CHAPTER NINETEEN

BRYER’s POV.

An hour ago.

When Malachi opens the door, a huge grin appears on my face as I rush into his embrace. I haven’t seen him in like forever but he doesn’t look excited to see me. Well, he has always been like this, I just wish he can even pretend to want me and not act this way all the time.

I have been away for like a week and he didn’t call or text me. I know he is not particularly happy about the fact that we became mates despite being friends but he has forgotten when I told him I was madly in love with him and I would do anything to make him mine.

Has he ever looked at himself in the mirror? I mean, he is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen with eyes that feel like they are bearing a hole into me. I mean, I would have been mad if he didn’t belong to me and I am going to do everything to keep it that way no matter what.

“What are you doing here, Bryer?” His voice cut into my reverie and I gently pull away from him, his gaze on me and he has an expressionless look on his face, “I told you about not wanting just anyone to come into my house”

“You keep saying that yet you don’t show up anytime I need you, Malachi. We have been mated for a year and you haven’t even done anything. I mean we should have been married by now but you have not even said a word”

“That’s because I don’t want you, Bryer” he blurts out, “how much more do you want me to spell it out for you now, I do not want you”

“You can not just wake up and try to shove me out of your life. We have been friends for what seems like ages, Malachi. We practically know everything about each other, we are best of friends. How could you not want me as your mate?”

“It’s different” he says, turning around and walking back into the house, “I do not see you that way and that’s why I am telling you, I don’t want you”

I throw my hands in desperation, I am everything he will ever want and more. How could he?”

I drop my bag on the couch and walk up to him, my body only a few inches away from him.

“You know how crazy I am about you, Malachi. Stop being so stubborn and let’s get married already”

“Stop being this way, Bryer”

“Is there someone else, Malachi?” My eyes travel over the room but there is no sign of anyone, “what is going on?”

“Yes, there is someone else” he blurts out, “and I am crazy about her”

“What?”

“You heard me right, I don’t want you”

“You bastard!!” I shriek in anger, “what more do you want me to do for you? Who the hell is that b***h, Malachi? Can she even compare to me? I am the only one fit to stand beside you as your mate and as your woman, don’t you get it?”

“One more word about her and you won’t like it, Bryer” he clenches his jaw together, “and I am f*****g serious”

“You are mine Malachi and nothing is ever going to stop that. I will assume that you are just having fun so I will just leave. I have already booked a hotel and I am ready to give you all the time you need to make things right between us. I will be expecting you back at Texas Malachi and I will be waiting for you to do the needful”

Pulling closer to him, I peck him gently on the lips before walking away.

What the heck does he mean by he has someone else? I waited for years to be able to get him and he thinks I will let him go? He is mine, between the heavens and the earth. Even the moon goddess knows that I am not letting anyone else get him.

As soon as I board the car again, my phone starts to ring and seeing the caller ID, I let out a sigh.

“Hello”

“Hey, princess” his voice filters through, “you haven’t been picking your calls”

“I was busy, Zach” I tell him, “I had to come to New York to take care of something”

“New york?”

“Yes, I came for something important”

“You didn’t tell me you were going there”

I roll my eyes lightly, “it’s for some work, Zach. I had to do it, it was something concerning our pack and I couldn’t just leave it. I will leave for Texas tomorrow”

“Well, good thing” I can hear the smile from his voice, “I also came to New York, why don’t we spend some time together?”

Well, it could be a good distraction for me because right now I do not want to think about Malachi. I mean is it so hard to fall in love with your best friend?

“Fine, send me your location”

With that I end the call and close my eyes, allowing the thoughts of my mate to fill my head.

Zach is standing outside the gate when the cab pulls up and his face breaks into a smile as soon as he sees me. I can tell he is head over heels for me, I mean he left his wife for me.

“Hey, princess” he pulls me into his embrace, “you look so stressed”

“Yeah, right? I didn’t know I was coming to New York or I would have come with you”

“It’s fine babe” I gently pull away from him as my attention return to the house in front of me, “is this the house you shared with your ex wife?”

“Hmmm” Zach nods.

I have known Zach for a good number of years but not longer than I knew Malachi though. One thing led to another and we kickstarted a relationship which was not a hundred percent for me. It was all fun for me until his mate manifested and I was very upset but I told him to choose her, she would come in handy one day. Three years ago, he showed up at the door wounded and the rest is history.

I am not going to delve deeper into my story with Zach because right now I want to forget everything that happened in Malachi tonight. We will talk when we are both in a good head space. He knows how much I love him and that’s why he keeps messing around with me.

“Come, I will give you a good body massage and you can relax”

“Yeah?” I snake my hand around Zach’s neck, “like the type you gave her when she was here?”

“I had to impress baby, you know my heart belongs to you and our little pup here” he touches my tummy lightly and I smile back at him.

Walking hand in hand, we both make our way back to the house.

As I sit in the bathtub with Zach massaging my back lightly, I can’t help imagine Malachi being in that position with his hands on my back gliding around my body.

I bite down on my lips lightly trying to stop the smile that is threatening to creep up on my face.

I can’t help but remember the first time we had s*x, that night that I have never been able to forget for ages. Back then we were just friends and we wanted to explore. I actually was the one who forced him that night with the cliche line of we were both adults and well, he was a beast in bed. Since then, I have wanted him time and again but he always keeps refusing, even after I manifested as his mate.

“Babe” Zach’s voice cut into my thoughts and I open my eyes.

“Hmm”

“I have decided to make our relationship known”

“We talked about this earlier right, you do not have to do anything for me”

“I have kept you hidden all this time but not anymore. We have gotten what we wanted and now there is no need to hide it. I am going to introduce you to my business associates as my wife, there is a party coming up next week. Be prepared”

I ball my hands up, is he trying to ruin my plans now?

“There is no need for that, Zach. Everyone at the pack house already knows me as your Luna, the world needn’t know”

“Trust me” he press a kiss on my bare back, “ the world needs to and I am not kidding about that. I am going to announce you as my wife and maybe it if pleases the alpha of your pack, I can finally meet him”

I let out a small laugh as I relax on the tub again. I have tried all these years to get Malachi, but I can't lose him now.

“Fine but we can announce our relationship after we have our baby, Zach. I do not want your ex wife or her family to come after me, I do not have the strength for that. Let’s keep it a secret until I put to bed”

“But baby..

“Please, Zach” I gently cut him off.

“Fine, but I have to meet with your alpha. During this time of your pregnancy, I want to keep you company”

“Of course, I will let you know when he gets back”

I close my eyes again and let my thoughts run wild. I don’t know if Zach just loves me too much or doesn’t care about the fact that none of us can read each other’s thoughts. Mates can do that and he had that bond with his ex wife but he has never shared it with me despite us being mated.

I stifle a laugh, mates? It was more like a joke because the only person I recognize as a mate is Malachi and it is going to remain that way.

His phone starts to ring from the room so Zach excuses him leaving me to my thoughts again.

Having two of the best alphas wrapped around my fingers is surely something but my heart aches for one, one who doesn't seem to notice me much. Where did our years of friendship go?

Well, we have to work out,come what may.

My phone which is beside me starts to ring and seeing the caller ID, i immediately answer the call as her voice filters through.

“Hello” my voice comes out in a whisper, “why have you called? You could have sent a text”

“The spell has been broken” the lady from the other end says and my whole body freezes in the pool of warm water.
