This is it! The time that I get to shift into my wolf. I am super stoked. I headed to the tree line to take my clothes off, so they would not get torn as I shifted. Taking off my T-shirt and sweatpants that I had put on earlier, I folded them and set them aside. Angelica walked up to me and asked if I was ready. I nodded my head.
“OK, Winter, let’s do this! Are you ready?” I asked her.
“Yes, I am. Just slide yourself into the back of your mind and I will do the rest,” she said.
I let myself slide into the back of my mind, letting Winter take over. Suddenly, I felt my bones cracking and morphing into a wolf. The pain was excruciating, and I started to scream. I heard Luna and Alpha telling me to relax, and let my wolf take over. I looked at my hands, watching the fur grow through my skin, transforming into paws. My eyes went wide, I could not believe that this was happening. It seemed like forever when I finally completed my transformation into Winter. I was down on all fours, looking at everyone. They were in shock, eyes and mouths wide open, not wanting to move. Finally, Bjorn walked up to me, placing his hand on my head.
“Tovi, you are amazing! Winter has been worth the wait!” he said.
“What does she look like?” I asked Luna through the mind link.
Luna walked up to me with awe on her face. “Sweetie, Winter is beautiful. She is all white and almost as big as Alpha, and she looks like she is shimmering in the moonlight. You have been blessed with her,” she said adorably.
“Can we go on a run?” I asked Alpha.
“Come on everyone, let’s go on a run,” he said, shifting into his black wolf, Cain. Everyone who could shifted into their wolves. Luna and her blonde wolf, Callie; Corbin and his black wolf, Dean; Rocky with his brown and red wolf, Jake; Angelica and her black wolf with a white patch over her left eye, Jasmine. Rocky kneeled so Bjorn could climb on and go with us.
We ran through the woods, with leaves under our paws. Our wolves were having fun, nipping at, and chasing after each other. After running for a couple of hours, we stopped at the lake on the north side of the pack land. I can finally see what Winter looks like. We walked to the water's edge and looked down. Winter is beautiful! How did I get so lucky?
“You were lucky with me because you are meant to do great things in your life, and I am here to help you,” she explained, referring to my thoughts. I was confused about what she said.
We went back to the packhouse, shifting as soon as we got to the tree line. The guys put some shorts on that were hidden in a couple of trees and we girls put our clothes back on. I was worn out from shifting and running through the woods with everyone. When we were running, I could sense that my hearing and scent were enhanced.
I went upstairs to my room, went in, and took a shower. I was dirty from running through the woods and rolling around in the dirt with everyone. I brushed my teeth, put my pajamas on, and crawled into bed. This was the best birthday ever!
The next morning, I woke up with a knock on the door. I got out of bed and answered the door. It was my mother.
“What do you want?” I asked her, annoyed. “I was still sleeping.”
“I figured that I would stop by and wish you a belated birthday,” she quietly said. “Also, Nana sent your present, so I brought it up to you,” handing me the present. I took it from her and opened it up. It was a hoodie of my favorite band! I love it! I will have to call Nana later.
“So, I hear that you got your wolf and shifted last night,” Mother said. “What is her name and what does she look like?”
“Well, maybe if you were not so stuck up Paul’s ass, you could have been at the shift last night,” I sneered. “Bjorn was there, and he is in awe of Winter.”
“I’m sorry that I wasn’t there last night,” Mother said sadly. “Paul wouldn’t let me come down to be there for your first shift.”
“f**k Paul,” Winter growled. “I cannot wait to shift and put him in his place once and for all.”
“I know,” I said to her. “I hate Paul and what he has done to me in my life. I never deserved the treatment that he gave me growing up.”
“I don’t know why you are staying with him,” I told my mother. “He has treated me like s**t since Bjorn and Siobhan were born like I was never good enough for him. You never stopped him either.”
Mother frowned and looked down at her hands. “I know that I have been a terrible mother to you and I never stood up for you. He was like that because you were never his pup. I know that you want to know about your birth father and I think it is time that you knew the truth.”
I stood there with my arms crossed, glaring at her. “I have asked you for the last ten years about him, and you would avoid my question. I deserve to know who he is.”
“Yes, I know that,” she said, looking me in the eyes. “Now is the time that I quit keeping it bottled up and keeping the truth from you. The only reason I didn’t tell you is because of Paul. Paul is my second chance mate. Your father was my fated mate.” I gasped and looked at her in surprise.
“What happened between you and my father?” I asked her.
She went and sat down on the couch, patting the seat next to her. I went and sat down next to her. She grabbed my hand and held it tight.
“This is hard for me,” she said sadly. “But it is time for you to know the truth.”
