CHAPTER 10 – AIDEN’S POV – AFTERMARTH

I watched in horror as Casidy raised her hand and began pulling in lightning, she’d done this once before by accident when she was 16 and it nearly killed her but after waking up she told me that she’d never felt so powerful.

‘CASIDY STOP!’ I screamed and ran towards the forcefield but I was pulled back by someone who I threw off and growled at before I realised it was Ryker

‘Are you out of your mind!’ He shouted and grabbed me again when I tried to get to my girls again ‘You’ll get yourself killed!’

‘GET OFF ME!’ I used my command and shifted my claws and slashed his arm to get free.

He cried out in pain but I didn’t care, he shouldn’t have tried to stop me, I ran at the guards again ‘LOWER THE SHIELD!’

They quickly stepped back and flew at the girls, Ava was already down and crying with blood dripping out of her mouth and nose but Casey was still using too much power, even though the rip had closed.

I grabbed her and pulled her back, getting electrocuted at the same time but thankfully I was to strong of it to affect me much but I had to place her on the ground to catch my breath but when I looked back at her, she’d closed her eyes and I could no longer hear her heart.

‘CASIDY!’ I screamed and shook her

‘CASEY!’ Ava shouted in agony, but she was too weak to move.

‘NO, NO’ I shook her again ‘CASIDY, DON’T YOU DARE LEAVE ME!’

I laid her back down and began to use my powers to heal her but she still wasn’t responding.

‘BREATHE!’ I shouted at her ‘CASIDY BREATHE!’

I didn’t stop healing her, even when I felt my power draining to a dangerous level but I would sacrifice my own life just to save her.

‘CASEY BREATHE!’ I screamed again and finally, mercifully I heard her heart beating again, it was weak but beating and I stopped healing her and wound my arms around her body.

I pulled her up and pressed my face against her chest, listening to her heart beats and breathing hard.

‘Good girl’ I whispered in pain ‘That’s my good girl, don't ever do this to me again’

I don’t know how long I held her but eventually reality came back to me and I looked up and turned to Ava.

‘My dear are you okay’ I asked as I reached out and touched her face.

She nodded and looked at Casey with wide tearful eyes ‘Is... is she alive?’

‘She’s alive my dear’ I told her and looked up at Ryker who was holding his bloodied arm ‘Pick Ava up and carry her back and WHERE THE HELL ARE MY HEALERS!’

I gently lifted Casey’s cold unconscious body and held her a little tighter then I probably should but I wasn’t letting her go right now, I could have lost her.

I made sure Ava had been lifted carefully from the dirt and together we carried the girls back to their wing, meeting two of the healers Ryan and Bridget on the way who rushed after us

‘WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!’ I shouted angrily at Ryan

‘I’m sorry your majesty’ He said nervously ‘We came as quickly as we could’

‘YOU’RE DRAGONS!’ I reminded him furiously ‘YOU SHOULD HAVE SHIFTED AND FLOWN!’

‘I’m sorry’ Bridget said as she raced after me ‘We thought that’

‘SHUT UP!’ I interrupted her pathetic excuse ‘Ryan go back and check on the other party guests, Bridget follow me!’

Casey gasped and I looked down in concern ‘Casidy?’

‘What’s happening?’ Ava shouted and tried to looked over ‘Is she still breathing!?’

‘It’s okay Ava dear’ I assured her, trying to sound calm but inside I was a complete mess ‘She’s breathing, please just rest, you used a lot of power’

I reached over and took her hand and pulled it to my lips and kissed her gently before releasing her and placing my hand over Casey’s chest to feel her heart beats, they were still extremely weak so I began to heal her again as we walked.

Finally we made it to their suite where nanny had been sewing in the living room.

She saw up and bolted up ‘What happened?’

‘A rift’ I responded and continued to the girls bedroom

‘Oh my’ She gasped ‘I will get the medicine’

I heard her rush towards the kitchen where she kept the girls medication created by one of our herbalists to help the girls recover their power quickly.

Once we arrived at the girls room, I turned to my Beta ‘Wait here with Ava, I will put Casey into bed and come get her’

‘You’re far to protective of the girls bedroom’ He said patiently ‘I am not going to do anything, I have a mate in case you’ve forgotten, I can’

‘I WILL NOT TELL YOU AGAIN!’ I shouted before entering the room with Bridget and placed my girl gently on her soft covers ‘Examine her!’

