CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

Later that day at Sleepy Forest (Lucy's POV) It was raining hard and the darkness slowly coated the entire forest which made me fretted. It was past six in the evening already and Cria's still not coming back. I wonder where that dude went to. When he kissed me earlier, he immediately ended it and helped me on my feet. He said he must go fix important things and that he'll come back as soon as possible. But it's been freaking half-day yet he's still out there that only Goddess knows where. From peeking behind the curtain of the glass window, I heaved a deep sigh. 'Maybe my breath stink that sends the poor guy away.' I puffed air in my palm, sniffed it, and frowned. 'But it's not so why is that asshat left in a hurry like he's sickened when he kissed me?' I groaned in plight before retreating to the kitchen and continued preparing food for dinner. 'Maybe I'm just overreacting. Maybe Cria is just being a gentleman and doesn't want to take advantage of me. Or maybe... Maybe he has no romantic feelings for me.' Something twitched in my chest as that thoughts attacked me when I was chopping vegetables. 'No.' I shook my head and snapped at myself. 'Get a hold of yourself, Lucy. Whoever he is, whatever he's thinking, just be thankful that he's being nice and is willing to help you in your complicated situation.' I nodded to myself. If not for him, I might be in Hugo Vertillo's hands at that moment. Might be crying a river and being forced to wear a dress for the wedding. I cringed as I remembered the old businessman. I felt dreading the idea of marrying him. Heck! I'd rather die! I thought of my stepmother. Aunt Selene must be extremely enraged at that time. She might be thinking of killing me for running away but for the first time in my life, I made the right decision. She already torments me for how many years. I had enough! My jaw tightened. Those horrible creatures. I wished they stop chasing after me or looking for me. I don't want to go back to the ranch for I have no plan of marrying Mr. Hugo. I want to start living my own life away from them and Cria said that as long as I'm in Sleepy forest, they won't find me. He said, I must stay there until my stepmother and the businessman give up on finding me and I must listen to him. I must follow what he instructed me to do cause I know that Cria only thinks of my safety. He's there to protect me which made me felt secured as I began to relax. With another deep and long sigh, I kicked Aunt Selene and Mr.Hugo out of my mind for they only bring nothing but anxiety. I concentrated on making dinner when a knock on the door startled me. "It's me," a familiar voice outside said which made my heart beat erratically. He's here! I had no idea where the excitement came from but I quickly laid the knife on the countertop. I cleaned my hand with a towel before running out of the kitchen and opened the door for him with a wide smile on my lips. "You're back," I greeted him. "I've told you I'm coming back." The man who's been in my mind for a couple of hours; Cria smiled back at me. He then stepped inside the house, took off his raincoat, and thrown it to the corner. "I'm sorry I was late. I was-" his words were shortly cut when I suddenly tugged his white T-shirt making him almost stumbled upon me. "Hey!" He muttered in puzzlement as I began searching for any sign of stains in his drench clothes. My eyes squinted. Nothing. Not satisfied, I sniffed his neck and his body but there's no unusual perfume that might have mixed his scent. Cria hummed and with amusement in his eyes, he asked, "What are you doing, sweet?" "Nothing!" I chirped, stepped back, and beamed at him. "I made food for dinner. Want to eat with me?" There's no way that I'll tell him I'm checking for evidence that he went out to see his woman, right? That may be the reason it took him hours to come home is that he visited his girlfriend. I remembered he told me he's single but I still want to know if he's telling the truth. But, yeah, I have plans of bombing him with questions about himself tonight so there's no way I won't find that out. He's too mysterious which made me drawn to him more and more so I must at least know even a few details of the man who's poking my curiosity. Maybe if he proves to me that he's worth it then, I might consider his proposal. That is if he still wants me to be his mate. Cria scratched his neck. "I don't know what's running inside of your head, sweet but yeah, I am famished." "Great then let us eat!" I hooked my arms on his and yanked him in the kitchen but suddenly, I halted and faced him. "Anyway, I have a question, sir," I implored and have to look up for he's freaking tall. His hand lifted as he put the strands of my hair that covered my face behind my ear. "What is it?" "Is my breath stink?" That really bothered me and I must know why he suddenly left when he kissed me. Cria gave me an incredulous look before he cupped my cheeks and gave me a quick peck on the lips. "Your breath is addictive and if I don't control myself now, I might have you for dinner instead," he seriously muttered before he spun me around and rested his arm around my shoulder. "Now let's eat or you want me to eat you? You choose, sweet." My whole body went bright red in embarrassment before I replied, "Oh, you're such an ass sometimes!" Cria chuckled. "But you love me." I huffed and rolled my eyes. "Yeah, I love my Alpha." "I am the Alpha." "Shut up! You can't be the Alpha." And that's how our night started. . . . TO BE CONTINUED...
