Chapter 5: Training

-Present- *Daniel POV*     I teleported to Death’s castle and asked to have an audience with him, I know that being a close personal friend of his I could just walk in, but I didn’t like to intrude. The small frail woman from before walked me to the throne room where Death was stalking in angry paces. “Lord Death” I bowed on one knee and greeted him, when he didn’t respond I spoke again, “Lord Death, is everything alright?” I asked.     He looked up as if he had just noticed that I was in the room with him and stopped pacing, “it has been a year since the killings have stopped, even though I am happy no more reapers are being murdered, I am also worried about” he said in a calm tone “why is that? if I may ask” I walked closer to him “the killings stopped when Aaron let out a burst of power the first time he received them, he has let out yet another, I am afraid the killings are connected to him in some way.” So this whole time, he had the same suspicions I did, and this only confirmed it further.         Death turned to look at me suddenly “someone might be here already, possibly spying and waiting to find the source of power” my face paled “but there is a barrier protecting our house and keeping anyone from seeing” I said to him “yes, but that isn’t going to stop the power thrusts from escaping the barrier, just like you and I felt it, someone else might have as well, eventually, they are going to narrow it down to your home, you must have him ready Daniel, if someone takes Aaron, he must learn how to defend himself.” I teleported back home right away, now more than ever I need to keep Aaron safe and have him ready to be a warrior, even though he was still small in age.     When I got back home Gina was teaching Aaron how to use his new power, it had been a long time since the last time I saw her use her powers, I knew she had used them to put out the fire Aaron started last year, but I wasn’t there to experience it. We were both out on a mission last time she used her powers, that was the day she had gotten in an accident, after that she never used her powers again, and here she was, after so many years using them just to teach our son how to use them. Aaron has been a blessing in more ways than just one.     One of the moves she liked to do was spin the water so fast that it became so sharp it could cut through anything, now, she was teaching our almost six year old how to use it himself. Once she had the water at a good speed, she shifted her body out in a forward step and released the spinning water cutting one of our trees right in half. “Woah!” Aaron yelled at the top of his lungs and “that was amazing mom!” he said to her.     I walked closer to them and hugged my wife from behind “I haven’t seen you do that move in years” I said to her, she turned around and smiled at me then planted a kiss on my lips “I didn’t have a reason to use it, and now I do” she responded “gross” I heard Aaron said then turned to look at him, both Gina and I laughed.     “Son, with all of your powers showing up randomly like that, I have to train you harder now more than ever, next time you get another power, it won’t come out as abruptly as these last two did” I said to him “how are we going to do that?” he asked “I’m going to teach you how to control all of the element, and strengthen your body even more, we will train every day.” His eyes lit up with excitement, then he got a little sad.     “What’s wrong?” I asked him, he was always so excited to start training and become strong, “I love training, but I also wanted to hang out with my friend all summer” he said to me “you can still hang out with Damien, just not as much, I need all of your focus on your training, lets head inside there is something I need to talk to you about.” “Is everything alright?” Gina grabbed my hand and asked as we headed inside, “I’ll tell you both inside.”     Once we were seated in the living room I began talking “son, you already know that you’re a special kind of reaper, you must keep your powers hidden from anyone to see, the outburst that have been happening when you receive a new one can be felt by many, but not all. Lord Death believes that you are in danger, you must train as hard as ever incase anything is to happen to you, you will know how to defend yourself” I said with sadness in my voice “I understand” Aaron answered back.     For a little kid, he was super smart, to understand something such as this, not many five year old would be able to. I looked over at Gina who’s eyes started tearing up “go play with your friend son, let him know you’re going to be busy training.” He stood up and ran out of the house excited, once I knew he was out of ear shot I turned to my wife. “Gina?” I called her name “we haven’t had him for too long Daniel, I don’t want to lose him, I don’t want to lose our son” she cried in my arms “I know, I don’t want to lose him either, that’s why we have to get him ready, it’s just a precaution” I said to her.     She pushed away from my arms and wiped her tears away, her face was covered in blood and so was my shirt, she had never cried this much before “there is something you’re not telling me” she finally said. I sighed and looked at her, nervously “I hoped that I never had to discuss this with you, but whoever is killing the reapers is looking for Aaron, I had my suspicions ever since I found him, but today Lord Death confirmed it.” Her crying had completely stopped now, and anger had filled her face. “No one is taking my baby boy from me; they’ll have to go through my dead body.” There was danger in her voice now, she stood up and headed outside of the house, when I followed to see what she was up to, she had started training herself.
