Chapter 3: Prince Aiden

702 Words
Three Prince Aiden     Cronan Spires was in protective custody. He’d left The Guillotine and given the Irish Crown important information on those responsible for the death of my sister. In short, I owned his arse. Which was why, when I saw him coming to my dorm with Lucy, it took everything in my power not to kill him. I’d seen the flirty looks in their eyes. Felt the obvious tension. And there was no way in heaven or hell that I would let it happen. So, I did the one thing that I could do to stop it. I declared The Law of Anam Cara.     The Law of Anam Cara could be issued by the Prince or King of Ireland. The Law of Soulmates.  When it was issued, whoever he declared as his soulmate, had to be courted by a year for him or leave Ireland forever. I knew Lucy. She wouldn’t give up her grandparents. Even if it meant being courted by me. The law of Anam Cara could be declared as many times as needed to convince the soulmate.     I had to do whatever I could to keep Cronan away from her. So, I declared the law, and I kissed her. For one year, she was mine, and for one year, I could keep her away from him. Because it would only take one year to make her mind. Remembering what the former Prince of Coleum had done to secure the girl he loved, I snapped a picture as I kissed her. A picture that I posted on i********:, with the caption----I declare Anam Cara. I tagged Lucy in it.     She didn’t see any of this. I did it after the kiss.     After the kiss, Lucy pulled away, glaring at me. “You are impossible.”     “I am deadly serious,” I told her, “I’ve loved you for years, Lucy. I’m graduating this year. They’ll expect me to get married, to become more responsible. I don’t want Edele, no matter how much it would please everyone. She’s my cousin. I know the old ways would allow it, but I am not old fashioned. I don’t care about bloodlines. I want you. It’s always been you. It’s like that song of yours says.”     “What song?”     “The one that you played on repeat when you turned thirteen. They say that the world was built for two. Only worth living if somebody is loving you.”     Lucy shook her head at the song. “Maybe that’s true. But only if the two people fit together. You and me, we’ll never fit together.”         “I don’t care. If we don’t fit, I’ll morph myself to be part of you.” She let out a frustrated huff, then stormed off. I should have gone after her, but I knew she would need her space. What was more, I’d had private security following her since Mallory had died. She’d be fine. But I couldn’t get over the taste of her lips on mine, or the feel of her body pressed against me.        Cronan coughed from beside me. “Alright there, lad?”     I sighed, running a hand through my dark hair. “It was a foolish mistake, doing that.”     “Yer highness, if all you wanted was for me not to sleep with her, all you would’ve had to do was ask me not to sleep with her. I would have done it. I’m a man of honor, if nothing else.”     “If it wasn’t you, someone else would have come along. Lucy is an innocent. If anyone is going to take that away, it’s going to be me.”     Cronan smirked. “Bit possessive, aren’t you, your highness?”     I glowered at him. “All I want to do is to keep her safe.”     “I think all you want to is to bangity bangity,” Cronan said.     “Shut up,” I told him, “and let this be a warning to you. I’ve declared Anam Cara. If anyone tries to do anything with Lucy, I will bring back beheading for the soul purpose of cutting theirs off.”     “Duly noted, your majesty.”     I watched Lucy’s form retreating, until she headed in the direction of the girl’s dorms. Then, I took out my cell phone and made a call. “Mam,” I said, “I have news.”
