CHAPTER SIX

1835 Words
ODETTE’s POV. As soon as he opens the door and my eyes come in contact with his, my breath hitch. I remember how his lips felt on mine hours ago, the feel of his body against mine and the way his ragged breath fanned my face. I spent four hours in this room but just one look at him in his robe and I feel my whole body heat up again. But I shouldn’t be thinking about him in this way, he has a mate and I do it, I did but that doesn’t change the fact that this is wrong in all ramifications. Clearing my throat, I step out of the room onto the hallway but he doesn’t move an inch, his huge frame towering above me. “How do you feel?” Malachi asks, his gaze on me. “Better” I lie. Of course, I don’t feel better. I want the f*****g ground to open up and swallow me whole but wait, has he always had these kinds of eyes? “Odette?” His voice jolts me out of my thoughts and I let out a sigh. “I guess I should leave now” I tell him. “Stay for dinner” he tells me. “No” I immediately refuse, “I don’t think that’s a good idea coupled with the fact that you have a mate who might show up and I.. “I am asking you to stay for dinner, Odette not talk about my mate” “Why?” I blurt, “why do you want me to stay for dinner? Is there an occasion?” “I don’t need to have an occasion to invite you for dinner, ma’am” Malachi responds, his gaze drinking in my whole sight, “I made dinner, your favorite actually. Don’t ask me how i know because I won’t be able to answer, just enjoy the meal” I bite down on my lips gently, I should be grabbing my bag and rushing off to the door, i shouldn’t even be giving this a second thought, i should already be by the door and…. “Is this because of the kiss?” I can’t help but ask him. Malachi chuckles lightly, throwing his head back, “You think this is about the kiss?” “I can understand if you feel sorry and…. “Do not complete those words” he halts me, “and I certainly do not feel sorry about kissing you. If for anything, I won’t hesitate to pin you against these walls and kiss the heck out of you, even the moon goddess will bear me witness, Odette” My face heats up, what exactly is he doing? I close my eyes trying to fill my mind with the thought of Zach but it’s not forthcoming, the only thing I can think of is Malachi and his lips. “This is wrong in all aspects, Malachi” “So why did you come back then?” He starts to walk time until my back hit the wall, “you found out I had a mate yesterday but you still showed up at my f*****g door looking all beautiful and sexy, you f*****g dressed up instead of your usual sweatpants. Why is that?” “I didn’t dress up for you, you told me you wouldn’t be home so….” My voice trails off. “Liar” he grits, “changing your clothes a few times, trying to find the perfect outfit.. “How the heck did you know that?” Malachi shrugs, “I just do… “I need to leave now” After that, I make to walk away but he grabs a hold of my hand and pulls me closer to himself. My back hit against his hard chest and I gasp. “Don’t run away, Odette” he whispers over my hair, “because I am quite aware of what’s going on in your head and the heat from your body. Your body wants me but it’s in a fight with your heart and your mind. You are thinking, what your dead mate will think seeing you f**k another man…. I immediately pull away from him and my hand collide with his face in a slap, “How dare you speak about him in that manner, Malachi. You do not have the right to take his name with your mouth” “I technically didn’t say his name” “To heck with you” Not waiting for his response, I angrily walk towards the door, maybe that was needed to wake me up from that stupid fantasy. As soon as I enter my car and turn on the ignition, I lift my head to see him standing right in front of my car and my forehead creases into a frown. “Move!!” I gesture to him but he doesn’t take a step away which makes me sigh, why the heck are all the men I have come across so stubborn? “Come on out” he beckons and I clench my jaw together before stomping out. “Out of my way or I am going to crash into you!!” “Let me see you try, D” his lips curl into a mocking smirk, “you didn’t give me an answer if you were going to stay for dinner” “I am leaving” “I am sorry” he finally says, “I shouldn’t have messed with you like that but I know you didn’t regret the kiss, just like me but my apologies for being an asshole. Have dinner with me and I will make it up to you” I bite down on my lips, his apology sounds sincere though. “Fine, just an hour” He has helped me for the past two days, this is the least I can do” “One hour” he flashes me a smile and stretches out his hand. “I am not taking your hand” I blurt, how the heck did I know that was what he was thinking? Well, I push that thought to the back of my head, of course everyone will know. Dinner is made up of chicken soup, rice and a whole lot of veggies which I certainly love. I don’t know how he found out that I am a vegetarian but he sure didn’t lie about knowing my favorite dishes. During dinner, Malachi keeps stealing glances at me, making me too self conscious and aware of his presence. Before we ate, he changed into a pair of joggers and a white Shirt which hugs his body perfectly, flexing off his well built muscles and chest. I can’t lie about the fact that he looks hot…so damn hot if you ask me but that is for me to know. “You know it’s bad manners to keep looking at someone like that?” I ask, dropping my cutlery. “I can’t help but stare” he answers, his voice rough and rugged, heat immediately creeps up on my face. “You should focus on your food, that will stop you from staring. “Says the girl with the beautiful silver colored hair and the jeans pants attending her father’s show a month ago” My jaw drops, did he attend that event? Was that where he saw me? I should have known. “So you are a stalker then?” “You are not particularly helping me with staying away” he leans forward and brushes something off the side of my lips and my heartbeat skyrockets. His hand feels so soft against my face and I instantly miss it the moment he pulls away. “You don’t have to show me how clumsy you can get with your meals, Odette” he rasps out, “I have all the time to find out” Oh Selene, maybe I shouldn’t have stayed for dinner. I didn’t say anything until we are done eating and I opt to do the dishes. At least, that’s the little I can do since he fed me dinner. “I will do the dishes” Malachi tells me, “just keep me company” “I can do the dishes” I roll my eyes at him. “If doing the dishes means you are going to have to put those beautiful nails in water, let me do it” My face flush, is he trying to patronize me right now? “Okay, I won’t insist then” I say after a while, “it’s not like I am a hundred percent good with dishes anyways. Let’s just say, I was raised spoilt” “That’s acceptable” Malachi shrugs, “it’s not like you have to do anything” He sets his gaze on me and I have a feeling that his words hold a double meaning but I decide not to ask further, I do not want to make the conversation more weird than it actually is. He starts doing the dishes while we talk about random things and I get to find out that he is the alpha of his pack. No wonder the air around him is so dominating and his presence is powerful. “So when is your mark and mate ceremony?” I ask after a few minutes of silence, “I am sure your mate is most excited about this, I heard the way your brother spoke about her, pretty possessive huh?” “Bryer…she is just Bryer” his answer is filled with nonchalance but I don’t say anything in regards to that aspect. I for one, I am in the house of a man I barely know and he even fed me dinner. We don’t talk again until he is done and I decide that’s my cue. “I think i should leave now, it’s getting really late” “Should I drive you home then?” How does he always look so composed no matter what? “No, how can you even do that?” “My driver will be behind us with my car… “No…” I shake my head, “let’s just end it here, Malachi” “I like the way you call my name” he says to me, a smirk on his lips, “it sounds like you want me” I almost choke on my spit, now he is making my body heat up again. “Relax, I am just joking” “Right” I give him an awkward smile, “I should probably go” I turn around and walk to the dining room again to grab my back. Just as I turn back, his huge frame is towering above me again and I almost lose my footing. He grabs a hold of my waist immediately and yanks me into his embrace, somehow I fit into his arms perfectly.
