given five minutes to familiarize yourself with the amount of energy that you can use.”

After that, each and every one of them spread out in an open space not far from the fire pit. They tried to test the limit of the energy that they can use.

“Okay, I’ll test out by launching a wind bullet.”

Max tried to summon the wind bullet. He was performing as usual by invoking a two-finger wide wind bullet. However, before even he finished gathering the wind bullet, the bracelet let out an ear-piercing sound.

“Ouch! What was that?”

The same phenomenon didn’t happen only to Max. All the people in the area also faced the same issues.

“What is this? I am only summoning my fire fist. Is this even over the limit?”

“I couldn’t even finish my transformation before the bracelet rings. How am I supposed to fight like this?”

Not only Max, everyone else is facing the same issue. Even Elica, who isn’t saying anything, is putting up a frown on her beautiful face. Everyone is experiencing the same thing with Max. The moment they tried to perform an ability, the bracelet immediately rings out. With six bracelet rings simultaneously, it creates not a small amount of noise.

Max also fell into a frown before he wanted to try again.

“If two-finger wide wind bullet is above the limit of energy that I can use, how about I use one-finger wide?”

Max now tried to summon a smaller wind bullet, which is one-finger wide. This time, the bracelet didn’t let out any noise. Max looked at the wind bullet that he made, and he looked at it with a wry smile. It looked cute and isn’t imposing at all. If he faced an enemy and summoned a bullet this small, they will laugh at him instead.

As Max launches the wind bullet forward, the power that he expects isn’t delivered. It has trouble piercing through the branch of a tree in front of him. However, he needs to deal with it since it is within the limit allowed by the bracelet and its purpose is to blow up the opposition’s balloon. Not a battle to defeat them head-on or subduing the enemy.

After the five minutes is up, all six of them gathered in place with Master Tenshi leading them.

“Alright, we’ll divide the team into two teams of three people. Max, Elica, and Kieran are in one team. Giovanni, Iki and Alan in the other.”

After that, they went to their respective side, and with a signal from Master Tenshi, the balloon tag game is started. As the bracelet limits the energy they can spend in this game, they need to think more thoroughly before executing a move.

A long-range attack wasn’t really favourable in this game, and the other party is better in close-range combat. Realizing their advantage, Giovanni led Iki and Alan to get close to Max’s team. Kieran is heading towards Alan while Max is aiming for Giovanni. As for Iki, they leave him to Elica, which they expect to suppress him as her ice element have a clear advantage.

Alan, as a body manipulation heroes have one of the best martial arts among the group. However, Kieran is not someone to scoff at. The battle between Alan and Kieran is a fierce one since Alan can’t fully transform himself, or the bracelet will ring out.

The frustration shown on Alan’s face showed how much he is affected by the limitation of the bracelet. Every time he wanted to transform, the bracelet always rings. Because of that, Alan and Kieran's battle is at a standstill. Kieran himself hasn’t made any sound element attack since he still has trouble suppressing himself. Just like Alan, every time he wants to use his ability, the bracelet rings out in alarm.

Elica and Iki’s battle, on the other hand, progressing as planned, where Elica took advantage. Iki’s power is limited, and the best he could do is enveloping his palm with fire. Any more than that, and the bracelet will ring. However, every time he wanted to attack Elica with his flaming palm, it is always extinguished by her ice and become a normal punch in the end. Although the amount of ice that Elica can summon is only the size of a small rock, it is enough to block Iki’s flame.
