It had been five years since Gina’s death, and I still felt as if I had buried myself with her. I had no social life, and I didn’t try to replace her. I was a male, and I had needs, but that was another story. I had become the playboy I was before I realised Gina was my destined mate. I prefer one-night stands. I made it clear to every female that came my way who wanted more than that.
My only concern was work; I immersed myself in business and managed to take “Northwood Constructions” to a much higher level.
Caleb, who had been watching me work all these years, was worried about me. He was very busy with his Alpha duties because I hadn't dealt with anything that had to do with pack matters, so he had to deal with everything himself.
He decided to combine the Blue Silver Moon and the Yellow Moon packs. He kept the name of the Blue Silver Moon pack, though.
So, most of the time, I dealt with the company's matters all by myself; Caleb trusted me enough to make the necessary decisions.
I had become a ruthless businessman that cared about nothing but work. There was no place for sentimental thoughts, and I acted based on my instincts, which never failed me.
Although I had agreed to put aside my pack duties as the Alpha temporarily, I never returned to the Blue Silver Moon pack, not even for my boy’s birthday. That day reminded me of how Gina had died, and I still couldn't forgive myself.
My mother and sister were responsible for Blue’s upbringing. They often called me, telling me that my son was looking for me, asking questions. My mum told my son that I was working abroad and would return to him when I finished my work.
Lydia insisted on sending me pictures of him growing up. He was a red-headed, blue-eyed baby. Besides the colour of his eyes, he looked like me, same chin, same dimples. Every time I saw his pictures, I wanted to rush to him and hug him and not allow him to leave my side. My guilt about Gina’s death was a barrier that kept me from doing so, though.
Blue’s birthday was in two weeks. Lydia tried to convince me to attend his birthday party this year; he turned five.
She told me that Blue had been asking for me more frequently lately, crying over my absence. Lydia had already said to my son that his mother had died and was in heaven, and my son was afraid that I had passed away as well, so I never showed up.
My heart ached when I heard my sister’s words, and I started having problems with insomnia again, the same feeling I had when Gina died. Still, I thought it was best for Blue not to meet with me. I was the reason for his mother’s death. What if he blamed me after he found out?
I ignored Lydia’s messages and didn't reply to her calls. There was no way I would go back to the Blue Silver Moon pack.
I took over another big business deal that would keep me busy enough. I would use it as an excuse not to show up at my son’s birthday party. When Lydia called to ask me if I was going, I declined, using my heavy workload as an excuse.

KARLA’S P.O.V.
It had been six months since I moved to California with Lydia. Her mate and Alpha of the Stone Moon pack, Seth Greenwood, was a fair and just man. He was young, Lydia’s age, or just a couple of months older than her.
When Lydia told him I would be living with them, he was more like family to me. He and Lydia tried to make me feel at home; Seth had even informed his pack members of my importance to him and his Luna. I was family to them.
Lydia was a member of the Northwood family; it was a piece of cake for her to use her connections to arrange the transfer from my old school to the one near their pack.
I graduated from school with the highest score and was the top student. Under Lydia’s encouragement, I slowly started learning about her business; architecture was a fascinating profession. I helped schedule and manage her appointments and even attended some of them, taking notes as her assistant.
When my phone rang, I was in my room, trying to decide what I would wear for the day, and a child’s voice came from the other side.
“Karla, are you coming to play with me today? Please?”
“Hello, baby. I am afraid that today won't be possible. Aunty Lydia and I have to go on a business appointment. Can we arrange it for the weekend?”
Blue started crying on the other side of the line.
“But I miss you very much. The weekend is too far.”
I met Blue for the first time when Lydia and Seth took me to the Blue Silver Moon pack to visit their family. He was a cute baby with red hair and blue eyes, and he was Lydia’s twin brother, Dylan’s son; when his mate died, Dylan decided to leave the pack, only deal with business, and he never visited the pack or his son ever again.
He was a jerk! That was my first thought when I heard Lydia’s story.
Somehow, I felt a connection with Blue from the day we met. He always wanted to sit next to me and play with me; he even refused his grandmother Ariana to feed him when I was there. He was attached to me, and I got attached to him. I didn’t know what pulled us together, maybe because we both missed our father’s presence in our lives. Perhaps I projected the younger Karla, who had always waited for her father to appear, onto Blue.
Blue’s crying brought me back to my senses. I tried to calm him down, but I failed. A knock on my door and Lydia’s voice interrupted my conversation with Blue.
“Blue, baby, wait a minute. Aunty Lydia is knocking on my door,” I told Blue, and went to open the door for Lydia.
She saw me talking on the phone, and I explained that Blue was on the line. She picked up the phone and heard Blue crying.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Lydia asked, and I could hear Blue’s baby voice telling her that he missed me and wanted to play with me.
