I didn’t realize how much I’d slouched, but obeying his order, I correct my error. I move into the desired position, hands behind my head, elbows wide, my body straight as an arrow upright, my eyes now focused straight in front of me gazing at the wall. I learned the posture at our first session. Ellery stands close, just off to my left. I dare not look at him as he stares at me. I did once and had my faced rudely slapped for that egregious mistake. “Not only do Jeremiah’s beatings have no effect, it would seem that very little we do here has any consequence on your sorry morals. You excel in flagrant disobedience.
