Chapter Four: A Coward

"Take another step, and the next one finds your heart," Miss Purple warned. The guy who shot the arrow was in black, with a straw hat covering his face. He had another arrow drawn and pointed towards Jack's heart. "Alright, I won't take a step," Jack cried nervously, his terrified eyes fixed on the arrow pointed at his heart. He wondered if he died in this dream if he would be dead for real. The thought made him panic more. He had yet to do many things in this life to have it cut so short. He doesn't want to die a virgin. "About the Monster, where is it?" Why would they want to know where the monster is? Jack frowned at the ridiculousness of the question. They should be running from that horror, not trying to find it. "Varah!" Miss Purple yelled with fear in her voice. The others looked worried at her words. Where did you see the monster? She turned to Jack, her voice raised angrily. "In...the...forest...back...there," Jack stammered, pointing behind him. "A blonde girl was fighting it, and then I ran," he further explained, his voice shaking like a leaf. His words made the whole room explode in anger. "You left her alone!" screamed the dark guy. Jack nodded his head, even as he was about to piss himself from how terrified he was. They all rushed towards him, and Jack hid his face behind his raised hand. Please don't kill me, he screamed, but they all rushed by him, hurrying outside. "f*****g coward," Mo Hawk spat at him as he passed. Alone, Jack collapsed on his knees, his whole body shaking. He has never been this terrified like that in his life. Jack had thought they were going to impale him with their various weapons. Good thing they didn't, he joked, trying to use humour to calm his terrified mind. Not that it was working. Now that he was alone, what to do? Jack looked around him. There wasn't much to see. The house looked like someone hadn't lived in it in years. Cobwebs everywhere, the woods looking odd and rusty. The window seems about to fall off its hinges. Hay everywhere. He realized that he was in the barn. Why were they in the barn? It's not his business. Now that he is alone, maybe he can escape before they return. And go where? The question popped into Jack's mind, giving him pause. They were the only humans he had seen, so maybe it would be smart to remain here. What if the monster comes here? Another voice asked, filling Jack's mind with confusion about what to do next. Maybe he should wait here for the rest. Jack looked around for a place to rest while he waited. Falling asleep might help him wake up back to reality. Maybe he should try that. Jack made his way to a pack of hay and threw his tired body on it. He tried to sleep, but his mind was too active for him to get any sleep. He turned and turned, trying to shut down his thoughts, jumping at every slightest sound from the outside. Amidst his turns and sighs, he manages to fall asleep. A few hours later, someone screamed, "You coward!" and delivered a solid kick to his side, waking Jack up. "Awh!" he groaned, clutching his hurting side. He looked up at his assailant to find the mo hawk guy glaring murderously at him, his foot drawn back for another kick. Jack immediately positioned himself to guard his vital organs while wondering why the mo hawk wanted to kill him. Luckily, before his foot could land a second time, someone intervened. "Hey, now is not the time," Miss Purple held the raging Mo hawk back, relieved Jack until she added. "We can kill him later; right now, Varah is the priority." The Mo Hawk guy agreed with her suggestion, and the two of them hurried off, leaving Jack in pain and asking why they wanted to kill him. A few feet away from him, many activities were going on. He couldn't see what was happening as many bodies were in the way. He dragged himself off the hay and made his way to the bunch. He felt nauseous immediately when he saw the massive gash on the thigh of the blonde he met in the forest, and she was bleeding profusely. The sight of the blood and the smell of it made Jack feel dizzying, and the next thing, he found himself on the floor. The next time he came around, he was hog-tied to a pillar. The others were a few feet away from him, around a burning fire, eating. His stomach growled loudly at the sight of food, informing his captors that he was awake. The dark guy and Miss Purple turned to look at him while the others pretended that he didn't exist. Jack's mouth watered at the sight of the enormous meat in Miss Purple's hand. He swallowed, eyeing the meat hungrily. He watched with his stomach groaning as they finished their meal, and then the focus was back on him. They all stood up and made their way to him. Lucien, or is it Lur, moved to rest his lean frame against the wooden wall, his expression was impassive and cold, and he wasn't looking at Jack merely waited for the others to act. This time, the person leading the confrontation wasn't Miss Purple but the spiky blonde. She squatted down in front of Jack with an unreadable expression on her face. So what do we do with a coward like you? She asked in a slow drawl, using some pointy weapon to caress Jack's face. "I am sorry for leaving you," Jack apologized in a shaky voice, moving his face away from the pointy weapon, but the spiky blonde followed, her weapon digging deeper into his flesh. "Apology," the blonde tilted her head to the side as she dragged the word out. " Not accepted," she finished with an amused look in her green eyes. Jack wondered if she was okay. He looked towards her thigh, looking for the wound, but all he found was smooth, pale skin. "Looking for the wound?" The blonde arched an amused brow at him. Jack was too nervous to speak, so he let his eyes do the speaking. "It is all healed up, but your coward a*s just cost me twenty per cent life force, so you owe me," the blonde said in a tone that brought shivers down Jack's spine while she used her weapon to caress Jack's cheeks again. "What do we do with him?" Miss Purple asked.
