When Jack came back to consciousness, he first noticed the warmth on his face. If he didn't know better, he would think he was outside. Jack slowly opened his eyes and immediately shut them when the sun gazed directly into them. What? His confused mind tried to analyze his memories and find out what he was doing outside. He chanced another look; maybe the first time was probably a dud.
The sight of tall green trees and an extraordinary environment had him flying to his a*s and his heart to his throat.
Where am I? Jack looked around him for anything familiar, but all that greeted his questioning eyes was the forest. The forest was eerily quiet, not even the sound of a bird, which was terrifying, never mind the question of how he got here and what he was doing here.
He needed answers, which meant he had to move. He pulled himself to his feet and looked around his surroundings for a clear path to civilization, but all he saw was a thick green forest stretching for days.
Don't panic. You are smart and can find your way out of this place. The pep talk was meant to calm his alarmingly fast-beating heart, which is inhibiting him from thinking straight, but it didn't work. If anything, he got more scared as his head couldn't provide the answers he sought.
His whole body went cold when he heard a loud thumping sound, like the hooves of an elephant, and it was coming behind him.
Don't look, his mind warned him, but how could he not when the sound looked like it was heading in his direction? He wished he hadn't when he turned and saw what was heading towards him. The Monster heading for him looked seven feet tall, with a thick, barklike-looking body, octopus hands and a face like a bull, with small horns growing from his massive head. In each hand, he had an axe. The need to survive unstuck his feet from the ground, and he shot off like a speeding bullet while screaming like a banshee.
His screams alerted the seven-foot Monster to his presence, and he gave a pursuit. The beast being after made Jack run faster, but the Monster was gaining ground, and his pounding huge feet made the ground shake.
I thought Big Foot wasn't supposed to exist in reality. Jack questioned his terrified mind as he continued to race for his life with no idea where he was going until a hand shot out and snatched him off the path into a massive canopy of tree branches. The scream that filled his lungs was never allowed to escape as someone's hand clapped over his mouth.
Thinking he was about to be murdered by the person who held him hostage, Jack struggled for his life while whimpering against the palm over his mouth.
"Keep quiet unless you want to be killed by that," a feminine voice snapped softly into his ear, her breath sending shivers down his body.
A girl had him restrained. The idea was humiliating to Jack. He stopped struggling and tapped the girl's hand to be let go. The girl hesitated as if she couldn't trust Jack to behave. Jack whimpered incomprehensible words behind the girl's palm to let her know that he would behave, and the girl took her hand off his mouth as she understood but was further from the truth. She let him go because she had more important things to deal with, like the sentinel the foolish boy had brought to her doorstep. She was out here searching for clues that would lead them to the green totem and has been very careful to stay clear of the path of the sentinel beings guarding Mammon Forest.
They were in Mammon's kingdom, the Demon of Greed. He is the guardian of the first gate and the keeper of the green totem. They do not know where his lair is, and his kingdom is patrolled by his demon armies, which they have to defeat before they can even get close to him. He turned to face his captor.
Jack turned to greet his captor and was met by a gorgeous blonde girl with sharp green eyes that looked like they had sparkles in them. Her green eyes were lined by dark shadows, making them pop, and the spiky way she wore her blonde hair, with the green strand in it, made her look like a rebel—a stunning rebel.
Jack's heart accelerated in his chest, as it usually does in the presence of a beautiful girl. All his wits and courage desert him whenever a girl is close to him. He looked like he was having a panic attack but was determined to get his question across. He wanted to know what the hell was happening and what the f**k that monstrosity was?
He opened his mouth to ask what was happening, but a slender forefinger placed gently on his lips shut him up. The blonde girl shook her head so he would not speak. Jack nodded, but his eyes widened when the Monster roared very close to their position. The blonde with him was the only thing that stopped him from passing out. That would be so uncool, right?
The Monster looked around him, trying to sense the sound he heard in the forest. He couldn't see and only used his sense of hearing to detect his prey. The forest was quiet, which confused him. He lingered a little, hoping to catch the noise again. He was hungry and looking to eat something.
Jack and the girl wait for the Monster to leave, but he takes his sweet time. Jack begins to get tired of his uncomfortable position. He can feel the numbness creeping up his legs, and he wants to move so badly but is scared of alerting the Monster to their presence.
Maybe just a little, he thought, moving his leg out to ease the discomfort. Unfortunately, his movement snapped the fallen small branch under his foot. The noise drew the Monster's attention to them. He roared and leapt towards them.
"f**k!" the blonde pushed Jack out of the path of the swinging axe. Why did she tumble in the opposite direction?
Jack gawked with a look of horror on his face at the Monster. Up close, he looked scarier. The beast looked like it eats humans for breakfast, and Jack was not waiting around to be his lunch. f**k being brave.
While the blonde engaged the Monster in a fight, Jack took off. He was not waiting for the beast to finish the blonde and come for him. Despite her being six feet tall, he doubts the blonde would be enough for the beast. The Monster was taller and ten times bigger than her lean frame.
He ran without looking back and finally broke out of the forest. He looked to his right and saw a house not far from where he was, and he continued his race in that direction. He didn't stop until he got to the house. It was an old house and, by the looks of the exterior, abandoned for so long. Everything looked like it would collapse in the next second, but Jack had no option. The house looks like the only refuge in the godforsaken forest.
Maybe the beast would forget all about him after he had the blonde for lunch. He could rest here and then figure out his next move.
He pushed the wooden door and ran into the large room. He was surprised to find it occupied and, to his horror, so many weapons pointed in his direction.
