CHAPTER 10 - LITTLE BLUE HAYES – PART 2

1912 Words
I was surprised to see how attached my grandson was to the human girl, Karla. It was the first time Blue behaved that way with a total stranger. Lydia brought Karla to visit our pack; Blue was attached to her. Since then, he had always asked Karla to come and visit. Blue was happiest when she was around. At times like that, he reminded me a lot of his dad. Dylan was once a happy and cheerful baby boy too. Blue was usually a very obedient child. But when his birthday approached, he objected to everything and gave us all a hard time; he knew that his dad would not show up and he became grumpy and disobedient towards everyone. So, when Karla showed up, I felt grateful to have her. That young lady truly loved my grandson. She wasn't pretending, and it was clear that her feelings towards Blue were genuine. And when she revealed that she would stay with us until his birthday, I was happily surprised. What followed surprised me even more. When the conversation turned to Dylan, Karla promised Blue that his dad would be on his birthday this year, and turning to me, she promised me as well. When she finished talking, I saw a gleam in her eyes- a revolutionary stare mixed with stubbornness. I couldn't help but mind-link my mother, Luna Alison, to tell her all about Karla's behaviour. My mother laughed happily and said that Karla was all that Dylan needed; she would bring him back to his senses in no time. She told me to help Karla with whatever she needed. We had talked about Karla before. We watched how she behaved around us for the last six months. My mother told me that Karla was not an average human; she felt that Karla had a strong spirit inside her that she could not quite figure out. Karla's Mexican origins mixed with something else, something more substantial, made Karla special. She was a straightforward person and was never afraid to express herself. When Karla asked me for Dylan's phone number after putting Blue to sleep, I gave her both his office and private numbers. I told her convincing Dylan to join us would not be easy, but she smiled at me and asked me not to worry. Karla's P.O.V. When Luna Ariana gave me Dylan's contact numbers, I asked if I could use one of the studies to make the call. The offices were isolated, and no one would hear my conversation with Dylan. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and dialled Dylan's office number. Dylan's secretary answered and informed me that her boss was in a meeting. I requested that he call me back, telling his secretary that my call had to do with his son, Blue. Not long after, my phone rang, and the familiar number appeared on the screen. I hesitated for a minute and then decided to answer. "Hello?" The deep husky voice sent shivers down my spine. "Did you want to talk to me? Is there something wrong with Blue?" Embarrassed at not replying, I quickly snapped out of it. "Hello, Mr. Hayes. My name is Karla Reyes. I am Lydia's friend. Sorry to bother you, I know how busy your schedule is. I am currently staying at your pack, and I thought I should talk to you about Blue. Blue and I have a good relationship, and I noticed that he has been eager to meet you at his birthday party this weekend. You are coming, right?" I asked most politely, even though I wanted to swear at him for ignoring Blue for such a long time. "Listen, lady, I don't know who you think you are, but you certainly have no right to stick your nose into my personal life and matters that have to do with my son and me. So, back off, will you?" his angry voice blared across the line, and then he hung up on me. What the hell? Did he hang up on me? He didn't even give me a chance to explain how his baby boy was crying, needing him. "You asked for it, you ass.hole," I thought, and picked up the phone again. I redialed his number, and Dylan's angry voice came over the line again. "What didn't you understand? Go tell my sister that I am not coming, is that clear?" "What are you so afraid of that you never showed your face to your son, Mr. Hayes?" I provoked him. My whole body trembled at the sound of his voice, though. Good thing he couldn't see me. "Who the hell do you think you are to talk to me like that?" Dylan roared on the phone. "First of all, don't you ever dare hang up on me again, you jerk! This is your son we are talking about. Do you honestly believe you are the only one hurt by Blue's mother's absence? Have you ever thought about what your absence would do to that little boy when you decided to move on with your life without him? Your ego is much bigger than I first thought. You are a pathetic excuse of a father, Dylan Hayes. You don't deserve to be Blue's father, and you better not show up on his birthday or else I will kick your ass," I replied angrily and hung up, hands shaking in anger. Who did he think he was to deprive a baby boy of his father's warmth just because he decided to be alone after his mate's death? What a disgusting man! Heartless, egotistic creature! "It serves