Chapter 3

Dimitri POV

I woke up at the crack of dawn, jumping out of bed and taking a long shower. I got dressed, brushed my hair and sat on the bed waiting for her to call. An hour later Cayden was also finishing up when my phone rang. Oh goddess it’s her

“Hello Dimitri speaking” I tried my best to sound casual

“H-hi Dimitri it’s Mila” her angelic voice came from the other side

“Oh hi Mila, how are you?” I asked sounding a bit breathless

“Well thanks. So you guys still want to go out today?” she asked hesitantly

“We sure do. Just tell us where and when” I said sounding way too excited

“I’ll text you the address. We’ll be waiting” she said and ended the call. I jumped off the bed and did a happy dance earning a laugh from Cayden

“So where we going?” he asked buttoning up his shirt. I was about to answer when her text came through with her address.

“Here, now let’s go!” I said my voice tone higher than normal. 15 minutes later we pulled up to the building in the rental car. Cayden rented a SUV for today, can’t take them out on horseback in the city now can we? She waved at us as I stepped out and opened the door for them. Her sister had her eyes but dark brown curly hair.

“Hey girls ready for some fun?” Cayden chimed from the driver side as they slid inside. I closed the door and got in immediately taking a deep breath filling my nose with her scent.

“Yeah, so this is Katie. Katie this is Cayden and Dimitri” she said pointing to each of us in turn. The little girl smiled shyly and gave us a small wave.

“So where we headed miss Mila?” Cayden asked starting the car when we were all buckled up

“Well to the pier of course” she said as we pulled away. 20 minutes later we were at the pier. It looked like a carnival, with rides and food stalls all over. Entertainers in costumes and on stilts walked around handing out treats and balloons to passing kids. Katie squealed when she saw the Ferris wheel.

“Can we ride on that? Please, please, please sis?” she pleaded with Mila

“I don’t know Katie, can’t we do the teacups?” she tried persuading her but Katie just crossed her little arms

“No we never ride on the Ferris wheel. You never wanna go” she huffs and I swear I saw fear cross Mila’s face. I gave Cayden a pleading look and he quickly diverted Katie’s attention to a food stall. I gently took Mila’s hand and gave it a squeeze, she didn’t pull back. Yay me! Oh goddess I sound like a teenager

“Are you alright?” I asked brushing a stray hair out of her face. She looked up and right then I wanted to do all kinds of unthinkable things to her. The vulnerability in her eyes melted my heart

“I-I’m afraid of heights. Katie doesn’t know” she said looking down. I placed my finger under her chin guiding it upward so she can look at me again. Goddess those eyes

“We’re all afraid of something. You don’t have to be ashamed miss Mila” I said lovingly she gave me a small smile

“A big guy like you afraid, of what?” she asked and I just smiled. Of you my love. Cayden walked back with candy floss in his hands. He handed both of us a bag and then took Katie’s hand

“Come on let’s go tame that Ferris wheel!” he said in his Alpha voice, it made Katie chuckle and they left. We walked up to a bench and took a seat. Sitting in silence for a while before Mila spoke

“So you’re a vampire huh?” she asked nonchalantly. I choked on air, yes on air. My head whipped toward her my eyes wide

“W-what?” I stuttered and she giggled. Oh goddess her laugh is intoxicating

“Your hair and skin is a bit pale” she said pointing to my hair and face

“I uhm… Well I… This is not what-“ she laughed out loud now. I probably looked like an i***t now. Get it together Dimitri!

“Relax, my best friend in school was a vampire. But she had yellowy eyes, I’ve never seen one with your eyes before. Are you special?” she asked looking deep into my eyes. Yeah I’m kinda royal

“Well yes about that, you see uncovented vampires have yellow eyes. I’m from a coveted clan” I said praying she won’t ask more questions. But whom I kidding? She’s a woman.

“Oh so which one?” she asked and I started to panic

“I-I can’t tell you” is said softly

“Why not? You like me right?” she said looking at me narrowing her eyes

“It’s not so simple miss Mila” I said diverting my eyes

“The clan or the fact that you like me?” she asked I glanced up at her, her face now serious

“I do like you, a lot actually. But where I come from is something else entirely. Please you must understand miss Mila, I want to tell you but it’s complicated” I said my eyes pleading with her to let it go.

“Well, if we can’t be honest then I don’t see this going any-“ I cut her off before she could reject me. So I did the only logical thing I could think of, I kissed her. The moment our lips met the sparks erupted all over my body. I felt her hand snake up my neck and into my hair. She fisted my hair in her hand and instead of pulling me closer she tugged my head back, hard.