I hated leaving her but I had to retrieve Ava who was impatiently waiting in Rykers arms when I re-opened the bedroom door

‘Give her to me’ I demanded and reached over for my sunshine ‘Go supervise the clean up’

‘Yes your majesty’ He bowed and exited the suite as nanny came running back down the hall holding a glass jar filled with grey liquid.

I noticed Ava screw up her face in disgust and if I wasn’t so worried about Casey, I would have laughed at her reaction.

I carried Ava into the bedroom and walked over to her bed while Bridget worked on Casey.

‘No’ Ava began to fuss as I bent to place her on her bed ‘I want to be with Casey!’

‘You can’t right now my dear’ I told her and placed her down ‘She’s being examined, you’re energy will interfere with the examination, you can hop into her bed after, okay’

‘Okay’ She pouted and looked at her twin.

I kissed her gently on the forehead before walking back over to Casey, Bridget had her hands above her body and they were glowing as she checked for damage.

‘Her heart is severely damaged’ Bridge told me ‘Was this caused by a tear?’

‘No, lightning’ I answered and Ava began to cry again so I reached over and took her hand in comfort

‘Lightning?’ Bridget sounded panicked ‘Well that explains it, there’s a lot of damage, it will take weeks for her heart to heal on it’s own, I will come back and heal her daily to expedite the process’

‘Good’ I nodded and looked at Casidy’s face, I’d give anything to hear her voice right now

‘Her arm is badly damaged as well’ Bridget went on ‘All of the veins are burnt, there is no blood flow, I’ll have to focus on healing her arm first before the damage can be undone, she may loose the arm if I leave it unchecked’

‘It’s all my fault’ Ava wept harder

‘Don’t ever say that my dear’ I quickly sat down and hugged her tightly as she cried

‘It is’ She said emotionally ‘If I was stronger, she wouldn’t have had to do it alone, she died because of me, it’s all my fault, I’m sorry, Casey I’m sorry’

‘Shh’ I hushed her ‘Don’t think like this, you are not responsible, you didn’t cause any of this, Casey did what she felt she had to and she’s alive, you are not to blame’

Ava continued to cry as I held her, I was always so shocked how the girls moods affected me, every tear she shed was like a knife in my heart.

Finally, she had cried herself and I leant back and wiped the tears from her cheeks and kissed her softly on the lips

‘Everything will be okay’ I told her ‘Now, I want you to drink the medication nanny has’

Again Ava’s face screwed up in disgust but she did as she was told and began to drink the medicine from the glass nanny had offered her and I looked back at Casey.

'Ava dear' Nanny said gently and touched her hair 'Why don't we get you cleaned up while the healer is taking care of Casey'

Ava was still covered in her own blood and dirt but it was the first time in her life that she was messy and it didn't seem to bother her at all.

'No' She shook her head, her eyes were back on her twin 'I am not leaving her'

Nanny looked at me beseechingly, so I so sat back down beside my girl and touched her arm

'Ava dear' I said softly 'Casey will be asleep for a while and it truly hurts me to see you covered in blood, please get washed up'

Ava exhaled angrily but nodded 'Fine but if she wakes up, I want to know'

'I will come and get you' I told her before I scooped her up into my arms and carried her into her large bathroom.

I sat her down on a chair and turned to nanny

'Help her undress and wash'

'You could do it' Ava commented and I cracked a smile for the first time since the rift opened

'Theres my girl' I smiled and kissed her forehead 'Nice try though, I will be outside, once she's dressed, tell me and I will carry her back to bed'

'Yes Alpha' She smiled and turned to Ava as I exited the room.

If Casey wasn't in so much danger it would have excited me to know Ava was naked only a few feet from me.

'Is she any better?'

'There is blood flow to the arm again' She answered, her voice sounded strained 'But I've had to use a lot of power just to get her to this point so I linked another healer to come help'

'A female healer?'

'Yes your majesty' She said and wiped her brow which had a thin layer of sweat 'I assume you healed her when she was first injured?'

'I did'

'That explains it' She commented 'She should be dead your majesty, you did a great job healing her but you must have used a great deal of your power too, should I check you over?

