“I can’t be the Jarl,” I tell Anders as we climb into bed together. He just smirks at me, pulling the blanket over me. We walked home, hand in hand, and carried our clothes back. He assured me that no one would hurt me, but I just don’t understand. He says that’s how things work here. If you kill the Jarl, you become the next one, but I was just trying to protect myself. Anders pulls me to his side, his hand gently rubbing my back. “Do you want to tell me how you can talk to me now?” “Do you want to tell me why you aren’t in pain? And how you turned into your wolf? It’s not the full moon,” I counter. He sighs. “Honestly, I’m not sure,” he tells me. “My wolf could follow your scent to find you and once I let him have control and didn’t fight shifting, it didn’t hurt as badly.
