Final Round

Today is the big day for Max. He is reaching the final stage, and he will be facing Giovanni. He couldn’t stop his excitement. For today's match, win or lose doesn’t matter anymore for Max. he only wants to test himself against one of the strongest peers that he could find.

“Ah, my body is very refreshed. As I thought, the healing and relaxing service provided by big sis is way better than the medical pods.”

Getting out of his bed, Max is full of energy. Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he smiled before taking a shower. Before heading out of his apartment, he looked up at the bright sky.

“Mom, Dad, wish me luck today. I will be facing one of the strongest heroes in D-rank. I hope that you will look at me from heaven and feels proud. I’m leaving now.”

Arriving at the stadium, Max can see a lot of people surging in inside to the arena. Although there is only one match today, this is the center of everyone’s attention. Max is facing Giovanni in the hot newcomer competition final.

“Today, I think I would get a windfall again.”

“Do you really think that Air hero will win against Child of Light?”

“I don’t know. However, I was already profiting from him yesterday. Even if I lost, it is still a profit.”

As the people sit and waiting for the match to start, Max is already in the waiting room. He is now only waiting for the match to begin while watching the countdown. On-screen, once again, Elrisa’s hourglass body is displayed as she becomes the master of ceremony.

“Everyone, are you excited for today’s match?”

A loud cheer from the audience replies to Elrisa’s question.

“Today’s final is between Child of Light, who has been the favorites to win the hot newcomer competition, and Air hero, the strongest dark horse that keeps on defying everyone’s prediction. Will Child of Light win today’s match without any problem? Or will Air Hero show everyone another surprise and win this match?”

Elrisa is very good at enticing the audience’s interest as they are engrossed in her commentary.

“Without further ado, please welcome the finalist for today’s match! From the east entrance, Child of light.”

As Giovanni stepped inside the arena, the screen showed his stats, records, and some replay of his match, along with his display of strength. It seemed that each finalist has their own promotional video to introduce themselves to the public.

It displayed the move that he shows so far, starting from his light-speed movement and light rays that he often performed. Giovanni’s stats of Speed S-rank is also highlighted as it is very eye-catching and his strongest forte so far.

“From the west entrance, let’s welcome the dark horse, Air hero!”

As Max entered the arena, he saw the screen is showing some replay of his match and his meager all D-rank stats on his hero license. He, however, doesn’t feel embarrassed at all as he looked at his stats. He is more excited to see the screen where his ability is shown and the moment he defeated all the strong favorites. His battle starting with Chloe, Linda, Iki, Kieran, and finally, Elica, shows how hard he has struggled to reach the final.

Although it seemed that he is lucky for other people, he knows himself the best that he is always doing his best to finally reached this point. Even if he lost in the final right now, he doesn’t mind at all. After all, he has given it his all. He just doesn’t want to surrender without a fight, and that is why he wanted to fight to the end against Giovanni.

Right now, he still doesn’t have any idea on how to defeat Giovanni. He saw the screen on Giovanni's end, which shows his light-speed movement, and realizes that he doesn’t have any measure to counter it.

He believes that his speed is way below Giovanni, and Giovanni could take him out in one move.

“Should I raise a wall made of wind? No, flamemancer has already shown it before, and it is futile. I couldn’t go on a rampage like Beastboy. However, I think that Beastboy’s fight shown the biggest chance of defeating Giovanni. Is it because he could fight at around the same speed? Wait, I think big sis gave me some hint last night.”

As Max is walking towards the middle of the arena, his thoughts are drifting somewhere else. Last night, as Kalina promised, she is helping Max to recover. Inside the office’s living area, Kalina summoned a blue-colored plant that is as big as a car. The blue-colored plants create a water bubble on which Max gets inside to have himself healed by the rejuvenating power of the plants.

Max is always amazed at how unique Kalina’s ability is. The plants that she could always summon varied and have lots of uses. Although she never shows her destructive side so far, Max knows that she is more than capable of doing that since she always summoned plants that Max couldn't defeat when he is training.

Max remembers the conversation that they had last night.

“Big sis, do you think I have a chance to defeat Giovanni?”

“Why? Are you not confident? Usually, you are not like this. What happens to the brat that always bragged about being an S-rank hero?”

“Haha, big sis. It’s not like that. I just acknowledge Giovanni’s speed to be something that I couldn’t match right now.”

“Well, you need to remember one thing. There’s no invincible power. Although Giovanni’s speed is of that S-rank, what about his other stats? Do you think a fighter jet can fly fast using gasoline?”

Marie was in the office, and she immediately caught on by what Kalina means, but it seemed that Max is still oblivious as a big question mark is still displayed on his face. Kalina, however, doesn't tell him anything else since it was his task to find a way for himself to win.