“I explained that it’s not possible, but he insists on me going to the Blue Silver Moon pack today,” I said, and Lydia smiled at me.
“Hey, my cute boy, you know what? I will ask one of our drivers to bring Karla to you, okay? She can even stay with you for a couple of days. How about that?”
I could hear Blue’s cheerful voice at the other end of the line.
“Are you sure this is okay? How will you deal with our business appointment today?”
Lydia winked at me, smiling, and hung up with Blue.
“Nothing is more important than Blue’s happiness, Karla. My heart aches when he cries. I cannot be the reason he is unhappy. It’s strange, though. He is more attached to you than any of our family members; have you noticed that? He is not even so attached to my mother, who is with him daily.”
“I feel attached to him as well. He is an adorable little guy, and I think he uses his cuteness to make me do anything he wants,” I replied with a smile.
We both laughed, and Lydia told me to pack up some things. One of the pack’s drivers would take me to the Blue Silver Moon pack when I was ready.
“You know, Karla, pack more clothes. Why don't you stay with Blue until next weekend? His birthday is next Saturday, and it will be the best present for him. My brother will not show up again this year; he used his overloaded business schedule as an excuse, and Blue will be very sad again. It will do him good if you are with him then.”
I decided to follow Lydia’s advice and take more clothes with me. Blue would be ecstatic when I told him I would be staying until his birthday.
The drive to the Blue Silver Moon pack was not very long, and soon, the car parked at the entrance to the packhouse. I opened the passenger door and stepped out. As soon as I got out of the vehicle, a small body collided with mine. Blue had probably seen the car and rushed outside to welcome me.
“Karla, you came,” he said, hugging my thighs tightly in his tiny voice.
“Hello, baby. Yes, I came as promised,” I told him and, bending down, I kissed him on the forehead.
“Pick me up, please?” Blue said, and I lifted him in my arms. He hid his face in my chest.
“I like the way you smell, Karla. You smell like lilies,” he said.
I laughed at Blue’s words and hugged him even tighter.
“Blue, my baby, give Karla some time to rest. You always want her to hold you. You have grown up and are much heavier now,” his grandmother, Ariana, said, coming out of the packhouse.
I smiled at her and greeted her with respect.
“Hello, Luna; nice to see you again.”
“Hello, Karla. Sorry to bother you again. This little monkey knows how to find your phone number. He asked me to show him your name on my phone and then took my phone secretly and called you this morning.”
“That's alright, Luna. I had something planned with Lydia, but we re-arranged it. And I have a surprise for my little monkey,” I said, smiling at her, and Blue lifted his head from my chest.
“A surprise? For me?” he asked anxiously, his eyes big.
“Yeah, baby. But I think it’s best if we go inside first. What do you say?”
I held Blue in my arms and walked inside. He put his tiny face into my chest, making funny faces at his grandmother from time to time.
We entered the living room and sat on the sofa. At the same time, the driver brought my suitcase.
“What is that?” Blue asked curiously.
“Well, baby, I decided to stay with you until your birthday; what do you think?” I asked, and Luna Ariana smiled at me, her violet eyes brimming with tears of joy.
“Really? Will you stay with me? For real?” Blue’s excitement made him jump in my arms.
“Yes, my baby, for real. Do you like my surprise?” I asked him, kissing him tenderly on his cheeks.
“Wow, that’s awesome! Granny-Karla will stay with me for so many days. Can she sleep in my room? Please?” Blue begged his grandmother.
“Blue, baby, your bed is small, and Karla won't be able to rest. She can sleep in your dad’s room, though, and it’s right next to your room. What do you say?” Luna Ariana proposed and smiled at her grandson.
“But granny, what if my dad comes for my birthday this year? Where would he sleep?” Blue’s innocent words stabbed my heart. I felt a pain in my chest, and a knot in my stomach; my eyes filled with tears, and I thought that if that ash.hole of a father Blue had shown up, I would punch him right in the face.
“Baby, we don’t know if your dad is coming. So, let’s give his room to Karla for now, and if he comes, we will give her another room, okay?” Luna Ariana told Blue, and he looked at her stubbornly.
“My dad will come for sure. I know it. He knows that I am waiting for him, and he will come for me.”
Luna Ariana looked at me, and I saw the pain in her eyes.
“Don’t worry, baby, your dad will come for you this year,” I told Blue, and Luna Ariana looked at me, surprised.
I will make sure he comes,” I promised Blue, and looked at a surprised Luna Ariana.
“That’s a promise coming from Karla Reyes,” I told her stubbornly, and she smiled, her violet eyes turning gold for some reason.