“Okay, first don’t ever interrupt me again. Second as amazing as that was, I want the truth. Thirdly what the hell is it with the tingles?” she rambled and I sat there with wide eyes

“S-sorry I… it was a bad idea… I just didn’t want you to finish that sentence” I said softly

“Why? I just want the truth Dimitri” she said letting go of my hair and placing her hand on my chest. I was about to divert the question again when Cayden spoke up behind me

“Tell her brother” I snapped my head back in shock

“Are you sure? What if someone finds out?” I asked uncertainty lacing my voice. He just smiled and placed a hand on my shoulder

“Let’s go for a walk on the beach. We’ll tell you what we can” and in that moment I saw his father the king in him. Honest and fair. He knows how much this means to me, so he would jeopardize our safety for my love. He picked Katie up and I stood holding out my hand to Mila

“My lady” I said bowing she took my hand and we made our way to the beach. Once alone Cayden spoke up

“What we are about to tell you does not leave this conversation. It is of utmost importance that you keep this secret with your lives. It is imperative to your safety and ours that this information stays between us. Am I understood?” he said in a low authoritative voice. Again just like king Belmont, gone is the happy go lucky Cayden, now he’s the crown prince defending his people and his realm. Both the girls nodded eyes wide and answered in unison

“Yes we promise” they said and we sat down. I looked at Cayden waiting for him to speak but he gestured for me to go first

“My name is Dimitri Amell Dogaru, I am a vampire yes but I’m of noble blood. We are from the pure bloodline of vampires. I am also part of the King’s elites and will be serving under the new king when he takes over” I said and they sat there eyes wide

“Who’s the new king?” Katie asked in a soft voice and I looked to Cayden

“My name is Cayden Benningfield Reyes, crown prince of the Lycan realm. I’m not a vampire though” he said chuckling and they looked at him Katie speaking again

“Y-you’re a prince? And you’re a vampire?” she asked shock on her face looking at us in disbelief.

“Yes I’m a prince and yes he’s a vampire” Cayden said smiling at her. Her shocked face turned into amusement

“But you’re not a vampire?” she asked Cayden and he shook his head no

“But what are you then? And why did you call him brother?” she rambled in excitement Cayden chuckled

“I’m a Lycan, my dad is the king of the Lycan realm. But there aren’t many Lycan’s left. He’s not my brother by blood but he’s my best friend and we grew up together so he’s like my brother. His dad is the same to mine as he is to me” he answered truthfully. Finally Mila spoke up

“What is a Lycan?” she asked not looking away from me

“It’s like a werewolf but we’re bigger, stronger and faster than werewolves. That’s why we rule, so to speak” he said smiling

“So what now? You said you liked me” she asked me. I blushed a bit and glanced at Cay, he stood up and motioned for Katie to join him

“Let’s go get some hotdogs or something kiddo. We still have to ride the roller-coaster” he said scooping her up in his arms and she squealed with laughter. I turned my attention back to Mila

“I don’t just like you Mila, I love you” I said honestly. Her eyes went wide again

“B-but how? We met like three days ago” she stuttered out and I took both her hands in mine

“The sparks or tingles as you call them are a sign that we were meant to be together. We were literally created for each other by the Moon Goddess. So basically we’re soul mates” I said trying my best not to kiss her right now

“S-soul mates… so like forever to death do us part soul mates?” she asked flabbergasted

“Yes like that but vampires call it beloved. Lycans and werewolves have mates. Dragons and magic folk have betrothed's but it’s the same thing. So you can reject me as your beloved but it…” I trailed off. I don’t want to guilt her into this, she still has a choice

“I would break your heart” she said in a soft voice

“Quite literally yes.” I stated and she looked at me with a tinge of sadness

“Well I can’t let a handsome guy like you die now can I? What would the prince say?” she said jokingly and my face lit up like fireworks but I kept my composure

“You realise that this is for life Mila? I don’t want you to decide anything if you’re not sure. We can date first or if you-“ she placed her finger on my lips and smiled

“Sshhh. I have my own little secret, I have a small amount of creature in me too. I’m not sure what it is but I know when someone is lying and I can tell when people are good or bad. From the moment I saw you I knew you were different, you were honest and kind. Somehow I feel safe with you Dimitri, I mean you’re huge which helps, but I couldn’t stop thinking of you. Every time when you left it felt as if a piece of me was gone. Is it this beloved thing?” she asked and I couldn’t help it anymore. I scooped her up and placed her in my lap wrapping my arms around her

“The bond yes, the more time we spend together the stronger the bond will become. Oh and to answer your question you have some dragon genes then, because those are powers of dragons. But you are mostly human, so that might pose as a problem later on” I said frowning

“What do you mean?” she asked turning in my lap facing me

“I’m immortal. Yes I have weaknesses but unless I’m killed I will live forever” I said and her mouth just formed an “O” shape in understanding. She turned to look at the ocean then after a few minutes spoke

“Well let’s cross that bridge when we get there okay? So this bond can it be broken?” she asked playing with her fingers

“Yes only two ways to do that” I said and her head snapped toward me again gesturing for me to continue

“Well the one is rejection and the other is death” I said and she nodded slowly

“So not if someone cheated?” she asks and I feel the hidden meaning behind the question

“No, but once the mating is completed we won’t be able to cheat. Not that I will ever do that. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.” I said lovingly and she smiled shyly

“I hate cheating. So my dear vampire tell me about this mating” she stated with a mischievous glint in her eyes

“Well once I have your consent I’ll mark you and then well we uhm you know, we uh…” I swallowed hard trying to find a fitting word but she finished my sentence