'No, just focus on Casey' I ordered 'I will regenerate soon, how is her heart?'

'A little stronger but she isn't out of the woods just yet' She warned me 'Lady Casidy is strong which is probably the only reason she's still holding on but her heart could give out at any time, I recommend a healer to stay with her at all times, in fact, it would be better if she was in the medical wing so we'

'No' I interrupted her 'Theres are to many ways for someone to get to her in there, she is safest here, you and another three healers can stay in one of the spare rooms down the corridor, stay in shifts of 6 hours each until she is stable enough on her own'

'Yes sir, I will make sure it's done' She said and continued to heal Casey.

I sat down beside Casidy and held her hand and every few minutes when I felt my strength fill up enough, I used it to help heal her before my strength drained away again.

After half an hour, nanny came back into the room and went straight to the closet, she pulled out some clothes for Ava before returning to her so I stood up and stretched as I waited to help her back to bed.

‘She’s ready Alpha’ Nanny came back out again wiping her hand dry on her apron

‘Thank you’ I walked back into the bathroom to find Ava dressed in a silk slip and night gown with her hair down

She reached out her arms and I smiled and quickly scooped her up ‘How are you feeling?’ I asked and pressed my face into her slender throat ‘Are you feeling stronger?’

‘A little’ She told me ‘I want Casey’

I leant back and looked into her eyes ‘Kiss me first’

Ave smiled and pressed her lips to mine and I felt my tense body relax

‘Come my dear’ I said and carried her back into the room

‘I want to sleep in Casey’s bed’

‘Alright’ I said and gently placed her down ‘Just be careful, try not to move her much’

Ava didn’t respond, she just curled around her twin and pressed her face into her throat and started to cry softly

‘Are you done for now?’ I asked the healer

‘Yes sir’ She nodded ‘Kara is coming to take over for me and I will organise the others’

‘Wonderful’ I said and turned to nanny ‘Get one of the servants to set up two bedrooms for the healers, they will be staying until Casey is well’

‘I will do it’ She told me ‘I want to keep busy right now’

‘Very well’ I said, I wasn’t interested in arguing, I kicked off my shoes and climbed into Casey's bed on her other side and wrapped my arms around both Casey and Ava and closed my eyes

I heard the other healer arrive after half an hour and I reluctantly sat up as nanny let her into the room.

‘May I come in and check on the Luna your majesty?’ Kara asked

I’d known Kara for a very long time now, she’d come from the witch realm, when the last celestial had failed in her duty, many dragons left the realm in search of a safer place to live but a few dragons who’d been born in those realm had come back to our realm once Casey and Ava had been found.

‘Yes’ I stretched and yarned, I could feel my power returning but I was still very weak.

Ava had drifted off to sleep so I moved around to her side and carefully picked her up and rocked her gently to keep her asleep as Kara examined Casey.

‘Her heart is still weak’ She told me ‘I will heal her for a little bit’

‘Do what you have to’

‘Alpha?’ I heard Ryker link me as I cuddled Ava

‘What?’

I was still furious at him for trying to stop me from getting to Casey

‘The clean up is nearly done’ He told me ‘There’s no permanent damage to the area thanks to the girls but we lost 3 dragons, all mated so that number will probably be 6 by nightfall’

‘Sh*t!’ I growled angrily, but that was the way of things, your mate was your greatest joy and strength and also your greatest weakness.

I looked down at Casey, what would I have done if she’s stayed dead today, would I have had the strength to go on for Ava?

‘Have the healers attempt to keep them from killing themselves’

‘I’ll try’ He told me ‘I’ve informed the council, they’re requesting an emergency meeting’

‘I am not leaving Casey until she’s out of immediate danger’ I told him, leaving no room for argument ‘We will have a meeting in the morning’

‘Yes your majesty’

‘And Ryker’ I said firmly ‘If you ever try to prevent me from getting to mates again, I will kill you’

‘I’m sorry’ He sounded a little afraid, he knew I wasn’t lying ‘It was just a natural instinct, it’s my duty to keep you alive’

‘Not when it come to my girls’ I told him angrily ‘I would give my life in a heartbeat to keep them safe and if you hadn’t interfered, Casey mightn’t be in such a terrible state right now, I could have gotten to her before so much damage was done’

‘That wasn’t my intention’ He sounded sincere and concerned ‘I would never willingly harm one of the girls, you know how much I care about them’

‘Regardless’ I said angrily ‘Do not forget my warning in the future, interfere again and your mate will be burying you’

I cut the link and looked back at Kara who’s hands were glowing and running over Caseys body.

