Behind the kitchen is the lavatory Ellery mentioned. It is, in fact, a crude bathroom that was added to the house many years before, specifically for the servants. There are several other bathrooms in the house that are updated to current standards and quite nicely decorated in the Victorian period. This one has never been renovated as far as I can figure and the ambience here comes from its shabbiness. Bead board planking lines the walls and covers the ceiling, although every flat surface is slightly warped from water leaks in the low shed roof above. It’s been painted numerous times and is now a dingy yellow color, stained gray in spots where water obviously has seeped in and soaked the boards.