“Have s*x” she said plainly but I shook my head no

“No my love, we will never ever just have s*x. I will make love to you the way you want to, I will devote my eternal life to making sure you’re happy, loved and very satisfied.” I lowered my voice to a husk and grinned at the last part and felt her legs clench a bit. She bit her bottom lip and I moved in and kissed her sweetly, she stiffened at first but then leaned into the kiss

“Do you promise?” she asked her voice a whisper

“I promise my love” I said and kissed her neck

“What about my family?” she asked suddenly and I smiled against her neck not breaking my kisses

“They can live with us if they want. You will never have to worry about anything as long as you’re with me” I whispered still kissing her neck

“But they will die, I will die eventually. You’ll be alone” she said worryingly.

“Well there are ways, I could turn you or Cayden could. They won’t be Lycans but they will be werewolves. But only if you want” I said quickly and she scrunched her nose

“I really don’t want to drink blood from humans” she said looking disgusted and remorseful, but I just chuckled

“We don’t drink blood anymore. Our clan doesn’t need blood, we haven’t for centuries. We have all the vampire abilities without the negative side effects.” I said smiling at her. She looked relieved

“Will I look like you then?” she asked and again I just chuckled

“No, only your eyes will change color if you are feeling an extreme emotion. It will become red that’s all. It’s really nothing like the movies depict. None of those creatures are portrayed correctly” I said and she let out a breath

“Well okay, when do we leave?” she asked and I was taken aback

“We need to finish our quest first. We need to find these missing people. So many families are affected by this. But once we’re done we can go. Goddess mom is going to love you” I said smiling but her face paled

“You’re mother?” she asked unsure of her own voice

“Yes my mother, you’ll love her don’t worry. Oh and the queen, she’s like my second mother, she’s going to adore you” I said happily. But she stayed silent

“My love what’s wrong?” I asked now concerned

“It’s just, I can’t believe this is happening to me. My boyfriend, you are my boyfriend right?” I nodded “is someone powerful and you have this huge fantasy world you live in ready to scoop me up and take me to your castle or whatever you live in, like I’m some Disney princess. I’m just a bit overwhelmed you know?” she said looking at her hands. I pulled her closer to me and she rested her head on my shoulder

“You are a princess, you’re my princess. And don’t overthink the other stuff. We’ll figure it out as we go. But now amor vitae meae we need to join the others before they die of sugar rush” I said standing up effortlessly with her in my arms. She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck

“Handsome and strong, well it seems I have won the jackpot” she whispered in my ear. My steps nearly faltered when her hot breath fanned over my ear and neck but I managed to keep walking. I don’t know how the king managed to hold out for so long with Aunt Isa, I want to mark her here and now. When we reached the pier Cayden and Katie just got off the roller-coaster and they both looked so happy.

“So I see we’ve reached a decision” Cayden said pointing at our intertwined hands. Mila blushed and now I wanted to make her mine. Keep it PG Dimitri.

“Yes we have Cay, so you ladies up for some games?” I asked and Katie jumped up and down clapping her hands. Cayden offered her his hand and we were off to the games room

“You’re going down prince Cayden” she said before darting inside

“Oh hell no, she didn’t!” he said following her and we chuckled

“He’s like a kid” Mila said chuckling and I turned to her

“One day you’ll know his story, but he’s always been like this. The king is very much the same” I said proudly

“How about you? You like kids?” she asked and I stopped

“I love kids, especially when it’s my own” I said and her face had gone bright red. Her strawberry blonde hair paling against her face.

“Dammit Dimitri, you can’t just say s**t like that after we’re only dating for like 20 minutes!” she scolded and I laughed. I pulled her into a hug and nuzzled her neck inhaling her scent

“I cannot lie to you rakkaani, I want you, I want a family with you, I want everything” I said kissing her neck and pulling back

“Yes well, not now at least. You have to wait a bit. I want to finish my studies first” she said looking determined

“What did you study?” I asked as we played the games

“I was busy with my law degree, I want to be a lawyer. I want to focus on family law, you know the ugly side of the law” she said her brows furrowed.

“Oh goddess this is perfect!” I said loudly and she looked at me as if I’ve grown another head

“Keep your voice down. Why is it perfect?” she asked and Cayden and Katie walked up

“What’s perfect?” he asked putting Katie down

“Mila is studying family law, she wants to finish her degree, so it’s perfect” I said smiling brightly. Cayden also smiled his million dollar smile and nodded in agreement

“Yes that is perfect. We have scholarships so you won’t have to worry about anything miss Mila” he said and she just nodded still looking confused

“Okay… thanks I guess. Hey sexy man, why is it perfect?” she punched my shoulder and I chuckled. Sexy man, I love it!

“When you meet the qu- I mean Aunt Isa, you’ll understand. It’s not my story to tell my love” I said kissing her knuckles.

“Okay, you guys are weird, in more ways than one but fine I’ll ask her when I see her. So we going to play games or what?” she asked and took Katie’s hand leading her to a basketball game.