I hated how still she looked but her heart was beating so I knew she was going to be okay.

‘Casey?’ Ava whispered in pain and began to stir, sh*t.

I rocked her gently again ‘Are you almost done?’ I asked Kara

‘I can stop for now if you prefer?’

‘Yes’ I nodded and placed Ava back down beside her other half.

Instinctively she curled around Casey once more and fell silent again

‘Leave us’

‘Yes your majesty’ She bowed ‘I will come back in, in one hour’

‘Very well’

For the rest of the day and night, I remained in bed with the girls, this was not how I’d envisioned our first time in a bed together to go but I did like holding them.

I didn’t know if I could go back to sleeping away from them again, but I knew the wedding would be at least a month away so I was taking full advantage of sleeping with them this evening.

Every hour on the hour, a healer would come in and check on Casey and heal her for a few minutes before leaving again.

Ava’s mood was low and she barely ate anything for dinner or breakfast but when I tried to convince her to eat more she snapped back at me by saying I hadn’t eaten much either so I let it go, only Casey waking up was going to help us feel better.

After breakfast I new I couldn’t hold off the council much longer and when the healer Sophia told me that Casey was no longer in immediate danger, I linked Ryker and told him to gather the council.

‘Ava my dear’ I said to her as she came out of the bathroom ‘I have to go to a council meeting so’

‘You’re leaving us!?’ She said angrily and looked at Casey ‘But Casey’s still unconscious!’

‘I know my dear’ I went over and touched her face but she slapped my hand away and back away ‘Ava, I wouldn’t go if I didn’t have to but the council need to know what happened yesterday and we have to organise the protection spells to be strengthened, this was the first rift within the castle grounds, that shouldn’t have happened’

‘FINE!’ She shouted ‘GO, WE DON’T NEED YOU!’

Tears filled her eyes and my heart ached, I quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her into a tight hug

‘Please don’t say that’ I pleaded ‘I wouldn’t leave you if I had another choice’

‘You’re the King’ She grumbled ‘You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do’

‘As a King, I have to sometimes put the thunder ahead of my own needs’ I pointed out as I leant back and kissed her forehead ‘And if you truly want to be my Queen then you have to understand that, even you and Casey will have to put our relationship second from time to time’

‘I know’ She pouted ‘I’m sorry, I just… I miss her, please don’t leave me alone’

Tears fell down her face again and I quickly lifted her up and she wound her legs around my waist and I froze for a moment, she was only wearing a silk slip as she chose not to put a dress on after her morning bath because she was staying in bed with Casey but I quickly pushed away the dirty thoughts that were suddenly filling my mind.

‘I have to go my dear’ I told her soothingly ‘But I promise to return as soon as possible and if Casey wakes up before I return, have nanny link me and I will return’

Ava nodded against my throat and I held her tighter for a few minutes before reluctantly placing her back on the ground and kissing her lips.

‘I will be back soon’ I told her before I turned back to Casey and leant down, I was tempted to kiss her soft lips but I wanted our fist kiss to be something she remembered so instead, I kissed her forehead

‘Wake up soon my love’

I felt my chest restricting painfully as I left the bedroom, I hated leaving them.

‘Nanny’ I called out as I walked down the hallway

‘Yes Alpha’ She came rushing out of the kitchen ‘Is something wrong, has Casidy woken up?’

‘Not yet’ I informed her ‘I have to leave for a council meeting so please make sure the girls are taken care of’

‘I will’

‘And I want you to organise with the maids to start packing up the girls belongings and have them moved to my wing’

‘Oh’ She sounded confused ‘The girls mentioned the move but they said you would wait until Casidy was ready’

‘I know what I agreed to’ I told her ‘But things have changed, I want them in my wing, Casey will come around, their rooms will need a good cleaning as they’ll be covered in dust’

‘I will speak with the maids’

‘Thank you’ I smiled ‘And link me if Casidy wakes up before I return’
