Phase one begins

1332 Words
With a fake smile on my face, I turned to him. "Hello, Alpha." I gave my best fake smile to him, as I on purpose gave him the most generic and overly polite answer ever. From across the room, I felt Valery and my brother look at me with a curious look on their faces as I never really talked with Darcy in that way. From the very beginning, I always talked to him in a similar way I talk with my brother, never really bothering with the formalities if we were not in situations that would require me to talk in a certain way. So me talking like this was something really out of the ordinary and it made everyone in the room stare at me. Without even looking I could feel Darcy's eyes concentrating on me. I could feel his scorching gaze burning my skin, but I ignored him and refused to look at him nonetheless. At that exact moment, Sam decided to return and I thanked him in my mind because he chose the perfect moment to walk in, to put the last piece of the beginning of my plan in place. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Darcy look up at him as Sam slowly, but surely, made his way to me and sat down next to me, but before he did that he laid a soft kiss to my cheek. "Sorry I took so long, kinda got lost a bit." He said with a light chuckle to his voice. I did my best not to look at Darcy directly, but I still continued to watch him from the corner of my eyes as emotions changed his face. The change was settle and I only noticed because I had been studying his face for years now. It took him a few moments to fully lose complete control on his wolf as it surfaced and that was when I turned and met his eyes full on. At that moment I saw him flash his dark eyes at me and I was sure that he wanted to howl, growl and attack Sam. Good. Just as I expected. This was a good sign. No matter how much Darcy wanted to deny it, his wolf showed the truth, that he did really care and it was a clear sign that my plan was working. The moment Darcy's eyes turned back human I made an obvious turn to Sam, grabbing his hand in an adoring way with a big smile on my face. "Well... next time I help you." I gave him a wink while my voice had a promise in it that everyone else in the room understood as a promise for something a lot naughtier than just a simple guide around the house. Even without looking, I could feel Darcy boiling with anger and annoyance, but none of that was visible to the outside, so I decided to push him just a bit further. "Oh and I would like you to meet Alpha Darcy, he is visiting my brother on pack business." On purpose I made it sound that he was nothing more than just a neighboring pack alpha who was here just for business. I ignored any and all other connections to him, knowing full well how much it would hurt him and anger him. There is no mistaking how much his wolf would hate the disrespect and ignore it would feel when his destined mate did not acknowledge him. Sam gave me a soft smile and turned to Darcy with a respectful bow. "Alpha, it's an honour to meet you." This is the reason why I knew Sam was perfect for this. He is so sweet and respectful, but still with a sharp enough spine to make everyone believe that there is something between us, but he was not stupid enough to get killed in the process. There is no way that I would want anyone to get physically hurt here, because even right now we are threading a very thin line that can get more then one person really hurt here. To put things simply there is no guessing what Darcy or more precisely Darcy's wolf will do. Messing with someone's destined mate is a dangerous game, especially when dealing with a wolf that has a history of violence and feral behaviour. And Darcy has a history like that. Valery never really talked about what happened in the short time that they were mated, but the mark Darcy left on her neck spoke volumes. The scary-looking scar now has faded and is nothing more than a small shadow on her skin that is covered with the mark my brother left on her neck that Valery wears with love and appreciation. Over the years, I noticed that she chose clothing that drew attention to the mark, making the centre of her outfit. I know that she is doing it for herself mostly, but at the same time, I know she does it because it drives my brother crazy with lust and pride seeing it there. So playing this game with Darcy... is very risky. I knew that one wrong move and the consequences would be dire, but I was desperate and this would be my last attempt. At this point I have no other way to make him see me... to see us... So I am prepared to take the risk if it means that I get him at the end. Tension filled the room as Valery and Colin noticed as well that Darcy was fighting for control. A moment later he gave Sam a short nod as he slowly walked around the table and sat on the other side next to Valery. Without another word, she placed a hand on his shoulder the moment he sat down. Darcy turned to her instantly and I saw both of them having a silent conversation with just their eyes. To this day I am still jealous while being amazed at the relationship they have. It was incredibly amazing and weird how their once romantic relationship, which went very badly, you could even say horribly or even tragically, somehow transformed into this amazing and beautiful friendship. Valery says that they were always best friends, that even when they were a couple, they were more like best friends than lovers... not that she really talks about it that much now. There is still a lot of pain in what happened to them and between them, so it is no surprise that she does not really want to reminisce about it too much. But even after all that happened, here they are... so close... It still leaves this bitter taste of jealousy in my mouth, every time I see them interact like this. Valery gave Darcy an encouraging smile as they both turned back to the table. I could a question in Sam's head as he tried to figure out what was going on here, but I just shook my head gently before any questions could leave his mouth. There was no way in hell am I letting him ask any questions about Darcy and Valery, especially with my brother present. It would lead to Sam's not-so-quick death before he could fulfil his purpose. The rest of the dinner went pretty quickly, Darcy stayed silent for the rest of it, with his eyes secretly glued on me and Sam. He was trying to be sneaky about it, but I caught him staring at me more than enough times to be sure that he barely looked at anything else other them me and Sam the whole evening. This means that phase one of my plan was a complete success. Sure I did not feel great hurting him like this, my wolf did not approve of my plan as she wanted to just sit with Darcy, but we already tried it her way and so now it was my turn to make the plan.
