Before she could answer, there was a knock at the door and the smile on my face fell. I wanted to know her answer but the person knocking wouldn't stop. Since I had locked the door the night before, I knew they could not open the door and walk in. "I need to see who it is and what they want. I do not need to meet with the council for awhile but we have time." I said as I got up, grabbed my robe and headed for the door. Once at the door, I unlocked it and opened it. "What do you want?" I said with a hint of annoyance and anger lacing my tone. Draven was at my door and he looked like hell. "We need to talk." "Can it wait?" I asked. "You look like your ready to pass out." "The council was up all night and we just got out of the meeting we had with your father, but we need to talk now because what I have to tell you is going to change everything." I moved to the side and let him. I looked over at my beautiful mate and smiled. "This is Draven. He is my closest friend and a council member," I said to her. "I know who he is. He is the council member who has come to my home several times because of the council's rulings. I looked at Dravin and he nodded, confirming what she said. "Well, what is so important?" "Your father and the elder council members have dropped a big bomb during the night. I am not sure if it is out of anger or whatever' but we need to test your mates' blood." "Why and what has been said?" "When the elder ran off with the human, they had a child." "Yes I know." "What I found out was that when marked by her mate she was able to get some of his abilities. There link was something no one had seen before. He felt all of her pain but most importantly, when they killed her, he died with her." "Has there deaths been confirmed?" "Yes, by several members of the council who were there." "And the child?" My mate asked. "The king took the child. He will not talk about what happened to the child but we need to get your blood tested." He said with urgency in his voice. "Why do you need her blood?" I asked as I narrowed my eyes at him. "Twenty years ago, your father started experimenting on humans and I need to make sure she is not part of the program." "What type of experiment?" She asked, causing me to look away from Dravin at her. I looked back at Dravin and waited for him to answer. "Your father started injecting pregnant human females with dragon blood." "Why would he do that and what was he hoping to gain from this?" I asked and I crossed my arms over my chest. I knew my father could be shady, but what would he gain from this? "Apparently, our numbers are starting to dwindle due to the lack of females being born. He didn't give a reason, but the children who have been born they each have different abilities. One is stronger than normal humans, another has yellow eyes. I could go on." "Well, there is nothing special about me," She said, drawing my attention back to her. "I beg to differ," I said as I winked at her, causing her to roll her eyes. "But why would you think she would be part of this experiment?" Dravin looked at her and then back to me. "What are the odds that she is a dragon's mate?" "Well, if one human was a dragon's mate, then it is bound to happen again." "True, but we need to be one hundred percent sure." "I don't mind having my blood drawn." Dravin smiled. "Okay. Could you step out and give us a moment to get dressed," I said. "Five minutes." Dravin said as he turned around. As he walked through the door he said, "By the way, the council plans to meet after lunch and you both must attend." "Understood." I closed the door and let out a deep breath. I turned around and looked at my beautiful mate. "Well, it seems my plans have changed. Lets get dressed." I walked over to my closet and began to grab clothes when her scent invaded my nose. "I don't have any." "Well, my love, I happen to have some here just for you. I knew you would come to live with me and I wanted you to have something." I grabbed a beautiful dress next to my shirt and handed it to her. She grabbed it and held it up, admiring it. It was a long flowing baby blue dress. It was not a dressy dress but one she could wear throughout the day. It was a huge upgrade to the ones the human wore. "It is beautiful. Thank you." "Your welcome love." I leaned down and brushed my lips over hers. "Now go and get dressed. I will dress in here."