him right. He better not show up because I don't know how I will react when I see him," I mumbled, trying to calm down. Was it anger that made me feel like that, or was it the inexplicable feeling at the sound of that jerk's voice? I couldn't tell, but I preferred the first option because the second one meant trouble. I left the study and headed towards the living room. Luna Ariana and her mother were waiting for me. Luna Alison smiled at me and asked, "So, my dear, is Dylan coming this weekend?" "I am afraid he is not," I replied, disappointment evident in my voice. "I need to confess something, though," I hesitated, looking at them both. Taking a deep breath, I said, my head lowered, "Our conversation wasn't as fruitful as I hoped. I enraged your son, Luna Ariana." "Why do you say that, dear?" Dylan's mum asked, concerned. "Well, he was so bull-headed and didn't allow me to speak that my blood pressure suddenly rose, and I swore at him. Sorry, Luna, I couldn't control myself." I replied, explaining what had happened, and I watched, surprised, as both Luna Alison and Dylan's mother burst into laughter. "Get ready for my grandson's visit, Ariana darling,' Luna Alison said, still laughing, as I tried to understand what was so funny about the situation. Dylan's P.O.V Did she threaten me? And hang up on me? What the fu.ck? I felt my anger rising and slammed my fist on the desk. Who gave that woman the right to talk to me like that? What was her name again? Karla? Who was she? Inexplicable feelings bombarded my heart. I felt the need to face a woman for the first time after five years, not because of lust; instead, I was curious to see who was brave enough to dare talk to me like that. I smirked at the thought and called my secretary. "Cancel all my meetings for the weekend. I will be out of reach." "Let's see if you dare talk to me like that when we meet face to face, Karla," I mumbled. The thought made me smirk again. After such a long time, I felt alive. I would make sure that whoever Karla was would pay for how she talked to me. No one, not even my closest relatives, dared talk to me like that. What did she call me? A jerk and a pathetic excuse of a father? "You wait and see who is pathetic, dear Karla. Just wait and see what kind of a jerk I can be. I will make you lose your cool the minute I meet with you; that's a promise," I mumbled, and I felt excitement at my new mission to bring Karla down and humiliate her in front of everyone. Why was I so excited, though? And then it struck me. Something in the tone of her voice made me feel weird. At the thought of her sassy style, the knot in my stomach made my heart flutter in my chest. What the hell was that? Why was I reacting like a schoolboy again? What the hell was wrong with me? "Probably the excitement of something new in your life, boy," my wolf, Lucian, said. It was the first time he talked to me after a long silence. As long as I avoided going back to the Blue Silver Moon pack and acting as one of the pack's Alphas, Lucian had withdrawn himself to the depths of my mind and only spoke to me in times of need. "What are you talking about, Lucian? Excitement about what? What are you mumbling? I am going to teach Karla a lesson she will never forget." "Be careful not to fall into your own trap, Dylan. She doesn't sound like an easy-going female to me. Karla could be an equal opponent by listening to her voice, and she seemed to be stubborn. So, think twice before trying anything against her," Lucian replied teasingly, and I ignored him. "She is an ordinary female, Lucian. What's so special about her? I can handle her easily. It will be a piece of cake for me, and I will make her regret every single word she said to me today. Just wait and see." "If she is as ordinary as you say, Dylan, why do I feel your heartbeat accelerating at the thought of going back to the Blue Silver Moon pack and meeting with Karla? You can fool anyone but me, boy. Don't forget that I am your wolf and nothing is a secret between us. Whatever you feel, I feel. Whatever you think, I think. So, cut the crap and be honest with me," Lucian reprimanded me, and I kept silent. Was my wolf right? Why was I so excited about going back to the Blue Silver Moon pack? Was it because of my long absence and my son, whom I haven't seen for five years? Or was I so eager to meet with that woman who had angered me so much? "That's bull.shit, Lucian. Okay, I confess, I got excited by the thought of dealing with that sassy woman, but there is nothing more to it. I will make her regret how she treated me; that's all there is. Don't make any assumptions." "Keep telling yourself that, and you might be able to believe it, boy," Lucian replied playfully, and I blocked him. He was too bold for someone who hadn't talked to me in a long time. I went back to my work, but the words on the documents started dancing in front of me. I found it very hard to focus and complete my daily schedule. "Soon, Karla, I will make you regret when you picked up that phone and called me."
