Chapter 6: Powers

*Aaron POV*

    Damien wasn’t very happy that I would be spending more time training, I couldn’t tell him that I was in danger because of my powers, so I just told him that my parents were making me, and I had no choice in the matter. He eventually understood and let the subject go, but not before I promised to hang out with him every chance I got. As I was walking back home Jackie purposefully ran into me and pushed her shoulder against mine as hard as she could, I wasn’t paying attention, so I fell to the ground.

    She scoffed at me “that’s some way to treat your only friend Black” she spat out “what is your problem?” I said getting angry with her “you are my problem” she said back, I ignored her and started to get up so I could be on my way. just as I was getting up she pushed me back down with much greater force. “I didn’t say you could get up” she then proceeded to cross her arms in front of her chest. Why did I ever think that this girl could be my friend, she was a bully and treated me the worst. “Leave me alone!” I yelled at her and ran away from the place. I was angry and heart broken, she didn’t even know me and treated me like I did something wrong to her.

    Everyone was laughing behind me, except for Damien who was just looking over with a sad face to me. I took the long way back home, I was crying, and I didn’t want my parents to see my tears, they would know either way since I was now covered in blood, but still, I wasn’t going to let them know that I was humiliated by a little girl. I jumped through the window in my room and quickly changed and washed my face and my arms before heading back outside. When I made it out, both my parents were training, I smiled as I had never seen my mom so determined to do something, it was good seeing her this way.

    For the next few years, every day my dad and my mom trained me together, Damien accidentally found out about my secret one day and I had to let him in on what was happening and why I had to train so hard. My parents agreed to let him train with us, in school, we became the most advanced students ever to have studied there, and it was all thanks to my parents. Jackie started bullying me more than before, she completely hated me now. Damien got to experience how I got my other powers, and thanks to my dad’s help, when they showed up they didn’t shoot right out of my hands.

    I could now control the wind, earth, fire, water, and lightning. I was also able to change the color of my skin and my eyes. I was able to grow wings out of my back, I learned to teleport when I was ten, and a few other stuff that my parents didn’t know about, only Damien. My parents were also able to have another kid, I was now a big brother to a little girl named Katia. She looked exactly like my mom, except for her eyes, she had one blue eye and one green eye. I loved being a big brother to her.

    Today was the start of the last  year of school for me, and my sisters first day of school, she was just as excited as I was on my first day. “Congratulations students, all twenty of you have made it to your last year, and so have all other eighty students, as you all know this is the year you all receive your powers. Everything you have been learning has been leading to this day. Some f you will be warriors and others soul reapers, whatever you get chosen to be, it is for the best for the reaper race.” Mr. Red spoke t everyone, he had been the teacher to teach us all of these years, moving up with us as we did.

    “So we will have to go up there and show everyone what our power is, what do you think I’ll get?” Damien leaned over and asked me “I have a strong feeling you’ll be working with fire” I told him honestly. One thing that I hadn’t told him yet was that I could feel what other’s powers were, this was something I liked to keep to myself. I know he was my best friend, but I didn’t want to tell him all of the powers I had, I wanted to keep some for myself. “what power will you show?” he then asked me “I don’t know yet” I said to him “I can’t show any powers that are different so I might either go with fire or wind.” “your mom has water though and your dad lightning, it won’t be a surprise if you show them one of those two, they will just figure you got them because of your parents” he was right.

    “Some of you have not progressed as much as others and are barley passing, if you don’t want to repeat the year next year I suggest that you pair up with someone and train together, whether it is here at school or after” Mr. Red then looked over at Damien and I “Mr. Reed and Mr. Black are perfect examples of those who can help, isn’t that right?” he then asked us in a dangerous tone. “yes sir” we responded at the same time “good, now let’s proceed to showing your powers, Damien you go first please.”

    Damien walked up to the front of the classroom and nervously looked out, I heard a scoff and looked over at Jackie who was crossing her arms and looking at Damien with so much hate, then she turned to me and gave me the same look, what was her problem? I turned back to see my friend and saw as he took a deep breath just like my dad had shown us. He took his hand out and placed it facing his palm up “look at that loser, he doesn’t even know what he’s doing, I guess strength and speed are nothing if you don’t know how to use your power” Jackie said out loud then everyone started laughing.

    “Silence!!!” Mr. Red boomed through the room, I looked at Damien and offered him a smile and a nod of encouragement. Once everyone had quieted down, he took a deep breath again, after a few seconds, fire appeared on the top of his palm, floating not touching his palm. It was moving up and down like a small heartbeat, it was amazing. He then put his hand out and shot fire out of his hand like a flame thrower then receded it back making it go out.

    Part of the room had caught fire and Mr. Red quickly put out with his wind power “I think it’s best we head outside for this” he said. Last year we had all learned to teleport, so instead of walking down a flight of stairs we all teleported out right into the field. Everyone walked up to Damien and congratulated him, he looked so happy he was able to summon his power. “Good job Damien, that was really awesome what you did back there” I told him “thanks, he let out a breath he was holding in. Mr. Red kept naming off students to go next, and one by one they showed us what they could do.

    It was Jackie’s turn to go up now and she walked in front of everyone filled with confidence and looking down at everyone else. I was really starting to not like her at all, as she was getting ready to let her power out she stepped forward and nothing came out. There was a look of fear in her face as she tried again, just like before nothing happened. Everyone else started talking, why was she not getting her powers? She stood in front of everyone as they looked at her and talked about her.

    I looked to her with sadness in my eyes, no matter how mean she had been to me, this should have never happened to her. Fear took over her, she looked over at me, her eyes were starting to get blood filled teary. I reached my hand to her, but she didn’t see me, instead she pushed through everyone and ran away, I wanted to go after her, but she didn’t deserve any consolation from me. I turned back and saw as the other students kept going.
