End Of School Surprise

874 Words
It was finally the final two days of school and I couldn't have been more happier about it. I just turned sixteen a few months ago, and I was going for my drivers license the next day. As I was getting ready to head out the door, mom stopped me "Your father and I are taking you out for supper tonight, we want to talk to you". she said giving me a quick hug "Okay, I'll be home right after school." I replied. Tomorrow is the last day, and I'm going for my drivers test. Things were looking up. But I still felt this hollow numb feeling inside. Julie and Isaac were still there, and had no problem making there new relationship public, nor cared if I seen any of it. I tried to shrug it off, but it was still fresh and painful. I couldn't stop thinking about what my parents wanted to talk to me about. I know moving was out of the question, as I over heard them arguing over it. My father stood his ground with saying no, he wasn't leaving his job, and he wasn't sending me to another school. He said I had to suck it up. I cried sitting on the staircase, as my parents were in the living room which was next to the stair case having the conversation. "Jim, this is too hard on her" my mom said "I know Audrey but she really needs to let it go, she needs to break through what she's feeling, and start living again, broken hearts, and friendships are a part of life, we all been through it." he replied. " Honey, I know your trying but I can't just stand here and watch our daughter start losing hope, and her interests, have you noticed she stopped going out, doing things she use to love?" she said. "Yeah, I did notice" he replied taking a deep breath. "And you're okay with that?" she said shaking her head. "What do you want me to do? I can't just leave Audrey and she's sure as hell isn't being shipped off to a different school, or move in with relatives". he said now sitting on the side of the couch rubbing the side of his head. " Can you please think of something to make her happy, for both of us" she said placing her hands on his back. That was the end of that conversation. I cried my self to sleep that night. My parents told me the following weekend they were leaving for a work thing, which rarely happened. I didn't question it, nor put any thought into it. They came back early Sunday afternoon, they didn't really talk about the trip. Dad just kept saying he was tired, and mom definitely seemed like something was on her mind, but didn't want to talk so didn't bother asking about it. After school I got home, I changed my clothes into something more dressy for supper. I through on a nice navy blue dress that went just a little bit above the knee cap that had a black belt built into the dress, covered the shoulders and back. My hair was up in a messy bun all day at school so I changed my bun to a cleaner look. I'm not much for makeup, as my mom would tell me it would take away from my natural beauty, I loved mascara though, I have long eyelashes so made my eyes more appealing. My Mother chose the town and country steakhouse to eat at, Dad didn't complain he loved going there. Dad ordered steak, with a baked potato, mom ordered a stir fry, and I went with Spaghetti and meatballs. After we ate, Dad asked "You're probably wondering why we wanted to talk to you?". I look up at the both of them who are looking at each other "Oh god, you guys aren't expecting are you?" I said looking grossed out. my parents both starting laughing "No honey, definitely not" my mom finally said after she managed to stop laughing. "But we did finally come to an agreement" she added. "Oh" I said looking confused. " When we went away for the weekend, it wasn't work related, we went to Wasaga beach, to look at a few places. We got a call yesterday while you were at school, and we got a house." My mother told me with tears in her eyes. I was already crying when she said looking at places. "I can't believe it" I said trying not to cause I scene, I was beyond excited. "But how Dad?" I asked. "Well, your mother will be at the house with you during the week, I will only be home on the weekends, and vacations. It's not that far, but I also don't want to travel an hour and a half to and from work everyday and before you ask, I will be staying with my sister" he replied. "Thank you Daddy" I said getting up from the table, and giving him the tightest hug. "So, when do we move?" I asked. " Start packing, we will be moving in a few weeks" my mom replied squeezing my hand.
