Energy and result

Max is now filled with confidence since the result of his previous test is quite good. This time, he decided to do his best again. Like the last test, Max tried to fill the glass canister with wind, but somehow it wasn’t filled as fast as it was earlier. No matter how hard Max wanted to do it, the glass canister is only filled slowly, and it wasn’t even filled half.

After struggling for some time, Max can sense that nothing will change no matter how hard he tried, so he decided to give up. Right now, he is feeling embarrassed again because he is bragging so much earlier, yet the result is disappointing.

“Well, based on this test, your energy couldn’t even be considered as D-. Well, don’t be too sad. As I said before, this can always be improved through training. It just means that you need to work harder in the future.”

Hearing Kalina’s word, Max, who is feeling down earlier, decided not to think much about it anymore.

“Big sis, I promise that I will work hard in the future.”

“I trust you. Okay, let’s see your test for today. Power D-.  Speed C. Sensitivity B and lastly, Energy no rank. Your overall score can be considered as D-. To be honest, this is normal considering your age, as the target is to reach a D score by the time you graduate from school, or it means three more years. I believe that when you graduate, you could reach D-rank comfortably and C rank if you really did your best.”

Max is thinking about it and realizes that his condition isn’t that bad. Although he trained on his own and the training seemed to be full of nonsense, at least it wasn’t completely useless. Max, however being reminded of something.

“Then, can I ask how’s Yuna's result?”

“Oh, since you’re interested in her, I can naturally tell you, her score.”

 “I’m not interested in her. I’m only curious at her result.”

“Yuna’s power is C. Speed D+. Sensitivity B-. Energy C+. Her overall result can be said to be at the C rank, but the association thinks that it would be too much to give her a C-rank because of her age, so she ended up in D-rank.”

Max is shocked after the revelation since it shows just how much talented Yuna is. It also reminded him just how lucky he is to be able to escape from Yann and Bonio. After looking at his stats above the paper, he knows that it was only because of his sensitivity and luck that he managed to survive. It also reminds him never to look down at anyone. What if someday someone appeared with D-rank for every stat but a dazzling A-rank for power alone? The slow preparation and slow-moving projectile will be deadly upon contact.

For him to defeat Bonio and Yann, it was the exact opposite concept as his attack is fast to launch, but there’s not much punch about it. Once again, he needs to remind himself that it was only by luck, he managed to get both of them off guard.

Actually, Kalina wanted to tell Max that another thing that might become his weapon is his battle sense. To be able to think quickly in that kind of situation isn’t doable by anyone. However, since battle sense isn’t influencing someone’s rank, so it is often being overlooked.

“Max, I also want to tell you about something.”

“What is it, big sis Kalina?”

“It is about Lindt and Vanya.”

“Don’t worry, big sis. I have decided that I won’t look around for them anymore.”

“Yes, it is good that you have put your revenge on hold. I just want you to know that both of them are categorized as S-rank. That is why even if you tried your best to find information about them, you would be barely able to find it.”

“Ah, so that’s why we are not able to find anything about them in the database.”

“Yes. It is such a reckless idea for both of you trying to find them. I also need to tell you that they are not the people that you might defeat just because of pure luck. Although Bonio and Yann is a B-rank criminal, they are only goons and pawns of the Evil Mastermind. Their real power is so scary that despite the United Heroes association is consisting of many heroes; we haven’t been able to take them down.”

Max really didn’t think too much when he first decided to launch his revenge but looking back at it; he can only laugh at his stupid action. Luckily, he managed to survive. Just two of the weakest goons from the Evil Mastermind is able to give him nightmare and trauma, almost causing him to go crazy.

“Okay, since we have known your ranks, now we need to write up a training plan for you. Do you have any questions before we start?”

“Oh, actually, I have one. Why is it that the result is saying that I have no power at the appraisal test?”

Kalina didn’t need a lot of time to think since it is already a common answer now.

“You see, although the appraisal result is almost perfect, it is not without flaw. Firstly, it is not guaranteed that every person will awaken their power on their fifth birthday. Some could awaken their power earlier or even later. Secondly, if your superpower is unusual, like me, for example, the elemental orb couldn’t really grasp your power.”

“Then, isn’t this bad? Won’t there be a lot of children like me?”

“That is why, since eight years ago, there has been a lot of revision made. Children can make another appraisal attempt when they are seven years old and lastly at ten years old. If at ten years old there is really no reaction, then there’s no other way but to give up.”

If only this kind of policy is implemented when Max is still small, he won’t be rushing to the United Heroes headquarters for appraisal, and maybe his parents will still be alive.

“So, what happened to those with an unusual superpower?”

“At first, the appraisal test consists of two-stage with the elemental orb, outside or manifestation superpower and inside or strengthening superpower. However, the variety of superpowers doesn’t end there, so we’re having a third stage examination now where we’re giving the test taker an energy orb and see whether there’s a reaction or not. If there is, we will slowly work together to discover the superpower.”

Clearly, the United Heroes association has learned much, and they keep improving themselves. If this kind of test is the one that is implemented when Max is getting his appraisal, maybe his parents… Max then can’t think anymore, only a series of what-if running inside his mind.
