ENCOUNTERING THE DEVIL

1291 Words
Nyx watched her steps as she walked on deeper into the Devil's Cave. “Nyx." The soft voice called again, and as though in hallucination her resolve to get to the voice increased. “Eww." She yelped as a bat fluttered past. “We must have disturbed you guys." She muttered silently, a faint smile on her face. She tried not to touch the sides of the cave, due to the green slippery spirogyra in its walls. “I can't hear my name again." Nyx thought, her hands trembling slightly. She clutched her phone tightly, pointing it in front of her for direction. "Hello.” She called quietly, and her voice echoed back at her. " Hello, anybody there?” She called again, raising her voice. She got no answer and she hissed. “One hell of an imagination." She began scrolling through her contact list stopping at the name Anna, with a love emoji beside it. As she clicked on the name the call beeped twice. “s**t!" She muttered, looking up at the network area of the screen. “This is just great." “Even the scary devil's Cave has no network." She shook her head. Lifting the phone above her head and waving it around, looking back at it to see if the network had improved. "Man, this is really a …." “Jeez." She shouted as she kicked a stone, losing balance and found herself sprawling on the floor. “Boy oh boy, I should have listened to Anna." She looked up, her face frowned "Darkness,” She quickly sat up, her eyes widened, as her heart began to beat fast. “My phone!" Nyx exclaimed silently, running her hands around the floor. “Things will not stop being awkward will it?" She asked, moving her hands quietly in the floor. “Thank God!" She heaved a sigh of relief, when her hands tugged at the phone. She pressed the power button, but the phone refused to come on. “Come one," She long pressed it and the screen blinked on. “My goodness." Nyx's hands flew to her heart as she stared at the screen. Series of black lines had appeared on the screen, and the lower part had turned dark, as though doused in ink. She clicked on the upper part and it hung. “That's it. I'm leaving this godforsaken cave." She heaved herself up. Her face contorted in mild anger. “I shouldn't even be here in the first place." She walked close to the cave walls, breathing in and out before touching the walls. “Slimmy." She shook her head in disgust, walking quietly and using the cave walls to guide her way. “Twii!" Nyx heard a sound below, and quickly withdrew her foot. It sounded like a tree branch snapping. " What have I stepped on this time?” She thought. She bent low, pointing her phone screen on the floor. There was nothing there. She pointed the screen around and there was still nothing. “Crazy cave.” She muttered, standing up. As she took another step, she heard a grumbling sound behind her. “Jesus Christ!" She jumped, turning around hastily. Her eyes bulged as she beheld the sight in front of her. " Oh my goodness.” She muttered. A bright light was illuminating the cave, as a part of the cave was rolling open slowly. "My goodness, this is what my friends are missing.” Her eyes opened in awe, as the wall rolled to a stop. The light from the room was now illuminating the cave, and from her position she could see inside the cave. An awe struck Nyx, willed her legs to move quietly, walking towards the open compartment. “This is beautiful." She exclaimed, standing at the entrance of the hidden compartment. The walls were free from spyrogyral. Little holes were carved at the top of the wall. Inside the holes were lamps burning with blue fire. “Amazing!" Nyx chuckled, her mouth hung open in surprise. Her eyes darted around the room. At the center of the room was a mold that looked like a coffin. “This sign is almost everywhere." She ran her hands over the infinity sign, carved on the mold. “Wood." She gasped, knocking on the coffin twice. The lamps in the room flickered and she shrieked, turning around fast. She looked around the cave. More holes were on the walls, with different objects on it. “A trumpet?" She arched her face, picking up a white object that looked like an elephant tusk. “The infinity sign again." Nyx ran her hands over the tusk, caressing the infinity sign carved on it. She turned to the next hole, there was a small pot inside. “A genie is probably in it." She smiled, noting the infinity sign on the pot's lid. She tried to pry off the lid but she couldn't. “Better safe than sorry." She thought, returning the pot back to the hole. She turned to the next hole. There was a feather in it. “This is…” She was interrupted by a loud clang on the floor, turning around sharply, she saw the pot rolling towards her. It's lid rolling the opposite direction. She stopped the rolling pot with her foot, bending to pick it up. “What the hell?” She jumped backwards. Smoke was oozing out of the pot. She crawled quickly towards the lid, stopping it, just before it rolled out of the room. The blue fire fluttered twice then went off, plunging the cave into darkness. “Oh my God!" Nyx exclaimed, her lips trembling, as she reached for her phone. Instantly a loud grumbling sounded in a distance, a strong gust of wind enveloping the cave as though it was passing by. “I think it's time to go." Nyx, straightened her bag and turned to run out. As she turned, the lights came in again, making her pause. She looked around the room one more time, her eyes widening. There was a little cracking sound and she turned towards it's direction. It was a wooden mold. There was a small c***k in the middle of the infinity sign and it began to expand, so also was Nyx's heart. Her hands were trembling now, and her phone fell off. As she turned to run, the wooden mold shattered a hand reaching out and grabbing Nyx's neck. “Help!!" She shouted, as a figure sat up from the mold, its eyes closed. Its body was smelling damp, and it was dripping in black ink like, as though doused in paint. Its hands were still connected to Nyx's throat as she wriggled fruitlessly, as she choked. The figure opened its eyes slowly, a bright red eyeball staring dangerously at Nyx widened eyes. It opened its mouth, and four pairs of canines began to form. When Nyx saw this she began to shake furiously, but it was too late. The figure sank its teeth into Nyx's neck, sucking greedily. After having its fill the figure shoved Nyx aside, with a hard push, stepping calmly out of the mold. It's black oily skin had transformed to a dirty white. It's mouth was dripping with blood. It cracked its head sideways in a regal manner, turning to look at Nyx who was lying sprawled on the floor. Her eyes closing quietly. He turned towards the cave entrance and silently began to walk out of the room. “Who…. Who are you?" A dying Nyx asked, her voice soft and weak. The figure stopped, turning his head sideways, but not looking at Nyx. " I'm Ivan." He said quietly. “Ivanovish Jurgenson."
