Older students greet us getting off the coach and begin directing us toward rooms. Myself, Becka and Megan are sharing a room. I push open the door and walk inside. There is a communal living area and then four rooms. One room is the bathroom and the other three are bedrooms. I head to the room furthest away on the right. I push the door open and drop my bags on the bed. I meet the girls in the communal room and drop onto the sofa. The door knocks before Matt sticks his head in. “Is it safe to come in?” Megan tells them yes and the boys clamber in followed by a third boy. “This is our roommate Kye,” Justin gestures to him. “Kye, this is Becka, Megan and Ally.” We lounge around and chat for ten minutes or so. “My brother just messaged me,” Justin announces. “We should head down now. Does everyone know what house they are in?” “Yep,” Becka stands up. “Good old house of water.” “Me too,” Kye announces and stands by Becka. “Earth,” Megan and Matt both announce before chuckling. Part of me hopes that Justin is in the same house as me so I won’t be alone during house events. “Fire,” I stand from the couch and turn to Justin. “Me too,” he nods at me. I feel so relieved by that. I step forward and interlock my arm with his as we begin to walk down. The others group off toward their own house meetings. Justin and I make it to the dining hall and sit at a table near the back. We talk amongst our selves as the hall fills with people. Justin is telling me about his future prospects when tingles radiate over my neck. I turn and glance at the doors just as they open. My mouth drops open at the guy who walks through. He has sand blonde hair that is wavy and tousled on his head. His sharp jaw covered in stubble and you can see the muscles bulging from every part of his body. Not too much muscle but enough to make me picture the chiselled abs beneath his shirt. His green eyes seem to zone in on me as he walks toward us. “Ally?” Justin’s voice pulls me out of the trance and I whip my head back toward him. “Sorry. What?” “I asked what you wanted to do when you graduate,” he offers with a smile. I open my mouth to answer but it cuts off when the guy from the door slides into the chair beside Justin. “Hey bro, settling in okay?” Bro? As in brother? My mouth is definitely on the floor now. Sitting next to each other I can now see the resemblance between the two. “Good thanks Jobey,” Justin slaps Jobey’s hand in greeting. “This is Ally.” Jobey looks at me intently before offering me his hand. “Hello cupcake. My name is Jobey.” I cannot even bring myself to be annoyed at the nickname when he is looking at like he is. I slide my hand into his and he slowly brings it to his mouth, he presses a soft kiss to my hand. Justin clears his throat and I snap my hand back again. A professor begins to speak so we turn to listen. I cannot help but feel like both brothers are staring at the side of my face. “Welcome to Achlys Academy,” the professor clicks a slideshow on behind him with the school logo. He drawls on about rules and uniform expectations. “This week is just for settling in. Lessons will not begin until next week. However, you will take part in team building exercises.” The speech doesn’t last much longer before we are being excused. Justin and I make it outside to the court yard and I realise that Jobey is still with us. “There is a third years party at the corn fields tonight. Be there at 9,” Jobey claps Justin on the shoulder and winks at me. He turns and walks away. “We can invite the others too,” Justin tells me as we walk back to the dorms. “They usually do the maize maze in the dark.”
