Chapter 1 - Breaking into his room
Westford, Central District Psychiatric Hospital
There was a constant thrum of the rain falling against the window of a dark room. A sudden lightning flash lit up the room, revealing a woman standing near the window, her face devoid of any expression and her arms tightly wrapped against her chest. There was a click of the door, followed by footsteps approaching closer.
"Jessica, it is time for you to leave the hospital."
A man's silhouette appeared against the now opened ward door and his voice broke the silence of more than 300 days and nights.
Jessica turned towards him after which seemed like an eternity. She had not thought about going out ever again since she was admitted in the hospital a year ago after being diagnosed with severe depression.
Jessica closed her eyes and memories began flooding her mind.
Her ex-boyfriend James betrayed her and framed her company in a way where they had to declare bankruptcy. Her father fled the country to avoid loan sharks, her mother took her own life by jumping off a building and her sister's whereabouts were unknown. She now had no home and it seemed better to meet her end in the hospital.
Her trail of thought came to a halt when the man in the room spoke again.
"Moore Company's position has been stabilized and it needs you to go back and take charge of the overall situation."
Her previously expressionless face finally had a reaction. Who was this man? Why was he telling her about their company?
"Who are you?" She asked the man, fully facing him.
"Apologies for not introducing myself earlier. I'm Robert, and all you need to know is that my master is helping you."
Jessica frowned. Who was this man referring to as Master? As far as she knew, she was not aware of any powerful people in her circle. Especially someone who could stabilize the state of Moore Company.
Robert spoke again, "Moore's old house has been transferred to your name. Starting tomorrow, you will be the new President of Moore Company."
The storm had passed now, revealing the morning sun spreading warmth around her.
Jessica let a cold smile envelope her face. "What do I need to do?" She asked.
"My master has only one request. Go back to William and continue to be his Mrs. Patel."
Jessica gave a dry laugh.
When the Moore Company was in trouble, William's mother somehow took notice of her and helped them get married. She thought that with the power of Patel's family, she could completely take over Moore Company.
But this marriage did not happen out of love. It was a marriage of convenience. William never loved her, but rather despised her. So when the Moore family went through multiple crisis situations, he casually chose to turn a blind eye.
It had been a year already and Jessica almost forgot that she was ever married and was now Mrs Patel.
She walked to the lobby with Robert where she heard the TV in front of them.
"Exclusive! Patel Corporation's president, William and a mysterious actress spotted having a vacation in Hawthorn!"
Jessica tried to look indifferent but her lips curled to form a sneer. She turned to Robert, "Where's William? Why isn't he here?"
Robert was silent, but she knew what was going on.
Picking up her mobile phone, she clicked on the address book and began calling him.
Hawthorn
William came out of the bathroom with his chiseled figure wrapped in a black bathrobe. He had handsome features which felt like they were carved by God himself. As he walked towards the sofa, his secretary fixed her gaze at him and pulled down her blouse as she licked her lips. She looked like she was going to pounce on him any minute. She strolled towards him, taking in his beauty and touched his arm.
"William," she purred, wrapping herself around him.
William's phone rang and he looked at the name flashing on the screen.
'Jessica'
He's not been in contact with her for a year and he thought that she would succumb to her depression one way or another. Why was she calling him now?
He picked up the call and waited for her to say something.
"William, I really like you," his secretary continued in her seductive voice.
After hearing that, Jessica wasn't going to wait any more. She pursed her lips and hung up the call. William still had the audacity to sleep with as many women as he pleased even after being married for over a year. Even though she was in a hospital all this while, he didn't even care to check up on her even once.
William had expected something from the call, but when he didn't even get a mere 'hello' from Jessica and rather was hung up on, he got pissed off. No one ever dared to hang up on him.
"William, look at me," his secretary continued with her purring, trying to get his attention.
He shook her off, now livid at the situation and her annoyance didn't help. "Get out," he growled.
A month later, Moore Company.
"The quarterly meeting seemed to have gone well, Jessica," her assistant Charles said as he followed her back into her office.
"It has to, we've worked hard for this and we need to keep up the good work," she said curtly.
Trying to gauge her reaction, Charles fumbled with his words.
"What is it now? Don't mumble!" Jessica frowned.
"Well, we don't have to go if you think it is pointless, but you've received an invitation for dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel tonight," Charles said cautiously as he opened her office door.
"Who's hosting it?" She asked as she took off her champagne colored blazer and hung it on her chair.
"Uh," her assistant hesitated. "It's from William."
Against Charles' expectations, Jessica's eyes lit up as she heard this news. She had been waiting patiently for an opportunity like this. She knew that William was an egoistic man and not being able to see or hear from her after the phone call a month ago would do a number on him. He would certainly go to an extent of hosting a pointless party just to keep an eye on what she was doing. But this served her well too. William couldn't be the only one enjoying his life. She was going to enjoy hers too and she wasn't about to give a damn about how he felt. Even if it meant restoring her title as Mrs Patel, although he despised it strongly.
A car halted in front of a majestic looking hotel and the valet rushed to open the door. With the ambient lights setting the tone for the evening, Jessica got down from her car. She looked stunning with a white dress, adorned with pearls around her neck. The moment she walked in, all eyes were on her.
She was once a part of the elite circle in Westford, however owing to all the past incidents and accidents, she disappeared from the crowd, erasing her popularity significantly.
She saw the party in full swing. People were pretty much turned up and a networking session was going on. But did her presence really matter in the party? Even if it did, she had other places to be and to be specific, one particular individual she had to meet.
"Can I know where William Patel's room is?" She asked the reception.
"Sure, but may I know who you are?" The receptionist asked, checking her records.
"I'm his wife, Jessica Patel," she said with a sinister smile at her.
Jessica made a bee line to his suite. It looked like it was just cleaned up and there seemed to be no sign of any woman in his room. Pouring herself a glass of wine, she walked to the bathroom, undressing herself as she walked, leaving a trail of her clothes behind her. She soaked her slim body in the bathtub, the wine glass perched on her delicate hands.
The main door clicked and opened, letting in a pretty drunk William. He looked like he had one too many drinks in the party downstairs and staggered around in his suite. Walking in, he discovered the trail of clothes leading to his bathroom. As far as he knew, he didn't invite any woman to his suite. He was already pissed that a certain someone from the Moore Company had ignored his invitation to the party.
Following the trail, he opened the bathroom door and found a very certain someone he did not see during the party.
Jessica.
His eyes turned cold. He was the most eligible person in Westford who held the economic lifeline of almost the whole city. He was on the top of the pyramid and countless women have tried to get into his pants and his bed. But it's just that no woman ever broke into his room and got naked without him! Was she insinuating William to do something about her being completely naked?
